Obit - D.O. Shirah

D.O. Shirah, of Covington, passed away October 25, 2020, at the age of 85. D.O., as he was affectionately known by so many, faithfully served in the U.S. Coast Guard for eleven years. In 1961, he graduated from the University of Georgia, with his bachelor's degree in business administration, and remained an avid Dawgs fan his entire life. Running, playing tennis, golf and basketball were hobbies he enjoyed and a reflection of his active lifestyle. Additionally, he relished in his trips to the beach and was always up for trying his luck at the casinos – the blackjack and poker tables being his favorite! He loved his family dearly, and his grandchildren were undoubtedly his pride and joy. D.O. was preceded in death by his wife, Jesslyn Ann (LeCoq) Shirah; and his parents, Dewey, Sr., and Grace Shirah.

Those left to cherish the love and memory of D.O. are his children, Mark Stephen and Nikki Shirah, Angela and Randy Brown, Michael Forrest Shirah, Dewey "Chip" and Kimberly Shirah; grandchildren, Heather Davis, Jeremy Shirah, Kelly Shirah, Libby Whitaker, Amanda Still, Rob Brown, Drew Shirah, Zach McGahee, Todd McGahee, Brett Shirah, Brooks Shirah, Brady Shirah, Maggie Cape; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Patricia Shirah and Robert H. Denckhoff, Karen Shirah Shrouder; as well as several nieces and nephews.
