REVISED Obit - Karen "Kiki" Pyle

Karen "Kiki" M. Pyle of Conyers, GA, passed away unexpectedly on November 21, 2012 at the age of 61.  Kiki will be remembered as an amazing wife, the best mother, greatest aunt, friendliest neighbor, spiritual cheerleader, and friend.

 

Surviving are her high school sweetheart of 44 years, Cal Pyle; daughter, Casey K. Pyle; son, Lindsey K. Pyle, all three now of Covington, GA, formerly of Hudson, NH, Asbury Park, NJ, and Neptune, NJ; parents, Bob and Betty Hodges of Neptune, NJ; brother, Richard Hodges of Neptune, NJ, formerly of Boston, MA; and her loving, large, extended family.

Obit - Joseph Repetske

Joseph "Rip" Repetske, 94, of Oxford, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012. He was co-owner of Cowan and Cowan Electric Co. until his retirement. Mr. Repetske was a long-time member of Mt Tabor United Methodist Church until its closing. He then found a new church home at the North Covington United Methodist Church. No matter where he attended church, his Russian Orthodox faith remained close to his heart. Mr. Repetske was born at 410 Shingiss St., in Mckees Rocks, PA, of the late John and Anna Repetske. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Alice Cowan Repetske, and three brothers and five sisters. He was the youngest of the nine children. Mr. Repetske proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII, from 1942-1945, in the European Theater. During his service, he received the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, American Campaign Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Three Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal.

 

Family members include his daughters, Donna Christie and husband, Jim of Tallahassee, FL, Glenda Eller and husband, Walter of Covington; son, Russell Repetske and wife, Janice of Athens; grandchildren, Mark and Joy Christie of Hollywood, FL, Vince and April McGlothin-Eller of Chicago, IL, Dave Eller of Covington, Ryan and Courtney Repetske, Allyson and Clint Winter, all of Athens; great-grandchildren, Aidan Christie, Julian and Zemery McGlothin-Eller, Ruby and Ty Winter; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

    

Funeral Services for Mr. Repetske will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012, 11:00 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Michael Bell and Rev. Russell Repetske officiating, and interment, with military honors, will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, November 30, from 4:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Repetske's wishes were that donations be made to North Covington United Methodist Church, 5138 Emory Street NW, Covington, GA 30014.

Obit - Geraldine Jolley

Geraldine Jolley of Covington, passed away November 27, 2012, at the age of 74, after a short battle with liver cancer. Mrs. Jolley had her own cleaning business, but also worked as a cashier at Wal-Mart and a deli attendant at Kmart. She loved the Lord, and enjoyed fellowshipping and getting to know people. She always wanted to help others, and she touched many lives. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Sean R. Scherkenbackh; and her parents, Jeff and Violet Rose (Ashworth) Shinault.

 

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Gayle F. Jolley; daughters and sons-in-law, Frankie and Donald Scherkenbackh of Newborn, Serena and Michael Rinkbleib of Temecula, CA; son, Gayle F. Jolley of Geneva, AL; grandchildren, Serena Scherkenbackh, Nathan Scherkenbackh, Albert Jolley, Lee Jolley, Britteny Falzon; great-grandchildren, Sean Scherkenbackh, Bryce Scherkenbackh, Abbey Smith, Kailyn Falzon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeffie Sue and Warren Hulet of Lansing, MI; Violet Rose and Bobbie Cunningham of Ash Flat, AR; brother and sister-in-law, J.W. and Charlotte Shinault of St. Louis, MO.

Obit - James Doucette

James Arthur Doucette of Covington, passed away November 25, 2012, at the age of 78. He graduated from technical school in the field of electrical construction and maintenance. Mr. Doucette joined the U.S. Navy, and proudly served his country as Electrician's Mate Second Class, before being honorably discharged after 4 years. He was recruited by Trans-World Airlines, for Kennedy Space Center; to supervise air conditioning crews as well as the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of space oriented environmental control systems. With the phasing-down of the space program, Mr. Doucette returned to private industry as a self-employed, licensed, service contractor. A year later, he served the State of Florida as Construction License Expediter, for Brevard County, as well as the building inspector for heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation for Brevard County. After four years, he again returned to private industry as a service contractor covering six southeastern states, and was recruited by RCA Service Company to work on U.S. Navy AUTEC Project at Andros Island, Bahamas, as an Environmental Control Technician. He left RCA to join Northrop/Iran Aircraft Industries Project as an Environmental Systems Technician. After serving eight months, he was promoted to Leadman, Mechanical Department and subsequently promoted to Foreman, Mechanical Department, where he completed two contracts with Northrop Worldwide Aircraft Services, Inc. Mr. Doucette was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to dance and often hosted dance exhibitions, with his dance partner, in Florida. He was very involved in the Apollo Space Program, and was an intricate part of the team which made the landing on the moon even possible. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence L. and Marguerite A. (King) Doucette.

 

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Steven King of California; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerald and Eden Doucette of Ft. Collins, CO, John and Mabel Doucette of Boston, MA, James A. and Diane Doucette of Covington; six grandsons and three granddaughters; sisters, Mildred A. Duratti, Ethel M. Gambalie, Barbara A. Johnson; brothers, Lawrence L. Doucette, Jr., Alfred R. Doucette, Douglas P. Doucette, all of Massachusetts; several nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Service for Mr. Doucette will be held Thursday, November 29, 2012, 2:00 PM, at The Church at Covington, 11975 Highway 142, in Oxford, with Dr. Ed Bez officiating.

Roscoe (Floyd) Ingram, Sr., of Covington, passed away November 26, 2012, at the age of 71. Mr. Ingram was a veteran of the United States Army, and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Eula (Ayers) Ingram.

REVISED OBIT - Susan Clark

Susan Clark, of Covington, GA, passed away November 21, 2012, at the age of 56.  She was born in LaGrange, GA, and graduated from LaGrange High School in 1974. Susan attended Georgia Southern College before transferring to LaGrange College where she graduated with a BA in Business Administration in 1981. She always worked one or two jobs to pay her way through school and often had to leave school for a semester or more to earn the funds necessary to continue. While working for the Law Firm of Duncan, Thomasson and Avery, PC, in LaGrange, she obtained her Paralegal degree and became interested in attending law school. Susan received several scholarships and awards and graduated from The Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University, in 1990.

 

Susan worked with the Law Firms of Morris, Hardwick & Schneider, PC, Sellers, Atkinson and Palatta, PC and Weisman, Nowack Curry & Wilco, PC. From 2006-2009, she opened The Clark Law Firm, PC in Covington. During this time, she developed professional contacts and worked closely with East Metro Board of Realtors, Women's Council of Realtors and Newton County Homebuilders Association. She was the first to volunteer to teach a class on new Real Estate Contract procedures to sign up for and donate to professional and community fundraising events. Susan loved her work as a Real Estate Attorney and the family of Real Estate Professionals she worked with, socialized with, and counseled through every need. Many came to refer to her as Susan "The Closer" Clark.

 

Susan loved her family and friends and was always there for support or to meet any need. She was lovingly referred to as Granny Sue and Aunt Susan to her granddaughter, Sierra and niece, Cayla. And to those closest to her she was Jenny Sue. This was a nickname given to her by a respected Real Estate Law Professor at Mercer University and it just seemed to stick.

 

Her sweet and gentle spirit will be forever treasured by those who survived her. They include her Life Partner, Lynn Springston of Covington; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Jeff Rubin of Kennett Square, PA, and Terri Clark of LaGrange, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Linda Messer of Austin, TX; sister-in-law, Janet Messer of Peachtree City, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Michelle Springston of Social Circle, GA; daughter, Anna Springston of Mabelton, GA; grandchildren, Gregory Harwood and Sierra Springston; nieces, Cayla Rubin, Carrie Weir, Jennifer Messer and Jerilyn  Messer; nephews, Justin Messer, Jeff Messer and Elliot Weir; great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Harwood; great-niece, Eliana Messer; great-nephews, Travis and Tyler Weir; and numerous extended family members. Obit - Clara C. Bell

Clara Cooper Bell of Covington, passed away November 26, 2012, at the age of 94. Mrs. Bell was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She was a faithful member of Canaan Baptist Church.  She loved birds, flowers, gardening, crocheting, and sewing. She served her Lord through missionary work in Kentucky, as well as working in several children's homes, and for many years she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Lee and Amy B. (Hallmark) Cooper; and her brothers, Gillie Cooper, Omer Cooper, Clarence Cooper, and Elmer Cooper.

 

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Robert C. Bell; daughters and sons-in-law, Roberta and Jeff Psyk of Macon, Elaine and Kirt Digby, Betty and Brian McIntyre, all of Covington; grandchildren, Amy Psyk, Hannah Psyk, Daniel Digby, Jason Digby, Josh McIntyre, Ben McIntyre; sisters, Loriean Bengs of Arkansas, Bonnie Bertch of Texas, Fannie Flaming of New Mexico; brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Rose Cooper of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.

William L. Plunkett of Porterdale, passed away November 25, 2012, at the age of 70. Mr. Plunkett retired as a security guard, from Golden State Foods, after 30 years of service. He last attended The Church at Covington, and enjoyed spending time with the youth in the churches he attended. He enjoyed camping, loved his family dearly, and cherished his time with his grandchildren. Obit - Cheryl Fuller East

Cheryl Fuller East, of Social Circle, passed away on November 24, 2012, at the age of 45.  Mrs. East received her BBA degree in marketing at Georgia College in Milledgeville.  However, she was a stay at home mom until her children were teenagers, then she went to work as a special education paraprofessional at Social Circle Primary School.  She was a loving mother and wife.  She enjoyed spending time at the lake and entertaining there.  She also enjoyed flower gardening and reading mystery novels.  She grew up in the Methodist Church. Mrs. East was preceded in death by her father, Luke C. Fuller, Sr.

 

Survivors include her husband James T. East, Jr. of Social Circle; sons, James T. East III of Milledgeville and Spencer Luke East also of Social Circle; mother, Doris Rice Fuller of Covington; brother and sister-in-law, Luke C. Fuller, Jr. and Swati M. Fuller of Duluth; and nieces, Asha and Maya Fuller.

Daniel Lee Hicks, of Covington, passed away on November 22, 2012, at the age of 40.  He was a graduate of Douglas County High School and attended the University of West Georgia.  Daniel's passion was food service, and he loved watching people enjoy the food he had prepared.  His nickname was "Chef Dino".  He enjoyed fishing and was an avid Georgia fan.  He also enjoyed spending time with children and was known as the peacekeeper in his family. 

 

Survivors include his fiancé, Jennifer York and two children Seaver and Robinson of Pinehurst, GA; father, Robert L. Hicks, Sr. of Covington; mother, Rebecca L. Hicks of Hudson, NC; sisters and brother-in-law, Kimberly H. and Ray Caudill, and Heather Hicks, all of Hudson, NC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert L. Susan Clark, of Covington, passed away November 21, 2012, at the age of 56.  She was an attorney for 22 years.  During her career she worked for Weissman Nowack  Curry & Wilco PC, Sellars Atkinson, and Clark Law Firm, here in Covington.  Susan loved and was very dedicated to her family and friends.  She was lovingly known as Granny Sue and Aunt Susan to granddaughter, Sierra and niece, Cayla. In the real estate community she was known as Susan "the closer" Clark.  She was always there to help in the community in any way she could.  She enjoyed reading and was an avid Georgia fan.  Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Myrlene Clark.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Denise Gee; daughters and son-in-law, Jade and Trey Roberson, Danielle Gee and her fiancé, Gary Harrelson; son, Sean Gee and his fiancé, Carissa Haynes; sisters, Gale Gee, Carol Palazzi; grandchildren, Trista, Elizabeth, and Hayden Roberson, Evan Gee; niece, Wendy Moore; nephew, Justin Palazzi; and numerous dear friends.

Luminaria Service @ Lawnwood Memorial Park

The Lighting of the Luminaria at Lawnwood Memorial Park will be held Saturday, December 1. 


This year, for safety reasons, there will be no handing out of luminaria after dark.  Instead, we will be handing out luminaria during the day on Saturday, December 1, between the hours of 12 Noon and 5 PM, in the area of the Mausoleum.  After picking up your candles, you may place them on the graves of your loved ones and spend as much time as you wish at graveside prior to 5 PM.  We do ask that you leave the cemetery by 5 PM.  If you would like to light your candles, please go ahead and do so.  Our staff will begin lighting all unlit luminaria at 5:30 PM. 

 

We invite you to come back after 6:00 PM to drive through the cemetery and admire the luminaria display from the warmth of your car. 

 

There will be NO outdoor lighting and NO traffic control in the cemetery during any of these hours.  For your safety and the safety of others, PLEASE DO NOT STOP OR PARK in the cemetery after 5:00 PM.

Obit - Marguerite Threadgill Allgood

Marguerite Threadgill Allgood of Oxford, passed away November 17, 2012, at the age of 91. Marguerite was born August 20, 1921, to Andrew Glen Threadgill and Imogene Dean Threadgill, in Macon, Georgia. She grew up in West End Atlanta, and attended Girls High School; and she later graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. Mrs. Allgood taught elementary school at E.L. Ficquett, in Covington, and was a member and past president of ADK teacher's sorority, and a member of the Newton County Retired Teachers Association. Marguerite and her husband, Bill, continued this commitment to education through their donations to Oxford College of Emory University. She belonged to Calvary United Methodist Church, in Atlanta, and Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, in Oxford. At the time of her death, she lived in Athens, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Isaac Allgood.

 

Survivors include her son, Bill, his wife, Pat, and their sons, William and Eric; her daughter, Diane Kirby and Diane's daughter, Bridget, and son, Will, his wife, Kristi and their sons, Isaac, Liam, and Turner; and her daughter, Marguerite Wall. She had a beloved extended family and many dear friends throughout her life and from around the world.

 

A Celebration of her life will be held Sunday, November 25, 2012, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Max Vincent officiating. Obit - Grady L. Montgomery


Grady L. Montgomery, of Covington, passed away November 16, 2012, at the age of 64.  He was a Sergeant in the United States Army and received a Bronze Star, Silver Star and numerous other medals for his service in Vietnam.  He worked as a builder in residential construction for 20 years.  He loved his family, grandchildren, and he never met a stranger.   He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.  Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by his parents, James Dorsey and Willie Ree (Mobley) Montgomery; and brothers, Lessie Eugene Montgomery and Jerry Lewis Montgomery.

 

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Montgomery of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law, Grant and Lisa Montgomery of Covington, and Bradley and Vanessa Montgomery of Porterdale; grandchildren, Shannon, Tyler, and Aria Montgomery; great-grandson, Bryson Montgomery, all of Covington; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Buster Moore of Mansfield, Helen and Earl Colter of Covington, Brenda Pruitt also of Covington, and Teresa Clark of Conyers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Jewel Montgomery, Charles and Judy Montgomery, all of Covington, and Nathan and Syble Montgomery of Newborn; and several nieces and nephews.

Obit - Frank "Redman" Sutton


Frank Sutton (Red Man), of Oxford, passed away November 15, 2012, at the age of 79.  He worked in the automotive industry for 24 years and was a member of the United Auto Worker's of America.  He loved his family and enjoyed singing in the choir, fishing and bowling.  Mr. Sutton was preceded in death by his sons, Richard Franklin and Gary Wayne Sutton; great-granddaughter, Morgan Homer; parents, Talmadge and Trudy Maude Sutton; and 3 brothers.
 
Survivors include his wife, Mary Sutton of Oxford; daughters, Carolyn Robinson of Lake City, FL, and Andrea Lindsey of Covington; sons, Mike Sutton of Stark, FL, John Boling, of Oxford, and Scott Boling of Covington; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Obit - Elmo Wayne Shrader

Elmo Wayne Shrader of Mansfield, passed away November 14, 2012, at the age of 70. He loved his family dearly, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his dogs, Spreckles and Scooter.  Mr. Shrader was a veteran of the United States Navy; and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, playing golf, and working in his workshop. In addition, he enjoyed studying his genealogy and gazing through his telescope he made himself. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer O. Shrader; and his sisters, Yvonne McCord and Elizabeth Tomayko.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Shrader of Mansfield; daughters and son-in-law, Susan and Carey Bryan, Lisa D. Powell, all of Covington; mother, Katherine Shrader of Decatur; brothers and sister-in-law, David Shrader of Rancho Cordova, CA, James and Phylliss Shrader of Conyers; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Charles Parker of Mansfield; grandchildren, Bethany Evans, Cameron Riley, Conner Bryan, Tommy Powell, Delaney Bryan; several nieces and nephews.

Obit - James Hicks Evans

James Hicks Evans, of Conroe, Texas, passed away on November 12, 2012.  Jim was born on January 16, 1960, to Guy and Rebecca Evans of Covington.  He graduated from George Walton Academy in 1978.  Jim served five years in the U.S. Navy.  Jim's childhood was spent involved in activities with First Baptist Church in Covington, and playing little league ball.  At the time of his death, he was living in Conroe, Texas, where he had been in declining health for the past few years.  Jim was preceded in death by his father, Guy V. Evans.

 

Jim is survived by his mother, Rebecca H. Evans of Covington, and his daughter, Chantal Evans of San Diego, California; his wife, Barbara, of Conroe, Texas, and her children, Kelly, Kim, and Donnie; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Cliff Blanchard of St. Cloud, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Vince and Cyndi Evans of Conyers; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for James will be held Friday, November 16, 2012, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Obit - Virginia "Ginger" Pogue

Virginia "Ginger" Pogue, of Covington, passed away November 10, 2012, at the age of 67.  She obtained a Master's Degree in Counseling from Liberty University and was the co-founder of Georgia Association of Play Therapy.  She was a 40 + year member of Covington Christian Church and enjoyed playing the violin, sewing, and quilting.  Mrs. Pogue was preceded in death by her parents, Byron Russell and Dorothy Anne (Barnd) Lee; and brothers, Gordon R. Lee and Richard R. Lee.

 

Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years, Theodore N. Pogue of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn M. and Michael Hubbard of Rutledge; sons and daughter-in-law, Donald E. Pogue of Christiansted, VI, and D. Alan and Kimberlee Pogue of Senoia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion and Gaylord Hardesty of Poway, CA, Patricia and David Frost of El Cajon, CA, and Susan and Charles Murray of Alpine, CA; brothers and sisters-in-law, George R. and Sherry Lee of Lakeside, CA, James R. and Pamela Lee of Lemon Grove, CA, and David R. Lee also of Lakeside, CA; grandchildren, Christopher and Sean Pogue, Lydia and Levi Hubbard, and Emily and Elijah Pogue; great-grandson, Aiden Pogue; mother-in-law, Pauline Pogue; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chris Howell, of Rutledge, passed away at his home on November 10, 2012, at the age of 31.  Chris was a die hard Tennessee football fan, and he loved cooking and hockey.  He had a lighthearted and fun personality.  As a child, Chris enjoyed playing baseball, football, golf, and he also enjoyed fishing with his grandparents in Tennessee.

 

Survivors include his parents, Michael and Connie Howell of Rutledge; sister, Christina Hope Howell of Conyers; brother, Corey Alan Howell also of Rutledge; girlfriend, Sheila Angel of Watkinsville; and her grandchildren who called him "Paw Paw Chris", Shelby, Sydney, Blaton, and Mikaela.

Obit - Frances Palmer Stone

Frances Palmer Stone, of Monroe, passed away November 10, 2012, at the age of 95.  Mrs. Stone was a resident of Walton County for 93 years.  She was employed at Bibb Manufacturing Company for 20 years.  She retired from Kuppenheimer Manufacturing Company also after 20 years of service.  She was a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.  Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her husband, George Robert Stone; 3 sons, Kennedy, Larry, and Phillip Stone; and her parents, John Wesley and Evie Lou (Lephard) Palmer.

 

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Garland and Joyce Stone of Oxford; daughters-in-law, Sandra Stone of Monroe and Dot Stone of Conyers; 14 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 31 great-great-grandchildren.

Obit - Hancock

Milton Bennett Hancock, Sr., of Covington, passed away November 9, 2012, at the age of 80. Bennett was born November 16, 1931 in Thomaston, Georgia.  He served 20 years in the United States Navy; five years on active duty, and his remaining time in the Navy Reserves.  He held a L.L.B. degree from Woodrow Wilson Law School.  He retired from SunTrust Bank after more than 35 years in banking.  Bennett loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Shepherd Bennett Hancock and Rosa Mae Black.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, of 58 years, Helen Hancock of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Tom Fraker of Peachtree City; son and daughter-in-law, Milton Hancock and Toni Babb of Oxford; and 3 grandchildren, Benn, Davis, and Addie Fraker, also of Peachtree City.

Mr. Ralph Abercrombie, Jr. passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Abbey Hospice, in Social Circle, following a brief illness.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ruth Abercrombie; and his only sister, Angie Abercrombie.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, of 62 years, Rendie "Randi" Fisher Abercrombie of Covington; and their son, Rick Abercrombie of Smyrna.

 

Mr. Abercrombie was born September 25, 1926.  He was drafted into the United States Army in 1944 where he faithfully served his country in World War II and later in the Korean War.  He was discharged from the Army in 1952 as a First Lieutenant.  He loved fishing, hunting, playing golf, and gardening.  He also enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with his family.  Mr. Abercrombie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and retired from Tucker Concrete Company after 23 years of service as a dispatcher. He was a member and former president of the AARP Covington Chapter #3542 and the Newton County Mental Health Association.  He represented Newton County for 3 years with GRN.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Abercrombie will be held Sunday, November 11, 2012, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with his nephew, Rev. Obit - Daryl Kiser

Daryl Kiser of Buckhead, GA, passed away November 7, 2012, at the age of 63. Daryl attended Lakepoint Community Church, in Eatonton, and loved traveling, woodwork, and spending time on the water. He was owner and operator of Plaza Computers, in Covington. Daryl was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Marie (Patterson) Kiser.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Jovona W. Kiser of Buckhead, GA; father and step-mother, Benjamin Franklin Kiser and Ramona Reynolds of Blacksburg, SC; brother, Mickey Kiser of Pelham, GA; several nieces and cousins; mother-in-law, Florence Wages Cannon of Oxford; sisters-in-law, Sharon Baches of Conyers, Carolyn Powell of Columbia, SC, Norma Tiner of Conyers; brother-in-law, Nathan Wages of Conyers.

Obit - Pierce Lovett Cline

Pierce Lovett Cline of Social Circle, passed away peacefully at his home, November 3, 2012, at the age of 85. He died just one day after celebrating his 54th wedding anniversary with his loving wife, Margie. Mr. Cline was born in White Plains, GA, to the late J.E. and Eunice (Lovett) Cline, and moved to Oxford when he was eleven years old. He attended Oxford College before transferring to the University of Georgia where he received an Agricultural Economics degree. While at UGA, he received his pilot's license, sang in the Men's Glee Club, played trumpet in the Red Coat Band, and served in the ROTC. Once he returned home, he eventually became Captain in the Covington Army Reserve. At the age of 60, he began hiking the Appalachian Trail, in sections, for ten years. Mr. Cline was a pillar of the community, and was largely responsible for Georgia Perimeter College – Newton Campus, and supported several service groups and local projects. He was recently awarded the R. Carl Chandler Award, a lifetime achievement award presented by Oxford College. Upon receiving his award, Mr. Cline stated, "I've had a long, healthy adventurous life. I am most grateful and have few regrets. Oxford College and education have been a magnificent part of my life." Rob Fowler, III, close friend and presenter of the award, called him the "consummate path finder and mentor to me. There were people who said, 'Why should we do this or that?' Mr. Cline would say, 'Why not?' He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the entire community.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Margie (Greene) Cline; children, Carol Cline and Kenneth Noteboom, Charles and Melinda Cline, Paul and Belinda Cline; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Lucy Cline Huie; several nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Pierce Cline will be held Sunday, November 11, 2012, 4:00 PM, at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, in Oxford, with Rev. Max Vincent officiating. The family will receive friends, in the Allen Memorial Chapel, following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oxford College of Emory University's Cline Music Scholarship Fund for the benefit of Allen Memorial Church, 100 Hamill Street, Oxford, GA 30054; or Georgia Perimeter College Scholarship Fund for Newton County Students, 239 Cedar Lane, Covington, GA 30014.
