Speady Cantrell

Speady Cantrell of Loganville, passed away November 29, 2018, at the age of 57. Speady was known for making the most out of life. She always spoke her mind, was an excellent cook, and had a fondness for animals. With her fun personality and loving demeanor, Speady was adored by all who knew her. Family mattered most, and she happily made time for her friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manly and Martha Banks; sister and brothers.

 

Survivors include her loving husband of 20 years, Tim Shannon; daughters and sons-in-law, Christy and David Jones, Amy and Jonathan Roberts; step-daughters, Amber Elias, Ashli Shannon; grandchildren, Katie Dobson, Madison Jones, Kayla Jones, Breanna Roberts, Christopher Jones, Haley Roberts, Blake Roberts, Abbygale Roberts, Jailynn Elias; great-grandchild, Bryson Dobson; sister, Teresa Smith; brothers, Alan Banks, Gary Banks; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Lyudmila Semenikhina of Covington, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the age of 58. Mrs. Semenikhina was joyful, always full of life, and never gave up on her fight with Multiple Sclerosis. In addition to her love of reading and writing poetry, Mrs. Semenikhina was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making delicious meals for loved ones. She adored her family and friends dearly and enjoyed the time spent with them. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aleksey Semenikhin; son, Yevgeniy A. Semenikhin; mother, Maiya Polʹ; father, Yevstakhiy Oseredchuk.

 

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Dmitriy A. Semenikhin, Vyacheslav A. and Yekaterina Semenikhin; grandchildren, Lara Sophia Semenikhin, Matthew Levi Semenikhin; mother-in-law, Lidiya Semenikhina; sisters-in-law, Tamara Batazhan and her husband, Viktor, Irina Semenikhin and her husband, Sergey; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Semenikhina will be held Sunday, December 2, 2018, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Deacon Nikolay Bumburyak officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Margaret P. Hubbard

Margaret P. Hubbard of Warrenville, South Carolina, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the age of 70. Mrs. Hubbard was an active member of Cornerstone Apostolic Church in North Augusta, South Carolina. She loved working with her hands and often crocheted booties, hats, scarves and blankets for her family and church family. Mrs. Hubbard was the light that lit up any room, and she always went above and beyond for everyone. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ruby Floyd.

Braden Stevenson of Covington, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018, at the age of 12. Vibrant and full of life, Braden had beautiful blue eyes and an infectious smile. His funny demeanor, larger than life personality, and love of dancing - especially "flossing" – naturally made him the center of attention. Braden made friends easily, and it was his caring demeanor and support for others in need that endeared him to all. He was adventurous, enjoyed being outside, loved animals and was a collector of many things. Braden's favorite TV show was The Green Arrow. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Joe Beard, and John Woodlee.

Johnny Lamar Smith

Johnny Lamar Smith of Oxford, entered into his eternal rest Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the age of 73. Mr. Smith retired after 35 years of dedicated service with the United States Post Office in Conyers. After retiring, Mr. Smith enjoyed working with his son, Ashley, and cooking on the grill. He was a strong individual and never complained about what he was going through. Family was always his number one concern. Mr. Smith loved traveling with his wife, Brenda, especially to Germany and most recently to the mountains this past October. Coaching his sons in little league baseball and teaching his grandchildren how to drive and swim, he shared a special bond with each of them. In addition, Mr. Smith liked to sing with his children in the car. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Agnes (Strawn) Smith; brother, Kenneth (Pee Wee) Smith, Donnie Smith; and sister, Betty S. Jones.

McKenzi Dawn Middlebrooks of Loganville, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the age of 19. The essence of McKenzi was her selfless nature, a heart that was pure and her inclination to always put others first. She had a strong resolve and an unwavering faith in God that enabled her to push through the most difficult times. McKenzi's tenacious spirit was also evident as she advocated for the underdog, which in turn, made the world a better place. She was a "girly-girl" who loved makeup and clothes, yet she was just as happy to be outdoors, hunting and fishing. McKenzi had a smile that lit up the room and a way of making those around her feel special. She loved her family, friends and her beloved dog, Beau. McKenzi was preceded in death by her maternal grandfathers, Russell Franklin Trent, Jr., and Charles Edwards Boyd, II.

Herbert Lee Bratcher

Herbert Lee Bratcher of Covington, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2018, at the age of 66. Herbert Lee was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a member of the True Gospel Lighthouse church in Madison, GA, and loved his church family dearly. He was a man of strong faith and fought a long, hard battle with cancer for 10 years.  Even in his weakest moments, he never failed to make anyone who knew him laugh. To know Herbert Lee was to love him and to have a smile on your face. Herbert Lee was the owner of Lee's Roofing for 36 years. He loved his oldies music and western TV shows. He was Elvis Presley's and John Wayne's biggest fan, and he had watched every episode of Gunsmoke and NCIS there ever was. He loved his Georgia Bulldogs. Herbert Lee was loved and will be missed dearly. Our loss is Heaven's gain. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Howard and Mable Joyce (Ward) Bratcher; and sister, Angela Bratcher.

 

Survivors include his devoted wife, Judy Bratcher; daughter, Joy Bratcher, Covington, both of Covington; sisters and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Kenneth Ricks of Canon, GA, Susan Payne of Comfort, TX; as well as several nieces and nephews.

obit for Larry Mostek

 

Larry Mostek of Covington, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at the age of 80. A dedicated and faithful man of God, Mr. Mostek pastored several churches while living in Nevada and California. Second only to his love for Christ was his love of family; he spent quality time with loved ones whenever possible. Mr. Mostek shared a special bond with his grandchildren and will be remembered for his devotion in helping to guide and coach them in their favorite sport. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and he loved to play softball – he even played for a senior travel team. Mr. Mostek was preceded in death by his mother, Orpha Bruffey; father, Alfred Mostek; and sister, Mary Mostek.

 

He is survived by his adoring wife, Patsy Mostek of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Raymond Maxwell of Conyers; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark Mostek of Conyers, Matthew Mostek of Covington, Michael and Kelly Mostek of Mansfield; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and David Kartzer of Arizona, Victoria and Larry Halbert of Oregon; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Delia Gonzalez of Conyers, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2018, at the age of 92. Mrs. Gonzalez was born in Havana, Cuba. Before migrating to the United States, she lived in Nashville, Miami and New Jersey. She retired from Solvay Laboratories where she worked as a line operator. Mrs. Gonzalez was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and loved participating in the activities at Rockdale Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Jose Gonzalez; parents, Isabel and Jose Toledo; and brother, Fernando Toledo.Survivors include her Son, Carlos Gonzalez and partner, Jimmy Miller

An amazing cook, she liked preparing meals for her family. Mrs. Bailey was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. In addition, she delighted in working in her flower garden, decorating for the holidays, and collecting "what-nots". She loved spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Bailey will be remembered as a wonderful mother and wife. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Mae and Horace Todd; three brothers; and one sister.

Teresa Spangler of Porterdale, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at the age of 69. Mrs. Spangler was of the Baptist faith. She loved to sing and spend time with her grandbabies. Mrs. Spangler had a contagious laugh that would light up the room. Affectionately known as "GanGan", she will be remembered as a loving grandmother and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Ronald "Speedy" Spangler; sisters, Lottie Hill, Debra Dial; and parents, Hollis and Margie Ball.

Ruby Straley of Covington, passed away, Monday, November 5, 2018, at the age of 92. A longtime and active member of The United Methodist Women's Group, Mrs. Straley attended Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, where she also sang in the choir, and, in more recent years, was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church, in Conyers. Her loving demeanor, servant's heart and fierce independence made her a natural caregiver. In addition to raising her children while her husband, Mack, served in the military, Mrs. Straley used her gifts to provide exceptional care for him upon his return from Vietnam, as well as attending to the needs of her son, Mack, II. She will be remembered as a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Straley was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Straley; son, Mack Straley, II; parents, John and Tinia (Dean) Flint; as well as nine sisters and brothers.

Obit - Kitty Dell King

Kitty Dell King, of Mansfield, passed away November 5, 2018, at the age of 77. Mrs. Kitty was a faithful member of Mansfield Baptist Church. There, she formerly served as Treasurer and attended the Joy Sunday School Class. Her faith in God was apparent as she devoted her life to living for Him. Mrs. Kitty's family was of utmost importance to her, and she took great pride in staying home and raising her family. Sunday Dinner was a staple in their home, and she cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Kitty was preceded in death by her loving husband, James E. King, Sr. "Big E"; her parents, Bennett and Jewell (Callaway) Shelton; and her brother, Bennett Frank Shelton, Jr.

 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dye and Harry Galloway; son and daughter-in-law, James E., Jr., and Sandy King, all of Newborn; grandchildren, James E. King, III "Ethree", Eli Galloway, Kit King, Ethan Galloway, Lillie King, Ezra King, Ella King; brother, Donnie "Buck" and Susan Shelton; sisters-in-law, Julie Timms, Mary Ellen King, Frances Shelton; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Kitty will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018, 11 AM, at Mansfield Baptist Church, 101 Woodlawn Road, in Mansfield, with Dr. Jeff Perkins officiating and interment following in Carmel Cemetery. She will lie in state at the church, one hour prior to her service, from 10 – 11 AM. Friends may visit Mrs. Kitty's family Wednesday, November 7, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Elizabeth Blair Maynard

Elizabeth Blair Maynard of Social Circle, passed away November 5, 2018, having just celebrated her 100th birthday in August.  She loved the Lord as evidenced by her membership at Salem Baptist Church for more than 30 years.  More recently she was a loyal member of Social Circle Baptist Church. Among her favorite pastimes were sewing, crocheting and tending to her flower garden.  Mrs. Maynard was also known for the delicious meals she prepared for her loved ones.  A kind-hearted, generous, and loving woman, she adored taking care of her family.  She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Maynard was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Beverly Maynard; parents, William Paul, Sr., and Viola (Reid) Blair; and her brother, William Paul Blair, Jr.

 

Those surviving Mrs. Maynard include her daughter, Angela "Angie" Shrader; sons, Larry Maynard, Allen Maynard, Neal Maynard; grandchildren, Robbie Shrader, Rebecca Thurman, Paul Maynard, Jennifer Braswell, Chris Shrader, Johnathan Maynard; great-grandchildren, Hailie Pence, Emily Huggins, Katie Thurman, Francie Thurman; niece, Marilyn Harrod; and nephew, William Paul Bair, III.

Glenn Nolan Seagraves

OBITUARY

 

Glenn Nolan Seagraves of Stockbridge, GA, passed away November 4, 2018, at the age of 69. Glenn enjoyed playing in a band in high school. He also liked playing tennis and baseball. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Seagraves, father, Harvey James Seagraves Jr.; maternal grandparents; Pauline and Earnest Pulaski Copeland; paternal grandparents, Pansy and Harvey J. Seagraves, Sr.

Ettie Jane Cowan

Ettie Jane Cowan of Conyers, passed away November 4, 2018, at the age of 81. Mrs. Cowan retired from Dow Chemical after many years of dedicated service, and held various positions with other companies after her time there. She enjoyed reading, traveling and decorating her house in her spare time. Mrs. Cowan was preceded in death by her brother, Don Cowan and parents, Jim Henry Cowan and Ettie Jeanette Cowan.  

 

Ms. Cowan is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Virginia and Bobby Cowan of Conyers; nieces, Patty Martin, her husband, Michael, and their son, Luke Cowan Martin, all of Conyers, Janet Couch, her husband, Joseph, of Covington, and their son, Jesse Couch, of Monroe; cousin Edward Waldrop of Conyers; as well as many friends.

Betty Jean Henderson Jenkins

Betty Jean Henderson Jenkins of Covington, passed away November 2, 2018, at the age of 81. Mrs. Jenkins was a supportive member of Solid Rock Baptist Church where she attended The Faithful Sunday School class and served as the administrative assistant for Willing Helpers Medical Clinic. She was a strong family woman who delighted in time spent with loved ones. Mrs. Jenkins also enjoyed traveling to the beach. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Henderson Sr.; daughter Rhonda Castellana; daughter-in-law, Denise Henderson; parents, John and Emma Lou Park.

 

Survivors include her husband of ten years, Ed Jenkins; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Ferreiro, Denise and James Osburn; sons and daughter-in-law, Freddie Henderson, Doug Jenkins, David and Carla Jenkins; grandchildren and their spouses, Stahr and Warren Dimsdale, Brent and Melinda Powell, Adam Henderson, Courtney and Chris Trost, Cristina and Joe Franklin; numerous great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Park; several nieces and nephews; as well as her beloved dog, Gracie.
