updated obit for Bryan E. Smith

Bryan E. Smith, of Stockbridge, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the age of 47.  If you knew Bryan, you knew he was one of a kind.  He loved his family and one of his greatest joys was to be able to help others.  He was loyal and generous to a fault.  Called "Stick" by most of his friends, he was the workaholic who enjoyed life and doing for other people. Survivors include his parents, Billy and Jean Smith of Covington; brother and sister-in-law, C. Alan and Valerie O. Smith of Charleston, SC; niece, Hannah Catherine Smith; nephew, Zachary O'Brien Smith; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ruth Grey (Brann) Kilgore

Ruth Grey (Brann) Kilgore, age 92, passed away April 5, 2019, after living an incredibly blessed life. She was a resident of Covington, Georgia, and a member at the First Baptist Church. Ruth was born in Detroit, Michigan, but her family soon settled in northwestern Tennessee. She started her life as a country girl, milking cows and working hard in the fields, but went on to attend UT, in Martin, and worked at the Oak Ridge Plant, in Tennessee, during World War II.

Meeting a soldier named Max, at her hometown church in Tennessee, resulted in a 68-year marriage and a family of 39 members and still growing!

As an Army officer's wife, Ruth did a lot of traveling, packing and moving all over the world, and raising four children. She loved the Lord and tried to serve Him in all she did. Ruth taught her children to live Christian lives and reared them in the Bible and church.

Ruth loved traveling to visit family and friends. She always enjoyed learning new things like swimming, golfing, knitting and playing bridge. She was an excellent seamstress and hard worker. She achieved her cosmetology license at an age many people begin to slow down, and she continued to grow a business selling Shaklee products and attaining the title of Supervisor.

To her children, Ruth is an inspiration. As they look back on her life, they see qualities they hope to inherit – hard work, patience, humility, kindness, simplicity, frugality, perseverance, competitiveness, tolerance and forgiveness. She truly was a great example of the 'Greatest Generation'. She was dearly loved by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Kilgore; parents, Johnson and Nellie (Atkins) Brann; and her sister, Martha Wilkinson.

Ruth is survived by her children, Carolyn and Leon Hayes, Nancy and Charles Cook, Charles and Diane Kilgore, Gregory and Malinda Kilgore; 15 grandchildren and their spouses; 14 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Carol Brann of Palmersville, TN.

Funeral Services for Ruth will be held Monday, April 8 2019, 3 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Cody McNutt officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family Monday, immediately prior to her service, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made in Ruth's memory, to First Baptist Church, 1139 Usher Street NE, Covington, GA 30014.
