Bryan Ardelean (Shann)

Bryan Ardelean (Shann) of Covington, passed away October 27, 2018, at the age of 37. Bryan was a fun-loving person and had a great sense of humor. He loved his family and his two sons – they were his world and his life revolved around them. A sports fanatic, Bryan was a LA Lakers fan and enjoyed watching basketball, UFC, boxing, and football. In addition, he was an avid photographer and liked to fish.

 

Survivors include his sons, Noah Ardelean, Kobe Ardelean; fiancé, Karen Howell; Mother and step-father , Mary and Mark Shann; father and step-mother, Mark and Nancy Ardelean; sisters and brother-in-law; Jessica and Jeremy Klapproth, Kylie Ardelean, Jayla Rae; Nephew, Luca Klapproth; maternal grandmother, Mary Matthews; aunts and uncles, Ray and Bonnie Matthews, Bob and Barbara Matthews, Patrice and Scott Smith, George and Gina Shann, Dolly Neumann; cousins, Shannnon and Doug Nazarenus, Jennifer Matthews, Christina and Killian Grant, Ted Davis, Angela Comacho, Jeanette Comacho, Kimiko Comacho, and Helena Comacho.

Harold Goss, age 63, of Stockbridge, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018. Harold was the epitome of a man who genuinely loved being outside. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, caring for his farm animals and tinkering with tractors; other favorite pastimes included hunting and fishing. Harold's diligence and strong work ethic endeared him to all who knew him. He will be remembered as a loyal family man who took immense pride in caring for his loved ones. Harold was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Mitchell; parents, Penny and Annie Ruth Goss; sister, Connie Sue Phillips; and brother, Henry Goss.

Margaret Ann Lunsford, age 80, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018. Mrs. Lunsford was a past member of Porterdale Baptist Church and most recently attended Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church. She was a strong Christian woman who believed in honesty and hard work. At home, Mrs. Lunsford delighted in tending to her flowers, cooking for family, and caring for her two dogs, Bandit and Molly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Sarah (Poke) Biles; as well as dear friend, Dr. Tuck.

 

Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, Brice Lunsford; daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Shelton Griffin; sons, Rickey Lunsford, Dennis Lunsford; grandchildren, Nick Griffin, Travis Griffin, Brian Lunsford, Amber Bennett, Lyn Marie Haynie; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Nelson, Jeanette Burel; as well as brothers, Billy Biles, Larry Biles.

Penny Carter

Penny Carter of Oxford, passed away October 25, 2018, at the age of 65. Mrs. Carter was employed by Golden State Foods where she worked for 21 years. One of nine siblings, Mrs. Carter was a strong and dependable woman and was the rock of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony A. Carter; and daughter, Marsha A. Mitchell.

 

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Natalie Lott, Michael Carter and wife, Amy E. Kiento, Gary Owen and girlfriend, Tamara Huber, Dana Kitchens; grandchildren, Troian Lott, Elric Lott, Meilee Dean, Lunaria Kiento, Elsenora Kiento, Mathew Owen, Melanie Denney, Carrie Mitchell, Jennifer Boyd, Stephanie Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Ariel, Cooper, Alice, Sophia; and sister, Teresa Wilson.

Donna Lynn Scott

Donna Lynn Scott, age 59, of Tellico Plains, Tennessee, and formerly of Jackson, Georgia, left this world peacefully on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at University of Tennessee Medical Center to go home to be with her Lord. Of the Christian faith, she was a caretaker and always putting others before herself. Donna was a great cook and her family was her world. A loving wife, mother, "Nanny", daughter, sister and aunt, she will be greatly missed by all. Donna was preceded in death by her father, George W. Tatum; and two brothers, Dennis "Dimbo" Tatum, Larry Tatum.

 

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Steven O. Scott; sons and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Krystal Scott, Justice Scott; daughters and son-in-law, Jessica Conley and Tony Rinehart, Jamie Scott, Jenna George, Jazmin Scott; mother, Dorothy "Dot" Harrison; sisters and brother-in-law, Diane Cornish, Janice and Rob Hampton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ricky and Diane Tatum, Gary and Cindy Tatum; grandchildren, Whitney, Bethaney, Sydney, Courtney, Matti, Minni, Molli, Merri, Miles, Maggi, Mason, Kagan, Lil' Charlie, Cadence, Chase, Channing, Hunter; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Brianna Day

Brianna Day of Oxford, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at the age of 19. Anyone who met Brianna was greeted with a huge smile - one that radiated her strong love for Jesus. No matter how she felt, Brianna genuinely cared for others. Second only to her love for the Lord was her adoration for her mom and dad. Never one to take anything for granted, Brianna delighted in long truck rides with her dad, who was also her best friend; they went on adventures that oftentimes ended with her favorites - french fries and a Mountain Dew. One of Brianna's last requests was to sit on the beach and thank God for His many blessings. Her family will forever be grateful to her donor whose generosity gave Brianna a second chance. Those who knew and loved Brianna will remember her as a kind and loving daughter, granddaughter, niece and cousin. She was preceded in death by her aunt, Kristy Day.

Sara Elizabeth Ayers of Oxford, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at the age of 89. Mrs. Ayers was born and raised on her family's farm. She enjoyed working outside, cooking meals for her family and Sunday afternoon visits from friends. A member of Gum Creek Presbyterian Church, in Oxford, Mrs. Ayers actively participated in several groups. She was involved in the Adult One Sunday School Class, the Gum Creek Golden Group, and was a lifetime member of The Presbyterian Women. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Alice S. Wilkerson; parents, E. Ramey and Runnie McWaters Sammons; and brother, E.R. Sammons.

 

Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Talmadge Ayers; daughter and sons-in-law, Hazel and Ed Brand, Doug Wilkerson; grandchildren, Allison Wilkerson, Ben and Amanda Brand; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Rita Prish

Rita Parish of Covington, passed away October 17, 2018, at the age of 77. Born in West Point, Georgia, she moved to Covington in February of 1956. Mrs. Parish graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1960 from Covington Junior Highschool. Employed in the secretarial field for 44 years, she spent 35 of those years as an administrative assistant to the vice president at Lithonia Lighting. She loved spending time with her family and friends and adored her church family. When she traveled, she enjoyed going to Cherokee, North Carolina or Jekyll Island. Mrs. Parish was blessed with a wonderful daughter, Ragen, who filled her heart with pride and joy. Ragen and her son-in-law, Bob, blessed her with the two most perfect granddaughters, Tamara and Tori. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Leon Parish, Sr.; parents, Joe and Ruby Thompson; son-in-law, Bob Cantrell; step-son, Doug Parish.

 

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Ragen Cantrell, Barbara and Herb Ruecksties, Belinda and Don Colburn; son, Thomas L. Parish, Jr.; grandchildren, Tamara and Dusty Utes-Fouser, Tori and Chad Andrews; great-grandchildren, Bryson Utes-Fouser, Aubrey Utes-Fouser, Graylyn Andrews; as well as several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Dwight Townley of Oxford, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at the age of 60. Whether at his job or working on the farm, Dwight took pride in being a hard worker. In 2012, the Dawson County Fire Department honored his exceptional work ethic with the Lifetime Achievement Award. As a man who valued family and loved being outdoors, he cultivated a strong bond with sons, Jason and Travis, while camping, trout fishing, watching them play sports and volunteering as a Cub Scout leader for their Troop. Funny and personable, Dwight was the center of attention at social gatherings – always cracking jokes and making others laugh. He was also known for his love of gospel music and singing in church. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, L.B. Ford and Orlene (Cantrell) Townley.

Donna Annette Long-Robinson of Stockbridge, passed away October 16, 2018, at the age of 63. Donna was a strong, independent, loving and caring person. She enjoyed spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren. Always smiling, she was a joy to be around. A selfless and compassionate person, Donna was active with pet rescue. She always made sure to make others feel as if they were the most important person in the world.

Lollie E. Roseberry, age 91, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018. Mrs. Roseberry retired from Mobil Chemical, in Covington, where she worked as an executive secretary. As an active and supportive member of First Baptist Church of Conyers, she was involved in ministry through her Co-Workers Sunday School Class.  In earlier years, she served her Lord through the WMU at Porterdale Baptist Church and oftentimes organized prayer chains.  Mrs. Roseberry's spiritual gift was hospitality and part of that gift was shared through her abilities as an amazing cook.  She prepared many meals for families in need. Her hobbies were flower gardening and sewing. Mrs. Roseberry's family knew her as and will remember her for being a devoted follower of Christ and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Vernon Roseberry; parents, Arthur and Evie Lou (Henson) Johnson.

 

Mrs. Roseberry is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Mona Roseberry, Tony and Natalie Roseberry; grandchildren, Mark Roseberry, Julie Roseberry, Holly Roseberry, Benjamin Roseberry; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Garry Brooks of Covington, age 64, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018. Garry was an all-around sports fan. He loved to hunt and enjoyed fishing - especially anytime he was able to go with his cousin, John Brooks, who was more like a brother, and his brother-in-law, Wayne Lazenby. A devout Christian, Garry was known for his caring heart and generous nature and was quick to help others in need. He will also be remembered for his remarkable sense of humor. Garry adored his sister, Cathy, and they shared a close bond as siblings - always there to support and uplift one another. He was preceded in death by his son, Garry Leon, Jr.; and father, Calvin Leon Brooks.

 

Survivors include his mother, Marie Brooks of Covington; sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Wayne Lazenby; as well as several cousins, aunts and uncles.

Chris Barfield

Chris Barfield of Conyers, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at the age of 91. Mrs. Barfield had an incredible work ethic and never slowed down. She enjoyed traveling, going on cruises and working in her flower garden. Mrs. Barfield was a people person and loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack E. Barfield; parents, R. and Camila Gordon; four sisters; as well as one brother.

Stephen (Bubba) Craig Hudgins, Jr.

OBITUARY

 

Stephen (Bubba) Craig Hudgins, Jr., of Covington, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018, at the age of 20. Bubba was a 2016 graduate of Alpha Omega High School. He was a Christian young man and a lifelong member of The Baptist Tabernacle, where he actively participated with several ministries. In addition to being a member of the Joy Sunday School Class, he worked with the youth for many years and was also part of the outdoor ministry. Bubba was equipped with an exceptional work ethic. He worked six days a week with the R.E. Michel Company, in Conyers, and had just recently started his own landscaping business, Newton Lawn Pros. An outdoorsman through and through, Bubba carved out time to enjoy his favorite activities - hunting, fishing and boating. Social in nature and family-oriented, he also made time for being with friends and loved ones. As a self-taught musician, Bubba played bass, guitar, banjo and piano. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dr. Derrell D. Hudgins.

 

Survivors include his parents, Dr. Stephen C. Hudgins, Sr., and wife, Sandy, of Covington; sister Elizabeth Ruby Hudgins of Covington, and her boyfriend, Ben Landers of Bennett, NC; maternal grandparents, William and Shirley Moody of Covington; paternal grandmothers, Jane Hudgins of Marietta, Madeline Hudgins of Fayetteville; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Brant Sweat officiating.  Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Marshal Mote

Marshal Mote of Sparta, passed away October 9, 2018, at the age of 81. Mr. Mote enjoyed being outside whether it was fishing, hunting or riding on his golf cart. Additionally, he would like to pull pranks on people. He shared his great work ethic with his children and grandchildren. Mr. Mote liked building houses and making people happy. Always putting others before himself, he loved spending time with his family and enjoyed life to its fullest. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Mote; son, Billy Mote; parents, Marion and Bertha Mote; brothers, Donald Mote, Jerry Mote, and James Mote.

 

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Robbie Zappa, Scarlet and Bill Cooper; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Donna Mote; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Regina Anderson, Betty and Gavin Patton, Sylvia Anderson; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Joyce Mote; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Service for Mr. Mote will be held Friday, October 12, 2018, 1:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington with Pastor Dwayne Jones officiating and interment following in Green Meadow Memorial Gardens, 699 American Legion Road, Conyers.  The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, Thursday, October, 11 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

Debra Dial of Covington, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018, at the age of 65. A hair stylist for 38 years, Debra was passionate about her profession and the clients she served at Alexandria's Hair Design. Debra loved the Lord and was known for her fun and outgoing personality - she was adored by all who knew her. She loved to sing and dance and spend time at the beach. Debra was an attentive and caring grandmother who enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren while they played their favorite sports. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Bobby Joe Dial; parents, Hollis, Sr., and Margie (Rider) Ball; as well as sister, Lottie Hill.

 

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Jodi and David Garner, Julie and Chad Langley; son and daughter-in-law, B.J. and Jennifer Dial; grandchildren, Erica Garner, Shelby Garner, Jared Garner, Macy Langley, Lucas Langley, Parker Dial, Mattie Dial; sisters, Teresa Spangler, Jackie Pike; brother and sister-in-law, Hollis, Jr., and Cookie Ball; brother-in-law and his wife, Mark and Cindy Dial; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Service for Debra will be held, Friday, October 12, 2018, 4:00 P.M., at Solid Rock Baptist Church, 8111 Brown Bridge Road, in Covington, with Pastor Mike Franklin officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church, one hour prior to her service, from 3:00 - 4:00 P.M.

Mary Boswell of Gainesville, passed away October 9, 2018, at the age of 79. Mrs. Boswell was very spiritual and loved the Lord. She treasured the time she spent with her family and shared a special bond with her grandchildren. Mrs. Boswell enjoyed having lunch with her daughters and traveling to the mountains with her husband, Jerry. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Boswell; parents, John and Evie Lance.

Glenn Christian of Covington, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018, at 92 years of age.  Mr. Christian retired from General Motors after 32 years of dedicated service.  In addition to his talent for telling tall tales, Mr. Christian loved dogs, spending time deer, rabbit, and quail hunting, as well as fishing and frog gigging at Jackson Lake.  He also enjoyed woodworking, sharpening knives, and folk art.  Mr. Christian was blessed with a host of good friends who loved him and will miss his company.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Phillips) Christian; parents, Travis and Euphie (Lunsford) Christian; sister, Evelyn Childers; and brother, Jack Christian.

 

Survivors include his sister, Louise Christian Mobley of Covington, and several nieces and nephews.

Bertha Annette LaCount

 

Bertha Annette LaCount of Watkinsville, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at 83 years of age.  Even though she was gifted with outstanding culinary skills, she never passed up the opportunity to eat good barbecue!  An independent, committed, hardworking woman, she was an avid Elvis fan and was devoted to her dachshund dogs.  Mrs. LaCount was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil LaCount.

 

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law Donny and Virginia Saxton, Gary Saxton; granddaughter, Virginia Andrews and her husband, Brian; and great-grandson, Austin Bailey.

 

Final arrangements will be announced as soon as that information is available.

Franklin Canup of Covington, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018, at the age of 68. Franklin retired from Dart Container after 24 years of dedicated service.
