Jerry Martin "Marty" McDonald Obituary

Jerry Martin "Marty" McDonald was a loving husband, father, pops, brother, and friend. He left this world suddenly on September 2, 2022, at the age of 54.

 

He was born in Conyers, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry McDonald and Shirley Wilkins; and brother, Carl Grey.

 

Survivors include his wife, Rene McDonald; two sons, Travis McDonald (Floki), Blake McDonald (Brianna); daughter, Lucy McDonald (Olaf); two grandchildren, Troy, Raylen; sisters, Samantha Chaney (Jerry), Diana Clark (Christopher), Vanna Chavez (Juan); as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

 

Marty was an avid outdoorsman. In his free time, Marty (Pops) enjoyed hunting, coaching the Miracle League Baseball team, boating at the lake, and camping with his family.

Harold (Les) Christian Obituary

Harold (Les) Christian, of Covington, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the age of 70. Mr. Christian was an avid outdoorsman and liked going fishing and hunting. He was an athlete by nature, having played baseball and softball. In addition, Mr. Christian enjoyed watching sports and was a dedicated fan of the Atlanta Braves. He loved his whole family dearly and treasured the time he spent with them. Mr. Christian was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Christian; and parents, Sally Mae and Gus Christian, Jr.

 

He is survived by his son, Jeff Christian (Tiffany); grandson, Wesley Christian; brother, Ricky Christian; and several nieces and nephews.

Rose Bowers Hancock Obituary

Rose Bowers Hancock, of Covington, passed away Friday, August 26, 2022, at the age of 95.

 

Mrs. Hancock is preceded in death by her husband, John Hancock, Sr.; parents, William and Mary Louise Bowers; siblings, Violet Fore, Florence Buran, Virginia Shaw, Margie King, Amelia Roughton; and son-in-law, Tom Bailey.

 

A devoted mother, she is survived by her children, Wanda Hancock Bailey, of Mansfield, John Hancock, Jr., of Conyers, Mark and Paula Hancock, of Commerce, and Larry and Pat Hancock, of Clarkesville. A much-loved grandmother, she is survived by four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Surviving siblings include Lee Trum and Roy Bowers, both of Pensacola, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Hancock will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022, 12:00 Noon, at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 11524 Highway 278, in Covington, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rose's name to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 11524 Highway 278, Covington, Georgia 30014.

Charles Kenneth Popham Obituary

Charles Kenneth Popham, of Covington, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022, at the age of 76. Mr. Popham was a craftsman by trade and loved to build things. He liked watching rubber hit the road in NASCAR races and listening to old country music. In addition, Mr. Popham loved going camping. One of his favorite pastimes included sitting in his barn enjoying a good drink with his friend, Sammy, and talking about the good old times. Mr. Popham was preceded in death by his wife, Willa Dean Popham; grandchildren, Caden Popham, Christopher Parker; parents, Paul A. and Sarah Elizabeth Popham; sister, Christine Payne; and brothers, Hoyt Pilgrim, Leonard Popham, Allen Popham, John Pilgrim.

Jenni Watts Obituary

Jenni Watts, of Covington, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022, at the age of 51. Born in Covington and raised in Jackson, Mrs. Watts was a member of Newton Baptist Church. She resided in Corpus Christie, Texas up until moving back to Georgia in 2014, becoming a Covington resident in 2015. Mrs. Watts loved doing makeup and using other beauty products. In addition, she liked going shopping, especially for shoes and purses. Mrs. Watts also enjoyed spending time by the water fishing in both saltwater and freshwater. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and loving mother.

 

She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Keith Watts; son, Jeremiah Watts; parents, James and Sarah English; sisters, Saralyn Williams, Karon Barnes (David), Sharon Crowell (Don); brothers, Jim English (Karen), Lundy English; adopted sister, Marietta Lomboy (Joseph); special niece, Heather; special cousin, April; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

David Alan Cothran Obituary

David Alan Cothran, of Monticello, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the age of 67. David was a phenomenal woodworker and could build anything with his hands. He enjoyed spending time outdoors going fishing. Additionally, David had a green thumb and loved watching his plants grow. In times of relaxation, he loved traveling to the beach and the mountains. David cherished his children and grandchildren dearly, treasuring the moments he had with them. He was preceded in death by his grandson, David J. Cothran; parents, Glen Loyd and Louise Ludlam Cothran; and sister, Deborah Maddox.

Obit - Ronald Leach

 

Ronald Leach, of Mansfield, passed away August 15, 2022, at 79 years of age.  A longtime resident of Mansfield and Social Circle, Mr. Leach was a member of Mansfield Methodist Church, United Auto Workers, and proudly served in the National Guard in Monroe for six years.  He enjoyed the time he spent outdoors hunting and fishing, but especially treasured the time he spent golfing with his identical twin brother, Donald. Mr. Leach was a people person who was very generous with his time and seemed to be able to remember everybody's name. He was a high school basketball fan, avid reader, and military historian.  Mr. Leach was interested in all he could learn about the Civil War and World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Mary Ruth (Ivey) Leach, brother, Donald Leach; sister, Hazel Womac.

 

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Leach; daughter, Stacy Renee McGraw; son, Brad Leach (Penny); sisters-in-law, Doris Campbell, Linda Leach; brother-in-law, Wayne Reynolds; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

James Walsingham, of Oxford, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at the age of 85. Mr. Walsingham was a devout Christian and member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working with his hands and was very patriotic in nature. Mr. Walsingham was a humble man who never met a stranger and gave the best hugs. He cherished spending time with his beloved family and adored his wife with all his heart. Mr. Walsingham, in his words, was "always just right". He was preceded in death by his sons, James H. Helen Adams

Helen Adams, of Porterdale, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the age of 95. Mrs. Adams was a resident of Porterdale all her adult life and was proud to call it home. She attended Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church for many years and even after she was unable to attend, she still loved and prayed for her church family. Helen was not only a devoted wife to Ellis for 70 years but also a loving mother and nana. She was known by the people she loved for having the sweetest smile, an immaculate house, and a "sweet tooth", especially for Milky Ways. She made the best cream corn. Her family would almost get in a friendly fight over the last spoonful. Most of all she loved doing for others which she demonstrated by being the mom whose house all the kids gathered at when her daughter was young, taking care of her grandmother, mother, sister, and anyone else that needed her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Adams; parents, William Madison and Ella Mae Hollinsworth; and sisters, Bearnice Mathis, Nan Franklin, Laura Jean Hollingsworth.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Higginbotham (Benny) of Porterdale; grandson, Shane Higginbotham (Mandy) of Covington; great-grandchildren, Macie, Cole, Max, Caroline, and Millie; as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was a loving, caring, and strong woman. Mrs. Wright was devoted to her husband and cherished her family and friends dearly. Sylvia Atkinson Conner, of Covington, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the age of 84. Mrs. Conner was a devout Christian and member of East Newton Baptist Church. In addition, Mrs. Conner enjoyed traveling with family and close friends on vacation. She adored her family and loved being at home with them. Jeffrey Wayne Richardson Obituary

Jeffrey Wayne Richardson, of Mansfield, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the age of 60. Mr. Richardson was a faithful member of Trinity Praise Center, in Mansfield. He loved going to church and tending to the church grounds, including cutting the grass there. Mr. Richardson was a dedicated Miami Dolphins fan and enjoyed watching them play. He had a special interest in chickens and enjoyed raising them since he was a little boy. Mr. Richardson cherished spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Calvin and Judy Richardson.

 

He is survived by his brother, Brian Richardson (Linda); nephews, Zach, Jacob; several aunts, uncles, cousins; and a host of close friends.

Charles Carver

Charles Carver, of Covington, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022, at the age of 67. Mr. Carver courageously served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Gospel Mission Church for 27 years where he served as a head deacon and trustee. Mr. Carver was a hard worker and dedicated his life to God first and his family second. He was a generous man and was always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. In his spare time, Mr. Carver liked fishing, he was an avid collector of many things and storytelling. He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Mr. Carver was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Carver; sister, Gloria Thrasher; and brother, Kevin Carver.

Stanley Thompson Obituary

Stanley Thompson, of Griffin, passed away Friday, July 8, 2022, at the age of 67. Mr. Thompson was a hard worker and great mechanic. He enjoyed working with his hands. Mr. Thompson loved to travel, especially to Colorado. He liked riding dune buggies and creating model cars. Mr. Thompson loved children, and they loved him in return. He took great joy in being Santa during the holiday season for the kids. Mr. Thompson was a generous man with quite the personality. He was a stubborn force of nature that was particular about doing things his own way. Mr. Thompson loved his family dearly. William Jensen Dick Obituary

William Jensen Dick, of Covington, passed away July 7, 2022, at the age of 8. Jensen fought a courageous battle against brain cancer, receiving a brain tumor diagnosis in January of 2022. He was always happy and would light up any room. Jensen was a wonderful and loving son and brother. His family adored him; his mother proudly states 'some people never get to meet their superhero, but I gave birth to mine'.

William Ronald Lynch, Sr. Obituary

William Ronald Lynch, Sr., of Social Circle, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the age of 77. A native of Porterdale, Mr. Lynch was a lifelong resident of Newton County. He was a proud patriot, serving in the United States Air Force for 13 and a half years. In addition to his military service, Mr. Lynch served as a Marshall with the Federal Protective Services, totaling 18 and a half years of service. He was a devout Christian and member of Covington Christian Church. Mr. Lynch was also a member of the American Legion, Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge #6, Shriners Club, and the Georgia Sheriff Association. In his younger years, he was an all-state catcher for Newton County High School. He acquired a scholarship to attend Middle Georgia College, where he obtained an associate degree in English. Mr. Lynch later went on to earn a Batchelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University while working for the Federal Protective Services. In his spare time, he was often found enjoying a round of golf. As involved as Mr. Lynch was in various organizations, he was a family man first and cherished them dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Lou and William Mick Lynch; sisters, Grace Woodruff, Gladys Lynch, Alma Fisher; and brothers, Horace Lynch, J.C. Lynch.

 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois Ann Lynch; sons, William R. Lynch, Jr. (Rita M.), Terry Lynch, Bobby Lynch; grandchild, Avery Lynch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Service for Mr. Lynch will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2022, 11:00 A.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Jim Watson officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday, July 11, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.

Stephen Owens

Stephen B. Owens, of Conyers, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the age of 67. Mr. Owens proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Independence CV-62. He was a member of Eastridge Community Church where he loved serving as an usher and greeter. Mr. Owens enjoyed the outdoors whether he was camping, fishing, or being by the water at the beach. He adored spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Mr. Owens was the life of the party, fun-loving, always laughing, and a diehard Georgia Bulldog fan. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Owens.

 

Survivors include his wife, Therese Smith Owens; daughter, April Owens Durmire (Joseph); son, Eric Owens (Patsy); niece, Danielle Cullen (Cody); granddaughters, Addison Durmire, Emma Johnson, Eliza Johnson, Julie Cullen; mother, Doris Crumley Owens; brother, Jeff Owens (Tammy) church daughter, Darci Gilreath and her son, Christopher; as well as several nephews, aunts, and cousins.

Willliam E. Cobham, Jr. Obituary

In 2006, Bill Cobham performed at the Christmas Cantata with the Voices of Ousley. Since then, Brother Bill has performed with The Praise Team, Women's Choir, S.O.N.G. Youth Choir, and The S.O.N.G. Ensemble.

William E. Cobham, Jr. graduated from George Westinghouse High School in Brooklyn, New York. As a young trombonist, Bill won a scholarship to The Brooklyn Music School. He attended the Bronx Community College School of Performing Arts. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he saw combat in the Vietnam War. In 1972, Bill started a career with The U.S. Customs Service in New York City. He is a graduate of the U.S. Customs Academy Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, in Glynco, Georgia. Bill retired in 2005 from Hartsfield Jackson International Airport with over 36 years of Federal Service.

Brother Bill has over 40 years of volunteer work in the community, since the age of 15 years, he has worked with young people. Billy's passion is sharing his musical gifts with other people. As a volunteer and community activist, Brother Bill has taught countless young people music and music theory. As the Lay Associate at the Church of the Holy Redeemer, in Brooklyn New York. Bill's job was: Music Teacher, Choir Director, Mentor, Musician, Conductor, Day Camp Director, and Mobile Theater Director. Sunday School Director, Acolyte Director, Band Leader, and Motivational Speaker. In 1965, Brother Bill introduced "Brass Music" to the Lutheran Church in America. His brass ensemble performed for the first time in a Lutheran Church. This was the start of a tradition that has continued to this day. Bill was a "Healthy Relationship Educator" for the Mature Project of Rockdale Medical Center in Conyers, GA.

During his wonderful musical career, Brother Bill performed with a host of bands and orchestras: New York Philharmonic Young Peoples Concert at Lincoln Center, Boro-Wide Band and Orchestra, All City Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, The Boro of Manhattan Community College Brass Ensemble at Town Hall, The New York Orchestral Society, The Yonkers Philharmonia, The Williamsburg Settlement Band, The Goldman Band, The Bronx Community College Orchestra. The Kingsborough College Community Band, The Clark Terry Band, The Tito Puente Band, the Willie Colon Band, First African Presbyterian Church, Ebenezer Baptist Church, St. Stephens Lutheran Church, The Seed and Feed Marching Band, and the Georgia Perimeter College Community Wind Ensemble, The Crusade Dominion Church Sanctuary Band, Epiphany Lutheran Church Chapel Choir and Church Trombonist and Dixie Land Trombonist, The Harlem Orchestral Society, Berriman JHS Orchestra and Band New York World's Fair 1965, The Covington/Conyers Community Orchestra and Conductor of the Brass Ensemble, Salem United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church of Covington, St. Simons Lutheran Church. Trombonist, Hand Bell Choir, Ambassador Choir and Founder and Leader of the FPC Brass Ensemble for the First Presbyterian Church of Covington, GA, Newton County Community Band Trombonist. Eagle Scout Cypress Hills Troop 591 Brooklyn East New York, "Operation Give A Damn Mobile Theater" Vocalist and Band Leader of "The Arbitrations." Founder of the "Prayer Band Call-Out' with a Prayer Warrior Membership of over One Thousand. Salem Camp Meeting Trombonist. Bill was a volunteer at the Covington Homeless Shelter. Bill had always had a love of Photography. He was self-taught. Bill was always there to lift someone up or to make someone laugh! Bill finally got his wish. Peachtree Academy Covington Campus. August 2017 to January 2018. Bill taught Elementary Music, Middle School Band, and High School Band. Bill was able to touch many young people because of his love of music. God put him there for a reason and for a season. Life member and volunteer with The Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless. Bill was also a volunteer with the Newton County Community Feed the Hungry and homeless.

Bill was a civil rights activist all of his life. He believed in Justice for all of God's people. His activism could have been a best seller demonstrator, marcher, and drummer. Revolt in front of Madison Square Garden 1968 because "George Wallace" was trying to be President. Bill was one of the Leaders of the Boycott of New York City Colleges in 1968. His Band "The Arbitrations" performed at the Memorial Service for Dr. King at Linton Park in Brooklyn East New York. He led thousands in a March across the Brooklyn Bridge to defy the rule of Apartheid in South Africa in 1990. In New York City, he started the wearing of "green ribbons" in support of the "Murdered Children of Atlanta" in the 1980's. Bill marched with the Dr. Joseph Lowery in the march against racism in Clayton County GA, in the 1990's. Bill led many a march with the Rev. Dr. Hosea Williams, in Atlanta, GA. He marched with "Uncle Hosea" all the way. He played the drums for Uncle Hosea's Funeral March where thousands attended. In 2009, He led over 10 thousand marchers across the "Edmund Pettus Bridge" during the "Bloody Sunday" anniversary march in Selma, AL. He was the "Drum Major" for "The March for Our Lives" Covington Square on March 27, 2018. Bill was blessed to have met two wonderful Activists: "Dr. Martin Luther King" and "Mother Theresa." Bill decided at a very young age that he would always fight for what is right. He was Bold in The Lord.

More recently, Bill was a beloved member of First Presbyterian Church of Covington, where he served as the acolyte coordinator. Mr. Bill loved this ministry offering to the children of the church.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Bill will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2022, 10:00 A.M., at First Presbyterian Church of Covington, 1169 Clark Street SW, in Covington.

Raymond Floyd Christian Obituary

Raymond Floyd Christian, of Eatonton, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at the age of 83. Mr. Christian took great joy in rebuilding and repairing cars as well as tinkering with things. In addition, he was an excellent woodworker, specializing in whittling wood. Mr. Christian enjoyed watching Westerns and spending time outdoors fishing and gardening. He collected knives, clocks, and watches throughout the years. Mr. Christian loved going to the beach, especially Carrabelle, Florida. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Christian; sons, Donald Christian, Ronald Christian; and parents, Viola Elizabeth and Dudley Bryant Christian.

 

He is survived by his daughters, Cathy Christian, Dana Christian (Shannon), Ann Parnell (Tim); son, Eddie Christian; grandchildren, Bridget Christian, Tiffany Parnell, Josh Parnell, Cody Christian, Caleb Coker, C.J. Virgil "Buck" Cope Obituary

Virgil "Buck" Cope, a Covington resident for over 50 years, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the age of 80. Mr. Cope retired from Ford Motor Company after 33 years of employment. He was a member of Seals Branch Baptist Church, in Tazwell, Tennessee. In addition, Mr. Cope was a member of the Free Masons Hampton Lodge #7. He took great pride in repairing cars, restoring them to immaculate condition. Mr. Cope also enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, especially to Mississippi, Tennessee, and Virginia to visit loved ones. He was a hard worker that did everything he could to provide for his family. Mr. Cope was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Henry Clay Cope; and brother, Dean Cope.

 

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Cope; sons, Joel Cope (Tracie), Kevin Cope (Tiffanie); grandchildren, Adam Cope, Chris Cope, Chad Cope, Jesse Cope, Cassidy Henderson, Kelsey Cope; great-grandchildren, Hallie, Hayden, Logan, Loralie, Scarlet, Kali, Addilynn; sisters, Wilma Johns, Jeri Buska; beloved cats, Mork, Mindy; and cherished chihuahua, Angel.

Belinda Lavette Clark, of Covington, passed away, at the age of 48. Ms. Clark was a graduate of Newton County High School. She was a talented hairdresser that was devoted to her clients and loved her job. Ms. Clark was very social and outspoken. She loved helping people and never met a stranger. Ms. Clark was a loving mother and had a big heart for her family.

Diane Melvin Obituary

Diane Melvin, age 79, of Covington, GA passed peacefully in her sleep on June 23, 2022. She was a lifelong resident of Newton County; she was raised in Porterdale and spent her adult years residing on Brown Bridge Road. Diane was known for her strong work ethic and for her love of family and friends. She loved family get-togethers, cooking, music, playing Bunco, reading, and talking to people; she never met a stranger. Her grandchildren captured her heart at their birth, and she thrived on spending time with them. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carlton Smith and Jimmie Lee Sparks, her husband, Jack Melvin, her son, Greg Bowen, great-grandchild, Christopher Bowen and her siblings, Ronnie Bonner and Sherry Bishop.  She is survived by her daughter, Terri Davis (Mark), and son, Todd Bowen, grandchildren, Mourad Bowen (Ginny), Rory Bowen (Dayna), David "Chris" Bowen (Nicole), Nick Bowen (Ashley), Trent Bowen (Kelsey), Lane Bowen, Tyler and Trevor Davis, her siblings, Karen Mitchell, Tina Eaton, Butch Sparks, Tony Sparks, and Jeff Sparks, her aunt Bobbie Jean Sparks, and great grandchildren, Nia, David, Natalie, Nala, Abby, Cannan, Abram, Judah, Elias, Issac, Ruth, Esther, and due in August, Remy. The love for family that Diane had will live on with those she left behind.

Thomas (Tom) Herbert Bailey Obituary

Thomas (Tom) Herbert Bailey, of Mansfield, GA, was called home to Heaven on Friday, June 24, 2022. Born and raised in Wilmington, NC, he had a wonderful and fulfilling 90 years of life.

 

Known to all as Tom Bailey, he served in the US Navy as a young man. Catching the bug to fly early on, he had bought his own airplane and had his pilot's license by age 22.

 

Mr. Bailey was a life-long Mason Emeritus, Member- American Legion, and most important to him, a highly regarded REALTOR Emeritus for his many years of service in the real estate industry. He began his own company here in Covington in September 1965, and kept it continuously open for 50 years through all sorts of trying, and good, times.

 

Tom was the patriarch of the family, having had his mother and father, Esther and Purely Casteen, and his brother Lee, all precede him in death.

 

Tom Bailey leaves behind a wonderful family, beginning with his lovely wife of 43 years, Wanda Hancock Bailey. His children are Jeff and Laurie Bailey, of Johns Island, SC, David and Bonnie Bailey, of Covington, GA, and Laura and Phillip Gregory, of Snellville, GA.

 

The family extended to his grandchildren, Seth Bailey, Ian Bailey, Eric Murphy, Matthew Murphy, Taylor Gregory, and Serah Ashley Nock.

 

And last but not the least, his great-grandchildren, Skyler Nock, Trae Nock, and Mabel Bailey. Numerous nieces and nephews are lovingly included.

 

Mr. Bailey's funeral was held Monday, June 27, 2022, at 1 P.M. Mr. Allen Lemonds officiated. His service was held in the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan on the Access Rd. in Covington, GA. Visitation with the family began at 12 Noon before the service. Interment immediately followed the service at Lawnwood Memorial Park.

 

Flowers are appreciated; however, monetary gifts to the American Heart Association are welcome.

 

The family would like to thank the people of Covington and Newton County that all knew Tom for their friendship, admiration, and love. He loved living here.

Robert Franklin McGee Obiturary

Robert Franklin McGee, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the age of 86. Mr. McGee was a member of Porterdale Baptist Church and a Royal Ambassador, better known as the RA's. He worked for Tingue Brown Furniture for 8 years. In addition, Mr. McGee retired from Hercules after 23 years of service. After retirement, he was employed with Hopi Construction for 6 years. Mr. McGee loved all of his companion animals. He adored children, and always had candy to hand out to them. Mr. McGee was preceded in death by his parents, Dora Ophelia and James Allen McGee; sisters, Vivan Farmer, Berta Rutherford; and brother, Larry McGee.

 

He is survived by his wife, Annette McGee; daughter, Pamela McGee (Ray McKrow); grandchildren, Henry McKrow, Irie McKrow, Landon Autry; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Lucy Christian Rogers Obituary

Mary Lucy Christian Rogers, 94, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 21, 2022.

 

Mary was born on May 8, 1928 and was a lifelong resident of Newton County. She was "Mama" to Diane, Henry, and Fay, and "Mema" to 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and to all that knew her.

 

Mary worked for Bibb Manufacturing Company for 36 years, where after retirement she took great pleasure in caring for all of her grandchildren. Mary loved working in the yard until her health prevented it. Her pastimes included reading, coloring, word find books, and watching her favorite show, Wheel of Fortune.

 

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, H.P. and Mildred Christian; husband, Frank Rogers; grandson, Michael Autry; and sisters, Louise Christian, Martha Lester, Virginia Aaron, and Glenda Lord.

 

Mary is survived by her children, Diane Sale, Henry and Fay Cofer; her grandchildren; Kim (Shawn) Malcom, Al (Daphne) Cofer, Kayla (Patrick) Smith, and Justin (Laken) Cofer; her great-grandchildren; Makenzie Bell, Maggie Malcom, Samantha and Maddie Autry, Jade Cofer, Aidan Kelly, Ella and Thomas Smith, and Adelyn, Peyton, and Annistyn Cofer; several nieces and nephews; and her "bestest friend", Louise Oliver.

 

Mary was a member of Crosspointe Church on Byrd Road, in Oxford. Mary loved her family unconditionally, was a friend to everyone she met, and always ready to lend a helping hand and brighten the lives of others. The legacy of her hard work, kind spirit, and zest for life will live on through her family and friends.
