William G. (Billy) Freeman, Jr., of Covington, passed away August 5, 2019, at the age of 83.
Mr. Freeman was a faithful and devoted member of First Baptist Church of Covington for 73 years. In his role as a Mason, he demonstrated his desire to serve others while also giving back to his community. He was a longtime member of the Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge # 6, in Covington, a past member of the Scottish Rite Organization, in Conyers, and a former Shriner. Many qualities endeared Mr. Freeman to those who knew and loved him; he was gifted with a great sense of humor and sharp wit, a love of people and an enthusiasm for life that was contagious. His favorite pastimes included meeting friends for coffee every Tuesday at Bojangles and tinkering in his workshop – where he taught his children and grandchildren some of the things he learned along the way. Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, William Grady, Sr., and Prudence (McMichael) Freeman.
Survivors include adoring wife of 61 years, Sue Freeman; son, William G. Freeman, III; daughter, Kimberly Freeman; grandchildren, Nichole Holder, Jessica Sullivan, Brittany Cooper, Ryan Freeman; great-grandchildren, Trey Pitts, Will Sullivan, Tyler Millwood, Gage Freeman, Layla Millwood, Madeline Holder; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Pat Freeman; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Freeman will be held Thursday, August 8, 2019, 2:00 P.M., at First Baptist Church, 1139 Usher Street NE, in Covington, with Dr. Cody McNutt and Rev. Len Strozier officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington. Friends may visit with the family at the church, one hour prior to his service, from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Covington, Attn: Murphy's Gang Scholarship Fund.
