Lorraine Brown

Lorraine Brown, 96, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, knowing that she would be in the presence of Jesus and reunited with her husband, J.S. and her beloved daughter, Nancy.

 

Lorraine was a sweet, kind, and gentle person who was devoted to her family. She would often express thankfulness for each day and for all God had given her. She supported her husband in his role as a pastor while taking care of her home and family. In addition to her commitment to her family, she also managed their rental properties for many years. She truly epitomized a Proverbs 31 woman. She was born in West Palm Beach, Florida and was a resident of Porterdale, GA and a member of Porterdale Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Rev. James S. Brown; daughter, Nancy C. Brown; parents, Fred and Leila Mercer; and four sisters.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Wheeler (Jerry); son, Michael Brown (Barbara); grandchildren, Sharon Gilbert, Lisa Ferrell, Shane Brown, Chad Brown, Kelly Massucco; 15 great-grandchildren; 34 great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Brown will be held Friday, October 29, 2021, 12 Noon, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor David Wheeler officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home two hours prior to her service from 10:00 A.M. – 12 Noon.

Jewell Weldon Bruce

Jewell Weldon Bruce, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at the age of 87. Mrs. Bruce was a Christian woman who loved the Lord. A hard worker, she provided for her family that she loved dearly. Mrs. Bruce enjoyed tending to her flower garden and will be remembered for her wonderful hugs that she gave. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Virlyn Bruce, Sr.; parents, Andrew Jackson and Nellie Maude Weldon; and three brothers.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Lorraine Glynn (Bud); sons, David Boynton (Sandra), Ricky Boynton (Rosanne); step-daughter, Donna Craven (John); 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

 

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Bruce will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021, 1:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Steven Chambers officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Crystal Kittle

Crystal Kittle, of Oxford, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the age of 39. Crystal was a huge Georgia Bulldog fan through and through. She enjoyed camping, shooting pool, shooting guns and collecting knives. But most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. Crystal was preceded in death by her grandmother, Becky Peterson; grandfather, Calvin Peterson; grandfather, Fred Kittle.

 

Survivors include her mother, Nanette Kittle; Father, Randal James; aunts, Gail Hawkins, Tammy Case, and Maylynn Kittle White; as well as several cousins.

 

A Graveside Service for Crystal will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021, 3:00 P.M., in Corinth Memorial Gardens, 1635 Highway 81, in Loganville, with Pastor Nolan Jackson officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family prior to her service from 12 Noon – 2:00 P.M., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington.

Greg Pittman Obituary

Greg Pittman, of Newborn, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021, at 52 years of age.  Raised in Conyers, Greg was employed at Griffith Foods for 28 years.  He enjoyed fishing and spending days on Lake Sinclair with his family.  Greg and Freda often entertained friends at their lake home, and he was known for the tasty homemade biscuits he prepared for breakfast.  Most notably, Greg will be remembered for his servant's heart, always taking care of his loved ones.  He cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, taking them for golf cart and boat rides.  Greg was a dependable gentleman and was loved by all who knew him.  He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Pittman, and brother, Tim Pittman.   

 

Survivors include his wife, Freda Cole Pittman; son, Marcus Pittman (Amber), mother, Barbara Ann Pittman; step-son, Stephen Cole (Amber); grandchildren, Lucy, Jaycee, Grier, Warren; sisters, Tracy Sims (Truitt), Lisa Doty (Ken); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Service for Mr. Pittman will be held at a later date.

Pauline "Polly" C. Sullivan

Pauline "Polly" C. Sullivan, of Covington, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the age of 92. Polly was a member of Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church. She was a devoted employee at Bibb Manufacturing Company retiring after 41 years and then worked for Marshall's Distribution Center until 1993. After retirement, she enjoyed vacationing/living in Florida six months out of the year with her husband, Bill. Polly liked to watch the Braves play and was a huge NASCAR fan, meeting several of the drivers when she lived near Daytona Beach. She was the baby sister of the family, world's greatest mom, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Polly was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Sullivan; parents, Homer Guy, Sr., and Thelma (Miller) Crowell; brothers, Homer Guy, Jr. and Billy "B.C" Crowell.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Diane Smith (Mike,) Rutledge, GA; son, Mark Sullivan (Liz) Covington, GA; grandchildren, Tim Smith (Lorri), Daniel Smith (Paige), Ashley Pope, Will Pope, Brian Dean (Tiffany), Wesley Sanders (Katie Cleveland); great-grandchildren, Carson Smith. Riley Smith, Blaine Smith, Trevor Smith, Dylan Dean, Baylee Dean, Isabella Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews and very close friends.

 

A Cryptside Service for Polly will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2021, 2:00 P.M., at the Memory Chapel Mausoleum in Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, Covington, with Rev. Myrtice Wilson Farrow

 Myrtice Wilson Farrow, of Covington, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021, at the age of 82. Mrs. Farrow attended services at Stewart Community Church and was a dedicated employee at Mobil Chemical Company for 30 years before retiring. She enjoyed going to the Music Barn when it was open, was an avid fan of the Braves, and liked watching NASCAR. Mrs. Farrow will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Robert Farrow; grandson, Billy Carol Farrow; and parents, Allen Davis and Missouri Vadie (Rutledge) Wilson; sister, Elizabeth Cowan, brothers, Allen D. Wilson, Jr., Ed Wilson and  Fred Wilson.

 

Survivors include her sons, Billy Vincent Farrow, Johnny C. Farrow (Adrian); daughter-in-law, Pam Farrow; grandchildren, Alex Farrow, Ryan Farrow, Blake Farrow; brother, Frank Wilson; as well as nieces and nephews, Bonnie Gail Cowan, Carlton Wilson, Peggy Curtis, Ronnie Ronnie Cowan, Donnie Cowan, Tom Owens.

Ann C. Mathis

Ann C. Mathis, of Oxford, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021, at the age of 76. Mrs. Mathis was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Covington where she was very involved. She sang in the Sanctuary Choir, assisted with providing and serving food for the Widow to Widow luncheons, and was a member of the Mission Seekers Sunday School class. With her kind and loving spirit, Mrs. Mathis served on the bereavement committee. Before retirement, she taught first grade for 15 years at East Newton Elementary School, and in her spare time was an avid runner for exercise. Mrs. Mathis was an immaculate housekeeper, and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond G. Sr., and Christina (Aycock) Collison.

 

Survivors include her loving husband of 43 years, Jerome Mathis; sons, Jeff Hipps, Greg Hipps; granddaughter, Isabella Hipps; sister, Teresa Womack; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn J. Schoudt Obituary

Carolyn J. Schoudt, of Lawrenceville, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the age of 87. Ms. Schoudt was born and raised in Philippi, West Virginia. In 1966, she moved to the Atlanta area and was a resident of Tucker from 1978 – 2016. Ms. Schoudt retired from Bell South after 44 years of dedicated service. She attended People's Baptist Church, in Tucker, for many years. Ms. Schoudt loved snow skiing, water skiing, and watching the Braves play. She cherished the time she got to take care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ms. Schoudt was preceded in death by her companion, Clyde Harrelson; mother, Madeline Tenney; father, Sidney Duvall; and sisters, Neva Jean Bosworth, Phyllis Hardin.

 

Ms. Schoudt is survived by her son, Greg Schoudt (Pat); grandchildren, Nicholas Schoudt (Bridget), Garrett Schoudt (Stephanie); and great-grandchildren, Nolan, Noelle, Cooper.

 

The family will hold a reception at a later date.

Anna Marie Dee

Anna Marie Dee, 53, of Loganville, GA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 11, 2021.

 

Anna was born on January 3, 1968, to James and Linda Stewart of Oxford, GA. She was an outstanding mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She loved serving others in any way she could. Anna was very humble about what she had, and always did what she needed to do to take care of her family at all costs. She was a dedicated Christian woman who loved the Lord. She read her Bible daily and would tell of the goodness and faithfulness of her God. Anna was a woman of strong faith, standing firm on every promise God gave her. She kept her faith through the trials, pain, and sickness. She was a warrior and never backed down from anything that was thrown at her. She fought until she couldn't fight anymore, and that's when the Lord took her by the hand from this world to eternity. With great joy He told her "welcome home my good and faithful servant." She will be extremely missed. It's hard to say goodbye, but our loss is heaven's gain.

 

Anna is survived by her children, Austin Dee (Tiffany), and Nick Dee; grandchildren, Aubry and Braxton Dee; parents, James and Linda Stewart; siblings, Rodney Stewart (Connie), Huie Stewart (Angela), Tony Stewart (Vivien), Daniel Stewart (Aleatha); and many nieces, nephews, and even more people whose lives she touched.

 

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Dee will be held Friday, October 15, 2021, 1:00 P.M., at Sharon Baptist Church, 5690 S Sharon Church Road, in Loganville, with Pastor Adam Herrington and Pastor Michael Patterson officiating, with interment following in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, Thursday, October 14, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Helen Louise Harwell

Helen Louise Harwell, of Oxford, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the age of 86. Mrs. Harwell was a life-long resident of Newton County where she attended Highpoint Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. She worked at Cohen's Department store, on the Covington square, as a bookkeeper for several years before working for Snapping Shoals. In Mrs. Harwell's spare time, she enjoyed refinishing furniture with her husband, working in her yard, and annual trips with her mother to the North Georgia Mountains. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mary T. Stokes; sister, Sandra Carter; brother, Jimmy Stokes; daughter-in-law, Susan Harwell; son-in-law, Paul K. Ryan.

 

Survivors include her loving husband of 70 years, Jimmy E. "Blue" Harwell; daughter, Genia Harwell-Ryan, of Grayson; Sons, Terry Harwell, of Covington, Tommy "T.W." Harwell, of Milledgeville.

Julian Sevice Vaughn Obituary

Julian Sevice Vaughn, of Social Circle, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021, at the age of 73. Mr. Vaughn was a hardworking man and retired from Georgia Power. He was always working around the house, tinkering in his barn, and keeping his yard tidy. Mr. Vaughn loved taking his boat out on the lake. He cherished the time he spent with his wife and whole family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilda and Carroll Sevice Vaughn; and brother, Glenn Vaughn.

 

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty Vaughn; daughter, Allison Jordan (Mart); son, Jason Vaughn; grandchildren, Kalin Jordan, Emaly Bradford (Matthew); sisters, Linda Smith (Larry); and Alicia Allen; and brothers, George Vaughn, Brian Vaughn.

Carl E. Durham Obituary

Carl E. Durham, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the age of 76. Mr. Durham was a hardworking man that held various jobs between manufacturing, sales, and assembly. He was a good carpenter and was always building and tinkering things. Mr. Durham was a huge car fanatic ever since he was a young boy and loved going to car shows. Additionally, he enjoyed going fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Durham; and father, Edwin Durham.

Charles Martin

Charles Martin, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the age of 61. Charlie, affectionately knows as "Pa" by his grandchildren, was the owner and operator of Scoreboard Service, Inc. He and his wife, Donna, were married on the pitcher's mound at an Atlanta Braves game and every year for their anniversary, he made sure they done something special. Charlie was a jack-of-all trades and could work on anything. He said he traded his motorcycle in for his pontoon so he could have all his family and friends enjoy it with him. Charlie was adventurous and enjoyed riding various things like his bikes, motorcycles, and four-wheelers. In addition, he had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Zoe, Sophie, Mr. T., and Little One. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Woodie and Jewell Lankford Martin; mother-in-law, Beverly Nelson.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Donna Martin; daughter, Brandi Norris (Brian Johnson); son, Chad Martin (Jennie); grandchildren, Collin, Griffin, Masin, Korbin, Addyson; brother, Roger Martin (Mary); father-in-law, Larry Nelson (Diane); sister-in-law, Dianna Galloway (Richard); brothers-in-law, Cris Nelson (Debbie), Barry Nelson (Karla); as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ben Truelove Obituary

Ben Truelove, of Covington, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the age of 60. Mr. Truelove was a man known for his integrity and honor. He was always a joy to be around and very serious at times. Mr. Truelove adored his son and always put him first. He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Sue and Huey Alvin Truelove.
