Billy William Whidby

Billy William Whidby, of Covington, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, at 72 years of age. Mr. Whidby was known as a really good man and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Hammonds Whidby; and parents, Willis Raymond and Martha (Maloy) Whidby. Survivors include his daughter, Katie Ann Whidby; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service for Mr. Whidby will be held Sunday, May 15, 2022, 2:00 P.M. at Zion Baptist Cemetery, 7037 Highway 212, Covington, GA.

Patricia Ann Herbert

Patricia Ann Herbert, of Conyers, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the age of 68. Mrs. Herbert was a resident of Conyers for the last 50 years and she grew up in Atlanta where she attended Friendship Baptist Church. She retired from Rockdale County School System after a dedicated 27 years. Mrs. Herbert liked spending time with family and friends and enjoyed traveling wherever the road took her with her Aunt Dovie and sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Gene Herbert; parents, Bobby and Ann Sorrows; and sister, Gail Woodruff.

Survivors include her sons, Shelton Herbert (Karen), Skylor Herbert; daughter-in-law, Jermaine Jones; grandchildren, Kelsie Mathews, Kaylie Herbert, Bryson Herbert; great-grandson, Bennett Mathews; sisters, Wanda Lane (Albert Taylor), Cathy Sorrows; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Herbert will be held Thursday, May 12, 2022, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Shelton Herbert officiating and interment following in Eastview Cemetery, in Conyers. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, Wednesday, May 11, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Governor Brian Kemp's latest executive order has eliminated restrictions on large gatherings; however, CDC guidelines recommend social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing of masks while in public. Betty Pfeiffer Obituary

Betty Pfeiffer, of Newborn, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the age of 66. Mrs. Pfeiffer owned and operated the Pony Express Diner with her husband, Freddie. She was of servant heart and compassionately cared for over 200 children as a foster parent for 22 years. Mrs. Pfeiffer enjoyed spending time going to yard sales. In addition, she loved tending to her flower garden and admiring the roses. Mrs. Pfeiffer was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Pfeiffer; parents, Emma Jean and Thomas Wilson Lazenby; and brother, Tony Lazenby.

She is survived by her daughters, Kelly Jeffares (Rodney), Kimberly Holcombe, Tiffany Anderson (Michael); sons, Scott Pfeiffer, Chris Pfeiffer, David Pfeiffer; grandchildren, David, Cheyanne (Drew), Ryan, Bill, Chase, Tom, Pacy, Fred "Storm", Conner, Makalia, McKenzie; great-grandchildren, Mason, Memphis, Danny, Connor; sisters-in-law, Susan Huff (Harold), Emma Price, Leisa Howell (Keith); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Private Service for Mrs. Pfeiffer will be held at a later date.

Arthur Busbin Obituary

Arthur Busbin, of Locust Grove, passed away Friday, May 6, 2022, at the age of 79. A native of Chula, Georgia, Mr. Busbin was a proud patriot and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Once his time in the military ended, he carved out a career as a surveyor with Watts-Browning for 42 and a half years. Mr. Busbin was a lifelong member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Chula, Georgia. He was a dedicated father and loving husband. Mr. Busbin was preceded in death by his parents; Omeda and Wiley Johnson Busbin, Sr.; and 7 siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Busbin; daughter, Lynn Bannister (Gary); grandchildren, Amanda Bannister, Jack Bannister; brother, Wiley Busbin, Jr. (Betty); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service for Mr. Busbin will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2022, 11:30 A.M., at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Magnolia Drive, in Tifton.

Trina Pughsley Obituary

Trina Pughsley, of Oxford, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at the age of 37. Mrs. Pughsley was passionate about her work at Affinity for the Youth and took great joy in helping teens transition into adulthood. She loved to cook and bake, making delicious cakes and cookies all from scratch. In addition, Mrs. Pughsley was into clothing and fashion. She was a talented basketball player and was a member of the basketball team in college. Mrs. Pughsley enjoyed taking her children on adventures and was the best mom. She is preceded in death by her father, Wilbert Robertson.

She is survived by her husband, Jeff Pughsley; children, Roland Watts, Jr., Laliah Pughsley, Sydney Pughsley; mother, Vicki Jackson; sister, Charmia Robertson; and brother, Shawn Jackson.

David Bronson Ogburn Obituary

David Bronson Ogburn, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022, at the age of 67. Mr. Ogburn was a devout Christian and member of New Rocky Creek Baptist Church. David was a hero to his family. He loved his family dearly. David is known for his skills and loved building and repairing race cars. Mr. Ogburn would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. David was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Pearl, and Bill Ogburn; and his sister, Sally Hall.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Ogburn; daughter, Jenny Giles and her husband, Chris; sons, Sammy Ogburn and his wife, Anna, Billy Ogburn; grandchildren, Grace Ogburn, Abby Ogburn, Madelyn Giles, Maverick Giles; and sisters, Patty Wiley, Kathy Lowry.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Ogburn will be held Monday, May 9, 2022, 3:00 P.M., at New Rocky Creek Baptist Church, 190 Rocky Creek Road, in Mansfield, with Pastor Randy Reece officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the church two hours prior to his service from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M.

Noel Starr Smith

Noel Starr Smith, of Covington, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022, at the age of 84. Mr. Smith was a dedicated employee at Northfolk Southern Railway where he worked from age 17 until retirement. An incredible woodworker, he built his own cabin with his wife, June, and enjoyed doing most of the work himself. Mr. Smith was well-organized, an "efficiency expert", extremely logical, loved trivia and was a history buff – especially regarding the Civil War and World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Mogene Smith; sister, Nancy Smith Wiltsee; and brother, Max Faulkner Smith.

Survivors include his loving wife, June E. Clark; daughters, Emily Gail Smith, Valerie Alisa Smith; granddaughter, Fiona Hammersmith; and caregiver and faithful friend, Lauren Bell.
