Sterling Burney, of Covington, GA, passed away September 12, 2013, at the age of 77. Mr. Burney was a member of Almon Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Burney was a loving father and friend and enjoyed gardening and traveling. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Essie Ruth Fuller Burney; parents, Roy and Frances Burney; brothers, Larry and Jerry Burney.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Burney of Covington; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Rick Murphy of Jasper, GA, Vickie and Rev. Doug Chatham of Monroe, GA; son, Wade Burney also of Covington; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jack Burnette; sister-in-law, Eleanor Burney; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Burney will be held Sunday, September 15, 2013, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Jimmy Glaze officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday, September 14, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
