Ilse Hurt

In the early evening hours of 10-10-20, my lovely wife, Ilse Hurt, passed away and went to be with her family in Heaven. She was 95 years young, born in Ingolstadt, Germany on August 8, 1925. We were married in Aschaffenburg, Germany, on September 21, 1957, and had been married for 63 years and 13 days. That's a lifetime for a lot of people. She had not been in good health for several years and finally in the last couple, she was really in bad health. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, a sister and brother and a daughter, Linda. It's kind of ironic that she passed away on 10-10. She had relatives that were born on 2-2, 4-4, 7-7, she on 8-8, and another on 11-11. Instead of flowers, please send that contribution to St Jude Children's Research Hospital Memorial Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. If you saw my post the other day that said I was sad, that's the reason why.

Mrs. Hurt will be lovingly remembered by her husband, James Hurt; sister, Karin of Aachen, Germany; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Hurt will be held Friday, October 16, 2020, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Fr. Roberto A. Orellana officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington. Friends may visit with her family at the funeral home, one hour prior to her service, from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M.

This obituary was prepared with love and affection by her adoring husband, Mr. Hurt.

CDC guidelines recommend social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing of masks while in public.  Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home requests that you observe these recommendations while in our funeral home attending visitations and/or services.  In addition, gatherings are limited to 50 persons or less in our facility at one time.  Please honor these restrictions for the safety of the family, yourself, and our staff.

obit - Gary Hammonds

Donald "Gary" Hammonds, age 71, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, October 9, 2020, after he fought a private battle with cancer. Gary's passions were music, nature, and animals.

He was an Inductee to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2013, and had his own band named Little Thunder for 20 years. Gary shared the stage with well-known acts including Lee Roy Parnell, Lonestar, the Bellamy Brothers, Swingin' Medallions, John Berry, David Allan Coe, T. Graham Brown, and many others.

Gary served in the Georgia Department of Defense Force as part of the National Guard.  He was also a Park Ranger at Yellowstone National Park in Mammoth Hot Springs, WY.  What he did best, however, was always being a great dad to his only child, Ashley Saye.

Flowers may be sent to 230 Hinton Road, Social Circle, GA 30025, or in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Buffalo Field Campaign West Yellowstone (Save the Wild Buffalo). https://buffalofieldcampaign.salsalabs.org/donationform/index.html

In recognition of his love for the outdoors, a Celebration of Life is planned for Wednesday, October 14, 2020, from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M., at The Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center, Fox Lake, 593 Murder Creek Road, Mansfield, GA 30055.  Waze GPS takes you directly to the lake. There will be small American flags at each turn from Highway 11 to the lake.

This obituary was prepared with love and affection by Gary's family.
