Leigh Jay

Leigh Jay of Covington, passed away February 10, 2018, at 82 years of age. A strong Christian woman and a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Covington, where she had attended since she was two years old, Leigh sang in the choir, as well as working in the church nursery for 41 years.  She graduated from Georgia State College for Women, and retired from Southern Bell, after 30 years of service.  Bingo, bowling, and traveling were among her favorite pastimes.  She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  Leigh was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Lucille Skinner; and niece, Ricki Lynn.

 

Survivors include her devoted husband of 61 years, Thomas Jay; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Leesha Jay, Mike and Samantha Jay; grandchildren, Brent Jay, Justin Jay, Jamie LaMarque, Jessica Jay, Mackenzie Jay, Emma Jay, Caleb Jay; great-grandchildren, Kelby, Finn, Millie, Charlie; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Shirley Skinner; as well as nieces, Kathy Wooley and Hope Ricks.

 

A Funeral Service for Leigh will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018, 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Church, 1139 Usher Street, in Covington, with Dr. Cody McNutt and Rev. Lynn Strozier officiating.  Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park.  Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home Monday, February 12, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.

Obit - Dennis (Denny) Klebba

Dennis P. (Denny) Klebba of Rutledge, passed away February 9, 2018, at the age of 74. Mr. Klebba, a veteran of the United States Army, was a former resident of Detroit, Michigan, before moving to Covington in 1973. He was employed by the Seaboard Railroad, for many years, before he began driving a truck for several years. Mr. Klebba, loving father of two daughters, enjoyed antiquing, visiting flea markets, fishing and taking his daughters camping at Jackson Lake. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Helen (Hudson) Klebba; brothers, Ronald Klebba, Curtis Klebba, Todd Klebba; and his granddaughter, Taylor Marie Klebba.

 

Survivors include his beloved daughters, Kristi Klebba of Jersey, Kimberli Klebba of Savannah; granddaughter, Layna Thompson; sister, Janet; brother, Jerry Klebba; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Service for Mr. Klebba will be held at a later date.

Obit - Randy James

Randy James of Covington, died February 9, 2018, at the age of 56. Hardworking man, Randy was a "people person" who enjoyed serving his community and helping those in need. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time outdoors. Randy adored his family and especially cherished the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine James; and his brother, Ronnie Gene James.

 

Survivors include his beloved wife of 21 years, Nancy James; daughters and son-in-law, Ashley James, Kayla and Cameron Jones, Ansley James; sons, Justin James, Wes Moore; grandchildren, Shelby James, Jesse James, Rylan Moore, Ava Jones, Brady James, Jayden James, Malachi Jones; father, Bobby James; sister and brother-in-law, Tammy and David Mann; brother, Terry James; mother-in-law, Linda Watkins; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Randy will be held Sunday, February 11, 2018, 2 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. J.B. Leachman officiating and interment following in Hill Haven Memory Gardens, in Monroe. He will lie in state from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, February 10, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.

Updated Obit - Annie Crawford

Annie H. Crawford of Covington, passed away February 1, 2018, at 79 years of age. A native of Eufaula, AL, and a 1956 graduate of Eufaula High School, Mrs. Crawford attended Washington Street Methodist Church while living in her hometown. She relocated from St. Albans, VT, to Newton County in 1973. Shortly after moving, Mrs. Crawford joined St. Augustine Catholic Church, where she would remain a member for 44 years. She retired from Mobil Chemical Company, in Covington, after 20 plus years of dedicated service. Mrs. Crawford's hobbies centered around her love of the outdoors. She enjoyed deep-sea fishing, camping, motorcycles, hunting, and kayaking. Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William S. Crawford; and her parents, James Soloman and Mary Lois (Norton) Weathers.  

 

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Ann and Michael Kurtz of Covington, Shari Stevenson of Swanton, VT; son and daughter-in-law, William J. and Dia Crawford of Eufaula, AL; grandchildren, Samantha Joyner and her husband, Marc, Maura Hinton and her husband, Jacob, Caitlin Bockus; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Scott Galbraith, Maggie and jerry Ray; brother and sister-in-law, James and Dorothy Weathers; all of Eufaula, AL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Mass for Ms. Crawford will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018, 2 PM, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 11524 U.S. Highway 278, in Covington, with Father Roberto A. Orellana as priest-celebrant. Friends may visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Monday, February 12, from 6 – 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.

 

A Memorial Mass will also be held at Washington Street United Methodist Church, in Eufaula, at a later date.

Larry Walden

Larry Walden of Covington, passed away February 6, 2018, at 70 years of age.  A member of Stewart Community Church, Mr. Walden was a strong Christian man.  Because of his loving and caring demeanor and his passion for helping people, he never met a stranger and would give you the 'shirt off his back'.  One of his favorite hobbies was listening to old-time country music.  He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  Mr. Walden was preceded in death by his daughters, Kay Walden, Fay Walden; parents, John Thomas, Sr., and Ruth Elizabeth (Miller) Walden; and sister, Connie Henderson.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of eight years, Janet Walden; sons, Tim Walden and wife, Angie, Greg Walden and wife, Lisa, Steve Walden, Eric Walden; step-daughter, Denee Stapp and husband, Steve; step-sons, Robby Whitley and wife, Kim, Kevin Whitley, Chad Whitley; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Cathy Anderson and husband, Jeff; brothers, Johnny Walden and wife, Sarah, Tommy Walden and wife, Linda, Jerald Walden and wife, Gail. 

 

A Funeral Service for Mr. Walden will be held Friday, February 9, 2018, 2:00 PM, at Stewart Community Church, 13645 Highway 36, in Covington, with Rev. Jason Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, Covington.  Friends are invited to visit with the family at the church two hour prior to the service, from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 PM.  Flowers are accepted or contributions, in memory of Mr. Walden, may be made to Stewart Community Church Building Fund.
