James Carroll Justice Obituary

James Carroll Justice, of Rutledge, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021, at the age of 81. Mr. Justice had a heart for God and attended First Baptist Church of Social Circle. As a man that loved the Lord, he was not afraid of witnessing and sharing his faith with others and praying for them. Additionally, Mr. Justice was an ordained minister and married a lot of couples throughout the years. He enjoyed work and considered it his hobby. Mr. Justice began employment with Xerox Corporation in January of 1965 and remained with them for 35 years. Following that retirement, he enjoyed many years of work for ProComm Telecommunications. He was proud to be employed by Essential Facility Services and he worked up until his death. Mr. Justice cared for others and helped people find work when they needed it. He worked hard and made friends everywhere. Mr. Justice was a farm boy at heart, and never strayed away from that. He maintained a vegetable garden and was even a beekeeper for a few years. Mr. Justice loved to listen to music, especially gospel music. He also liked to sing, even when the music was not playing. Mr. Justice spent time watching and reading westerns and enjoyed seeing Georgia Tech and the Atlanta Falcons play football. He was a body builder in his youth and kept his strength as he got older. Mr. Justice was a true patriot and was passionate about America. He was a man of true humility, kind gentleman, and smiled a lot. Mr. Justice loved his wife's cornbread and biscuits. He cherished his family dearly, especially his grandkids and great grandkids. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Jean Justice; parents, Grady and Christine Justice; and brothers, Manson Justice, Alden Justice.

 

Survivors include his sons, Kenneth Justice (Teri), Mark Justice (Melinda); daughter, Selena Justice; grandchildren, Garrett Justice, Megan Justice, Aaron Liggett, Joshua Liggett, Hunter Lawson, Matthew Lawson (Kayla); great-grandchildren, Mason Lawson, Noah Lawson, Autumn Lawson; sister, Ruth Martin; and brothers, Ray Justice (Judith), William Justice.

 

A Funeral Service for Mr. Justice will be held Sunday, December 5, 2021, 1:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Mike Hardy officiating and interment following in Sherwood Memorial Park Garden of Christ Mausoleum, 6841 Tara Boulevard, in Jonesboro. Friends are invited to visit with the family two hours prior to his service from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Flowers are accepted, or contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Social Circle food pantry, accessible through the QR code provided.

Jeffrey M. Hobbins

Jeffrey M. Hobbins, of Social Circle, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021, at the age of 78. Mr. Hobbins grew up in Decatur, GA and had resided in Social Circle since 2015 where he was an active member of Social Circle Baptist and the Action Sunday school class. He worked for Browning Arms as a sales representative for over 25 years and was co-owner of Piedmont Outdoors for 15 years. Mr. Hobbins enjoyed the outdoors and loved sharing his passion for it with anyone who was interested. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Mr. Hobbins was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard George and Arlene Hope Hobbins; and sister, Pamela Hobbins.

 

Survivors include his longtime companion, Gail Temple; daughter, Janet Dawn Hobbins; son, Brian Hobbins (Mendy); grandchild, Morgan Masczak (Joshua); great-granddaughter, Amelia Hobbins.

 

A Memorial Service for Mr. Hobbins will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021, 1:00 P.M., at Social Circle Baptist Church, 195 N Cherokee Road, with Pastor Mike Hardy. Thomas C. McGuire, Jr. (Tom)

Thomas C. McGuire, Jr. (Tom) of Covington, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021, at the age of 79. Mr. McGuire was a native of Atlanta and attended Murphy High School, graduating class of 1960. He was a proud member of IBEW 613 where he served as president and business manager. Mr. McGuire was a good Christian man that loved the Lord and his family. He was a member of Church 213. He always loved spending time with his loving wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mr. McGuire was a huge sports fan who loved the University of Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and the Hawks. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. Mr. McGuire was preceded in death by his parents, Carden and Sara Nell McGuire; sister, Phyllis Holliday; brother, Doug McGuire

Larry Wade Kirkman Obituary

Larry Wade Kirkman, of Covington, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021, at the age of 78. Mr. Kirkman was a member of Common Ground Church. He loved to go out with friends on the boat and go out to eat. Mr. Kirkman was very active, playing tennis and running track. Additionally, he played and watched football. In general, Mr. Kirkman was a big sports fan. He cherished his family dearly. Mr. Kirkman was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Ruth Kirkman; and sister, Bonnie Kirkman.

 

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Brenda Kirkman; children, JoAnn Compton (Ronnie), Ginger Woods, Chris Bunn, Greg Bunn (Jamie), Kelley Johnston-Towe, Jennifer Kirkman; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and some extended family in North Carolina.

 

A Memorial Service for Mr. Kirkman will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2021,3:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Ron Compton officiating. Guy M. Anglin Obituary

Guy M. Anglin, of Oxford, passed away Friday, November 19, 2021, at the age of 85.

Mr. Anglin retired from General Motors at the Lakewood Plant location. He was a native of Atlanta and a resident of Oxford for over 25 years. Mr. Anglin loved cars and had a special interest in restoring old cars, especially Chevrolets. He took pride in granddaughters and attended every softball game they had. Mr. Anglin cherished his family dearly. He was preceded in death by his son, Brad Anglin; parents, David and Ruth Anglin; and sister, Sylvia Joanne Anglin.

 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ellen Anglin; daughter, Sylvia "Cricket" Anglin; son, Brian Anglin; grandchildren, Holly Springer, Carrie Springer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A Private Interment Service was held at Lawnwood Memorial Park.

Benny Malcom Obituary

Benny Malcom, of Covington, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021, at the age of 84. Mr. Malcom proudly served in the United States Navy for four years. When his service ended, he began working at Bibb Manufacturing Company and worked for L & N Railroad in Atlanta for 5 years. After being injured while working for L & N, Mr. Malcom became a farmer. He enjoyed spending time outdoors as an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dolores Malcom; parents, Demus and Josie Peters Malcom; and sister, Maryann Price.

 

He is survived by his daughters, Cassandra Henderson (David), Belinda McDonald (Kyle); sons, William B. Malcom, Jr. (Barbara), Mark A. Malcom (Debbie); grandchildren, Phillip Henderson, Matthew Henderson, Maria Hargrove, Alisha Stowe, Jennifer Allen, Jessica Gassmann, Ben Malcom, Rachel McElhaney, Daniel Malcom, Lindsay Dial, Katie Harris; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Pippin (Dilmus), Jane McCart; brother, Gerald Malcom (Catherine); and several nieces and nephews.

Billie Eloise Helms Spigner

Billie Eloise Helms Spigner, of Oxford, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2021, at the age of 79. Mrs. Spigner was born and raised in Arlington, Virginia. She was a current member of Oxford Baptist and a past member of Prospect United Methodist Church where she and her husband were very active both teaching Sunday school class for many years. In addition, she was a member of the Covington Conyers Choral Guild for many years as well. After obtaining her Batchelor's and Master's degree from the University of South Carolina, she started her teaching career teaching English, History and Mythology. Teaching in many different schools, Mrs. Spigner worked in the Bay County school system in Florida, Calhoun and Lexington Counties in South Carolina, and North Cobb High School and Wheeler High School in Georgia. She was an avid reader and enjoyed learning new things, taking trips to the beach and looking for seashells, especially in Sanibel Island, Charleston Isle of Palms and Myrtle Beach. Mrs. Spigner also earned her Black Belt in Karate and competed with the American Taekwondo Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry and Eloise Quinn Helms.

 

Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Johnny Spigner; daughter, Melanie Brooke; son, Mark Kevin Spigner; grandchildren, Gavin Joseph Petrunich, Madison Ann Spigner, Jordan Eloise Spigner; and brother, Doug Helms.

 

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Spigner will be held Thursday, November 18, 2021, 2:00 P.M., at Oxford Baptist Church, 305 Emory Street NW, in Oxford with Rev. Kevin W. Jake McClure

Jake McClure, of Rutledge, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021, at the age of 50. Jake was a loyal family man always putting his family first and loved his church family as well. He was a friend to many and if you had him as a friend, you had a friend for life. Jake enjoyed a lot of things in life, he liked working out, racing motorcycles, buying and collecting watches, his recliner and remote, slippers, and the color pink. Those who knew him knew he was a talker and loved to aggravate and prank people, and was opinionated with wisdom. Jake enjoyed eating at his favorite places, Mamies Kitchen and Waffle House, and being on the lake with his boat. He enjoyed supervising and building many homes for families. Jake loved life and enjoyed it to its fullest but above all, he loved his family, his children, and his dog, Zoey. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe McClure; grandparents, Lee and Lamar Shirley, J.C. and Sarah Martin McClure.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Kasey McClure, daughter, Sarah McClure; son, Jacob McClure; mother, Sandra McClure; brothers, Marty McClure (Kelly), Andy McClure; nieces and nephews, Brandon and Brooke McClure, Sandi and Michael Johnson, Shelby and Chase Finley, Michael and Brooke Estes; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bobby L. Watts

Bobby L. Watts, of Covington, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the age of 78. A lifelong resident of Newton County, Mr. Watts attended Faith Tabernacle and retired from Coastal State Life Insurance where he was the district manager. After retirement, he then went on to have a career with the State of Georgia in the Department of Administrative Services. Having traveled to 49 states, Canada and Mexico, Mr. Watts enjoyed traveling and camping when he could. He loved playing and singing old hymns on the piano and guitar. In addition, Mr. Watts enjoyed trading cars and keeping them in mint condition and riding motorcycles. But his greatest focus on life was raising his two sons to be successful and responsible in their lives.

Mr. Watts was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years, Shelby Jean Watts; parents, Leslie and CB Watts; and brother, James Watts.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Becky Watts; sons, Barry Watts (Rosene), Bruce Watts (Mandy); grandchildren, Lisa Meltz (Nick), Candace Beck (Chad), Brecken Watts, Braxton Watts; great-grandchildren, Maddox Meltz, Adelaide Beck; sister, Ruth Robinson (Allen); sister-in-law, Lois Watts; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Atris Lee Printup Obituary

Atris Lee Printup, of Covington, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at the age of 91.

Mrs. Printup was always found collecting recipes, watching cooking shows, and loved to cook. Additionally, she enjoyed watching the Braves play baseball and fishing. Mrs. Printup was a very loving and humble woman. She lived for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Printup was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lee Printup; daughter, Nina Printup; and parents, Carey and Vanilla Floyd.

 

She is survived by her children, Della Thompson, Terry Printup, and Stella Robinson.

Margaret "Peggy" Jordan Silvia Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Jordan Silvia, of Covington, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the age of 83. Ms. Silvia was a devout Christian and a member of Covington First United Methodist Church. She was employed by Lithonia Lighting as a claims specialist and served in that role since 1980. Ms. Silvia enjoyed spending time gardening, cooking, reading, and watching home improvement shows. Additionally, she loved to craft and sew. Ms. Silvia cherished her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Emaly Jordan; and brothers, John Jordan, Hutch Jordan.

 

She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Burgoyne, Ashley Hill (John Paul); grandchildren; Nikki Davis, Madeline Hill; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Lexi, Kylee on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronnie R. Brock

Ronnie R. Brock, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at the age of 64. Mr. Brock was a simple man and a wonderful provider for his family. He loved watching the Braves play and enjoyed hunting. Mr. Brock loved his family dearly and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Minnie Bell (Dixie) Brock; brother, Jimmy Brock.

Alva J. Spillers Obituary

Alva J. Spillers, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at the age of 76. Mr. Spillers was a lifelong member at First Baptist Church of Covington where he was very active and served as a deacon many times. He held an active role in the Helping Hands Ministry and went on many different mission trips with the church. Mr. Spillers was the owner of Spillers Insurance Agency and Spillers Hardware and Building Supply for a number of years. He spent 31 years in Gideons International speaking at 115 different churches representing the Gideons. In addition to his missionary work, Mr. Spillers donated blood to the Red Cross to help others in need. He was a past president of the Covington Rotary Club, Newton County Jaycees, and Newton County Camp of Gideons International. Mr. Spillers was preceded in death by his parents, Alva Otis and Mary Delbridge Spillers.

 

Mr. Spillers is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Anne Tuck Spillers; sons, Thomas Spillers (Patty), Lance Spillers (Sangmi); sister, Amelia Moseley (Gary); sister-in-law, Fran Brown (Buddy); several nieces and nephews; and Chris, Lisa, Skylar, and Jackson Longdin.

 

A Funeral Service for Mr. Spillers will be held Friday, November 5, 2021, 11:00 A.M., at the First Baptist Church of Covington, 1139 Usher Street Northwest, in Covington, with Dr. Cody McNutt officiating and interment following in Southview Cemetery, in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington on Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Covington, 1139 Usher Street Northwest, Covington, Georgia 30014, or the Andrew Page Pancreas Cancer Fund.

Rodney Shane "Rocky" Ramey

Rodney Shane "Rocky" Ramey, of Oxford, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021, at the age of 41. Rodney was a lifelong resident of Newton County and the owner and operator of RSE Construction. He was a very skilled carpenter and loved riding his Harley. Rodney had a charming personality and loved making people laugh with his funny stories.

 

Survivors include his son, Ethan Ramey; parents, Doug and Teresa Ramey; sister, Amanda Ramey Collins (Randy); niece, Alyssa Collins; nephew, Dawson Collins.

 

A Celebration of Life for Rodney will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021, 2:00 P.M., at Burnt Pine Plantation, 1161 Blackwell Road, in Newborn. Deborah Sue Mixon

Deborah Sue Mixon, of Covington, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021, at the age of 68. Mrs. Mixon enjoyed the simple things of life such as bird watching, feeding the deer on her property, and listening to Elvis. Above all, time spent with her grandchildren is what she treasured most. Mrs. Mixon was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Walter and Margaret Frances Howard.

 

Survivors include her loving husband of 46 years, Glenn Mixon; sister, June Whisnant; brothers, Jackie Howard and Don Howard.

Frank Malcolm

Mr. Frank Malcolm, 78, passed away October 31, 2021, in his home in Newborn, Georgia. Mr. Malcolm was born in Porterdale, Georgia on June 8, 1943, to the late Corry W. Malcolm and Maggie Odell Malcolm. 

 

Frank served as an Elder at Luther Hays Presbyterian Church where he was a delegate to the National Presbyterian Conference. Frank was also a Certified Lay Speaker of the Methodist Church and served on the Board for many years. 

 

Frank was a successful entrepreneur, receiving his Chartered Life Underwriters designation from The American College and retiring as a Financial Advisor and Insurance Agent from his own company, Malcolm Financial Services. During Frank's career he served as the President of the Walton/Monroe Area National Association of Life Underwriters. Beyond Mr. Malcolm's career, he was deeply involved in local agriculture. In high school, Frank was the President of the Newton County FFA. An officer of the Piedmont Cattleman's Association and a Master Cattleman, Frank was the Jasper County Conservationist of the Year in 2009 and was the recipient of many other awards. Mr. Malcolm proudly served as the first president of the Newton County Jaycees, was the President of the Meriwether County Kiwanis Club, and also a member of Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge #6.

 

Mr. Malcolm is preceded in death by his parents, Corry W. Malcolm and Maggie Odell Malcolm, as well as his brother, Donald Malcolm. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mrs. Laura Mitchell Malcolm, sons, Lin Malcolm and his wife Carol Malcolm, Kirk Malcolm, and Kevin Malcolm and his wife Sissy Malcolm. Frank is also survived by siblings, Wayne Malcolm and his wife Rita of Covington, Georgia, his sister Patricia McKibben of Macon, Georgia, and Faye McIntyre of North Augusta, South Carolina. Frank also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

 

The family wishes to express a special "Thank You" to the staff and nurses of Lighthouse Hospice for the love and care shown to Mr. Malcolm. 

 

A Memorial Service for Mr. Malcolm will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2021, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Blane Allen officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, two hours prior to her service, from 12 Noon – 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family request that a donation be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Foundation or the Scottish Rite Hospital.
