Teresa Ashton

Teresa Ashton passed away at her home in Social Circle, Friday, June 24, 2016, surrounded by her loving family and close friends after a valiant 6-year bout with cancer.  She was 66 years old.  Teresa was born March 12, 1950, to a tenderhearted WWII veteran and a witty Northeasterner residing in College Park, GA.  Winston Howard and Mary Ruth (Colley) Barrett instilled in Teresa a heart of generosity, which was witnessed by everyone she knew and loved.  She had three siblings, Phila, Linda, and Clay.  The most influential person in her life was her grandmother, who often read to her from the Bible.

While studying at Georgia Southern University, Teresa met a handsome redhead named David Ashton.  Forty-one years after getting married, David and Teresa continued to model a loving, Godly, and servant hearted marriage in every way.

Despite wanting to grow up to be a cowgirl, Teresa spent a brief career as a probation officer before being called to be a full-time housewife and mother.  She loved her two boys and deeply desired to nurture them to become responsible, Godly men.  Most would agree that she succeeded.  Teresa loved to camp, garden, and restore classic cars.  She was deeply involved with a very special church body at Sewell United Methodist Church.  Teresa was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Phila Williams; brother, Clay Barrett.

Survivors include her husband David Ashton; sons and daughters-in-law, Matt and Kelly Ashton, Drew and Christi Ashton; grandchildren, Barrett, Kai, and Abby; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jimmy Porter.

John Ozley, Sandy Jackson, Sherri George, Trent Ozburn and Sandi Quiles officiating.  Interment followed in Sewell United Methodist Cemetery, 1660 Sewell Church Rd., in Mansfield.   Contributions in Teresa's memory can be made to Sewell United Methodist Church, General Fund, 1660 Sewell Church Road, Mansfield, GA  30055 or Campus Crusade for Christ, Att: Contributions, P.O. Box 628222, Orlando, FL  32862.
