Hobert T.L. Davenport, 90, of Covington, passed away April 3, 2013. Mr. Davenport was born in Blue Ridge, GA, to the late John and Lula (Ray) Davenport, and moved to Covington with his family in 1927. He drove a gas truck while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. One of the highlights, of his military career, was meeting General George Patton. Before going into service, Mr. Davenport met and married Margie Louise Davis, and together they were blessed with two sons, John and Jerry. After Margie passed away in 1975, he married Minnie Lou Hopkins, in 1976, who brought to this union a daughter, Michelle, and a son, Chris. He enjoyed camping, and loved to garden and spend time on his tractor. He was well-known for his collards. Mr. Davenport was a faithful member of Christ Cornerstone Church. He had a great laugh, a beautiful smile, and anyone that knew him, loved him. His children and grandchildren loved playing jokes on him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margie; his son, John Davenport; and his great-granddaughter, Amanda Davenport.
Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Minnie Davenport; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Kenneth Watts of Covington; sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry Davenport of Covington, Chris and Kathy Hopkins of Neptune Beach, FL; grandchildren, Craig Davenport, Donnie Davenport, Marshal Davenport, Deneen Plunkett, Norman "Phil" Phillips, Celeste Davenport, Lindsay Noel Davenport, Cameron Davenport, Landan Watts, Lauren Watts, Alex Hopkins, Christopher Hopkins, Shanda Fish, Acey Spiegel; great-grandchildren, Adam Davenport, Kayli Parks, TJ, Scott, and Payton Davenport, Drew Plunkett, Hunter and Hagen Phillips, Taylor Loyd, Zachary Ray, Jaylyn, and Sidney Fish; great-great-granddaughter, Kenli Parks; sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn Bruce, Rose and James Byrd, Shirley and Frank Harwood; brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Mary Jean Davenport, all of Covington; daughters-in-law, Laverne Davenport, Carolyn Davenport, both of Covington.
Funeral Services for Mr. Davenport will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Darrell Payne officiating, and interment following in Covington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, April 5, from 6:00-8:00 PM.
