Johnny Lamar Smith

Johnny Lamar Smith of Oxford, entered into his eternal rest Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the age of 73. Mr. Smith retired after 35 years of dedicated service with the United States Post Office in Conyers. After retiring, Mr. Smith enjoyed working with his son, Ashley, and cooking on the grill. He was a strong individual and never complained about what he was going through. Family was always his number one concern. Mr. Smith loved traveling with his wife, Brenda, especially to Germany and most recently to the mountains this past October. Coaching his sons in little league baseball and teaching his grandchildren how to drive and swim, he shared a special bond with each of them. In addition, Mr. Smith liked to sing with his children in the car. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Agnes (Strawn) Smith; brother, Kenneth (Pee Wee) Smith, Donnie Smith; and sister, Betty S. Jones.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Brenda Womack Smith; daughters, Lisa Smith Allgood and husband, Brad of Covington, Angie Smith Middlebrooks and husband, Stephen of Social Circle; sons, Tony Smith and wife, Shannon of Jersey, Ashley Smith and wife, Kelli of Covington; grandchildren, Lauren, Alex, Jessi, Aaron, Claire (Bear), Alex, Chandler, Gracie, Emma, Everett, Elliott; sisters, Bernice (Tootsie) Mealor of Madison, Edith (Cookie) Moss of Covington;  as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Service for Mr. Smith will be held Sunday, November 25, 2018, 1:00 PM at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, Covington, with Pastor Darrell Allen officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home, Saturday, November 24, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.
