Thomas McKelvey, Sr. Obituary

Thomas McKelvey, Sr., of Social Circle, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022, at the age of 82. Mr. McKelvey was a proud patriot and veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Social Circle. In addition, Mr. McKelvey was a Sunday School teacher for Rockdale Baptist Church. His father, Paul McKelvey, was a member of the House of Representatives in Georgia, which inspired him to serve as a Page at the Georgia state capital while they were in session during his younger years. Mr. McKelvey grew up on a farm in Taylorsville, Georgia, where he raised grand champion prized pigs for 4-H at state shows. He was also involved in many other organizations, sports, and extracurricular activities in school. Mr. McKelvey was a frugal man and rich with the experiences and memories he made with those closest to him. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, caring grandfather, and the best great-grandfather. Mr. McKelvey was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul McKelvey; and 5 siblings.

 

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Glenda Ellison McKelvey; sons, Tom & Sherri McKelvey, Greg & Julie McKelvey, Barry & Diana McKelvey; grandchildren, Josh & Allie McKelvey, Brandon McKelvey, Justin & Shelby McKelvey, Kevin & Taylor McKelvey, Travis & Becka Smith, Courtney McKelvey, Tyler McKelvey; great-grandchildren, Blakely McKelvey, Jackson McKelvey, Cameron McKelvey, Madison McKelvey, Olivia McKelvey, Landon McKelvey, Ava Grace McKelvey, Dauset McKelvey, Emery McKelvey, Holland McKelvey; and several nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Service for Mr. McKelvey will be held Monday, May 2, 2022, 1:00 P.M., at First Baptist Church of Social Circle, 195 N Cherokee Road, in Social Circle, with Rev. Mike Hardy officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the church one hour prior to his service from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Social Circle, 195 N Cherokee Road, Social Circle, Georgia 30025, or the American Cancer Society, 105 Westpark Drive, Suite C, Athens, Georgia 30606.

 

Governor Brian Kemp's latest executive order has eliminated restrictions on large gatherings; however, CDC guidelines recommend social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing of masks while in public. Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home requests that you observe these recommendations while in our funeral home attending visitations and/or services.
