Emma Jean "Mama Jean" Lazenby, of Newborn, passed away April 18, 2019, at the age of 83. Affectionately known as "Mama Jean" to her family and friends, Mrs. Lazenby was a devout Christian and follower of the Holiness church principles. She had a giving and caring demeanor, and her capacity to love was one of her greatest attributes. For 20 years, Mrs. Lazenby opened her home and her heart to over 200 children in need, and in her role as a foster parent, she provided her "children" a place where they could be well cared for and loved. She did carve out time to pursue some of her many interests; Mrs. Lazenby, a perfect marksman, liked to be outside, whether working in the garden, fishing, or taking care of her animals. She also enjoyed seeking out local yard sales and taking trips to the beach and casinos. Though she was pampered and doted on in her many years being married to Thomas, she still maintained her independence, which would serve her well in her later years. Mrs. Lazenby was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lazenby; son, Anthony Lazenby; parents, Lawrence and Ollie (Pendergrass) Cochran; as well as several sisters and brothers.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Fredrick Pfeiffer; grandchildren, Kelly and Rodney Jeffares, Kim Holcombe, Fredrick Scott Pfeiffer, Tiffany and Michael Anderson, Christopher Pfeiffer, Summer and Eric Blackwell, David and Anna Pfeiffer; great-grandchildren, David Osburn, Cheyanne and Allen Smith, Bill Elliot, Tom Matthews, Ryan Holcombe, Chase Pfeiffer, Pacy Anderson, Fredrick (Stormy) Pfeiffer, Mcalya Blackwell, Conner Blackwell, McKenzie Blackwell, Michael Anderson, Brandon Anderson, Madison Anderson; great-great-grandchild, Mason Smith; sister, Pamela Swanson; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Pat Cochran; niece and great-nephew, Christina Parker, Charlie Parker (both of whom she raised); as well as additional numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Lazenby will be held Saturday, April 20, 2019, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, in Covington, with Pastor Darren Cochran and Pastor Kurt Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in New Rocky Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 190 Rocky Creek Rd, in Mansfield. Friends may visit with her family at the funeral home, Friday, April 19, from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M.
