obit for Betty Ann (Sumlar) Hutcheson

Betty Ann (Sumlar) Hutcheson of Stone Mountain, passed away November 12, 2016, at the age of 77. Mrs. Hutcheson, affectionately known as "Nanny Betty," loved taking care of the children and grandchildren in her family. When not spending time with loved ones, she took pleasure in flower gardening, cooking, and listening to classic country music, especially Conway Twitty, Mrs. Hutcheson was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hutcheson; parents, Robert "Pete" Lee and Lillian (Byrd) Sumlar; and, sister, Dorothy Sumlar.

 

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Chris Dale, Freda Blake, Angela and Frank Boyd; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Shirley Hutcheson, Marty Hutcheson; twenty-four grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; brother, Ronny Sumlar; numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hutcheson will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2016, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with her family at the funeral home, Monday, November 14, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, and, Tuesday, November 15, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.

Death Notice

Mrs. Lora Jane Hewett of Covington, passed away November 10, 2016, at the age of 79.

Mrs. Hewett will transported to Dean-Lopez Funeral home in Key West, Florida.

Steve Deal

Steve Deal of Mansfield passed away November 7, 2016, at 60 years of age.  A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Steve loved traveling and had traveled all over the world.  Known as "Cowboy", he opened Cowboys' BBQ so people could come and play the music he loved.  Steve was the proud father of Bobo, his wonderful and loyal dog.  Equipped with a great sense of humor, he loved life to the fullest and never met a stranger.  Steve cherished his family and enjoyed every minute he spent with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Betty Deal.

 

Survivors include his wife Vickie Deal of Mansfield; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Julianne Knowles of Mufreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Karsyn and Presley Knowles; and nephew, Thomas Few.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 13, 2016, 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Newborn Opry House, Highway 142, in Newborn.

Burrell Edwin White

Burrell Edwin White of Covington, passed away November 5, 2016, at 68 years of age.  Mr. White is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Khristie and Tim Eller; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Dawn White, Eddie and Shea White, Richard and Christiana White; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Eleanor White.
No services are planned at this time.

Salvatore L. Garland, Jr.

Salvatore L. Garland, Jr., of Madison passed away November 7, 2016, at 56 years of age.  A 1978 graduate of Newton County High School, Mr. Garland proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years.  He retired from the automobile industry as a Finance Manager after more than 20 years.  Mr. Salvatore was a long-time parishioner at St. Augustine Catholic Church.  In addition to being a fan of the Braves and Elvis, he enjoyed hunting.  Preceding him in death were his parents, Salvatore Louis, Sr., and Jacqueline (Vallett) Garland; and brother, Michael Garland.

 

Mr. Garland is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Ashley Garland; grandchildren, Cameron Garland, Triston Garland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Craig Baxter, Becky and Jeff Hinson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Leah Garland, John and Mary Garland; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Mass for Mr. Garland will be held Thursday, November 10, 2016, 12:00 Noon, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 11524 Highway 278, Covington, with Rev. Fr. Roberto A. Orellana officiating.  Interment will follow in New Covington Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Wednesday, November 9, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Garland may be made to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX  75284-0692.
