He was at his best any time he was outdoors – be it on the open road riding his motorcycle, tearing up some dirt while "mudding", chilling on the lake and fishing, or spending time in the woods sharpening his hunting skills.

Those left to carry Kyle's memory in their hearts are his parents, Robert and Rhonda Bemis of Newborn; maternal grandparents, Ronald and Carolyn Nelms, all of Covington; paternal grandmother and husband, Mary and David Carmichael of Forsyth; paternal grandfather, Michael Bemis of Fostoria, OH; sisters, Anna L Bowley of Warner Robins, Ashley E. Herring of Covington, Carlyn Smith of Jackson; brothers, Keben Harrison of Tallahassee, FL, Joshua Harms of Newborn; in addition to  numerous nieces and nephews.

obit for Mr. Kelsey Vinvent Thomas McCloud

Kelsey Vinvent Thomas McCloud was called home to be with his Lord and Savior,

Monday, September 23, 2019. He was born January 1, 1937, in Miami, Florida, to the

late Johnny McCloud and Margaret Raymond. Kelsey was raised in Key West, Florida, and

later moved to Tampa, Florida, as a young man. He graduated from Middleton Senior High

School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Central

State University in 1960. He received his Master of Education from Antioch College in

1975.

Kelsey's life was centered around love, the love of his wife, a true love story for 62 years,

the love of his four daughters, as well as the love of being a big brother to his in-laws. His

enjoyment was seeing the joy he brought his family. While he had no sons, his daughters

agreed to honor him by having the grandchildren carry the McCloud name.

Kelsey was a teacher by profession; however, he saw himself as a compassionate

Educator, Mentor, and Father Figure to all. He taught a total of 37 years; 6 years in

Hillsborough School District in Florida; 27 years working in the School District of

Philadelphia - serving as a Science Teacher at John Bartram High School; and 4 years in

the Atlanta Public Schools at Harper Archer and Douglas High Schools. Kelsey enjoyed

enriching the lives of his students through his knowledge and wisdom, which also included

real world experiences. He was passionate about exposing and broadening his students'

world view by organizing yearly school trips to the cultural centers of New York City and

Washington, D.C. It was nothing for his students to come to his home to seek advice, with

some even having a Father's Day party in his honor. His assistance extended to their

parents, oftentimes advising them on completing college applications. Kelsey became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Delta XI Chapter at Central State University in 1956. He was true to their mission of providing leadership and service to others. Kelsey was active in his community by serving as the neighborhood Committee Man in Philadelphia, commonly known as a Block Captain. He was instrumental in organizing the neighborhood to become involved in the political process by ensuring people engaged in voting to affect change. He, alongside his wife, Barbara, became poll workers.

While Kelsey was an only child, he brought forth many. He lived a full life and is survived

by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara White McCloud; his four daughters, Eustacia V. McCloud-Carter (Jimmy), Deborah Y. McCloud-Holland (Gary), Meshell Y. McCloud,

Margaret L. McCloud-Arthur (Walter); seven grandchildren, Kelsena McCloud, Britney

McCloud-Laux (Shaun), Bjorn A. Thompson, Darnell McCloud (Melody), Courtney

McCloud, Rodney McCloud, Taylor McCloud-Holland; twelve great-grandchildren, Nailah

Woodfolk, Zoe Laux, Taniah Austin, Noah Laux, Zarie Thompson, Kaleah Hancock, Bjorn

A. Thompson Jr, Coolidge Holland, Chloe McCloud, Kyrie Howard, Ava Young, Xamora

Holland; as well as in-laws, Theotis White (Nancy), Terry White (Francine), and Brenda

White-Carter (Leroy).

Although, we will miss him deeply, we know he has always been the master of his fate.

A Funeral Service for Mr. McCloud will be held Friday, September 27, 2019, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Bishop Jim Earl Swilley officiating. Sue Rieke Updated Obituary

Sue Rieke of Covington, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at the age of 84. Mrs. Rieke was a faithful member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church, in Covington, for 50 years. She enjoyed cutting and styling hair and volunteered her time doing so across the state at many hospitals, nursing homes, hospice homes and facilities, and funeral homes for 60 years. Mrs. Rieke loved traveling to Tybee Island where she was known as "Run Around Sue" because she was a local who didn't live locally. Her home in the country was always a cherished summer getaway for her many nieces and nephews, where lifelong memories were created. She maintained the longest running and most highly competitive Easter Egg hunt around, as participants were trained and prepared weeks in advance. Her ability to bring family and community together to celebrate anything worth celebrating has been enjoyed by generations. In her later years, she enjoyed watching her hummingbirds and myriad species that found a home at her house like many of her family and friends. Her door was always open and accepting of visitors, but not so much for those soliciting. Her stories of thwarting those seeking anything other than the genuine visit and fellowship have entertained us for decades. More than anything in this world, she cherished the visits and visiting her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were larger than life in her eyes and for them, she was their "Gran-Sue!" She had her special relationship with each and every one of them. No matter if it was the "Wicked Rabbit", bags of quarters, hunting exploits, flowers from her yard or seashells from the beach, tokens of love and reminders of great adventure were exchanged each time and cherished by both! She always enjoyed having her three boys just sitting around her table with her laughing and telling story. Thankfully, last week she enjoyed that one more time. Let's also not forget what an accomplished entrepreneur she was, who provided and sustained herself until she retired in July of 2019! It was more about the social aspect for her and less about work. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing golf, boating and being at the beach and on the water. She was spontaneous and loved to take off in the middle of the night to see the sun rise on Tybee, go to the mountains and travel the waterways leading to the Gulf of Mexico. Her zest for life, fearless and adventurous spirit can be found in those she inspired. Anyone who knew her, knows that her love was genuine, deep, boundless and backed by heavenly virtue. Books could be written about her legacy of living life exactly the way she wanted! She was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Magdalene; brothers, Bill, Mac, Jim, Jake, Buddy, Dennis; sisters, Evelyn and Janice.

Survivors include her sons, Mike Haulk, Michael Rieke, Rob Rieke; grandchildren, Corey Rieke, Josh and Melissa Rieke, Jessica and Roman Smith, Jarred Haulk, Robert Rieke, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Rieke, Abigale Rieke, Cloie Smith, Aleia Smith, Avinn Smith, Piper Smith; sister, Shelby Abernathy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Rieke will be held Saturday, September 21, 2019, 11:00 A.M. at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Bill Hoosan officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home, Friday, September 20, from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M.
