Oline Miller obit

Oline Miller of Conyers, passed away May 28, 2015, at the age of 75. Mrs. Miller was a member of Gospel Mission Church, where she enjoyed worshipping her Lord and fellowship with friends. She loved working in her yard, and traveling to the mountains and the beach in her younger years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Alma S. Gourley; and her brothers, James, Ted and Paul Gourley.

 

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Robert Miller of Conyers; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Greg Dickey of Bethlehem; son, Joe Bowling of Covington; grandchildren, Julie Conner, Samantha Bowling, Gabby Bowling, McKenzie Bowling, Joshua Pack, Jason Pack; great-grandchildren, Noah Buff, Alec Sanders, Annie Davis, Thomas Davis, Jabrail Bowling, Madison Pack, Emily Pack; as well as several nieces and nephews.  

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Miller will be held Sunday, May 31, 2015, 4:30 PM, at Gospel Mission Church, 755 Almon Road, in Covington, with Pastor Wayne Whitley officiating and interment following in Shiloh United Methodist Cemetery, in Covington. Betty Purcell obit

Betty Purcell of Covington, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at the age of 91. Born and raised in Augusta, GA, Betty was employed with IBM at the Pentagon before she married. She was active in Covington First United Methodist Church, Newton Medical Center Auxiliary and enjoyed her bridge clubs. She loved traveling with her husband, was very social and liked to entertain. While in assisted living Mrs. Purcell delighted in dancing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James William Purcell; sisters, Margaret Brandt, Louise Comstock; brothers, Frank Blitchington, Bill Blitchington, Jack Blitchington; as well as her nephew, Jimmy Purcell.

 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and James Bellinger of Johns Creek; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Vicki Purcell of Peachtree Corners; grandchildren, Kristin Manget, Julie Bellinger, Brandon Purcell, Kyle Purcell; great-grandchildren, Hannah Purcell, Carley Purcell, Cooper Manget; several nieces and nephews.

obit - Robert "Bobby" Patrick

Robert "Bobby" Patrick of Oxford, passed away May 26, 2015, at the age of 82. He was a 1952 graduate of Newton High School; and proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in both Germany and France, during his active duty from 1953 – 1957. Mr. Patrick was employed by Henson Furniture, until the business closed, and then went on to work for Hercules, for 24 years, prior to his retirement. He served as a deacon for several churches, and was Chairman of the deacon boards at First Baptist of Covington, Mt. Zion Baptist and Calvary Baptist. In addition to serving as deacon, he also treasured the time he devoted to teaching Sunday School. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan. Mr. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Fleta (Carter) Patrick.

 

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Patrick; daughter and son-in-law, Leigh Anne and Scott Knight of Oxford; granddaughter, Meghann Knight and her dear friend, Tate Gaines; sister and brother-in-law, Rebekah and Gerald Peppers of McDonough; niece, Melanie Peppers Mertz and her husband, Tom; great-nephews, Jack and Nick Mertz.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Patrick will be held Friday, May 29, 2015, 3:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Obit - Walker Doyle Smith

Walker Doyle Smith of Covington, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015, at the age of 88. He joined the United States Navy, at just 16 years old, and served on the USS Thompson which was among the first ships to invade Normandy. Mr. Smith was a former resident of Heard County, where he enjoyed participating in local Senior activities and singing in his church. He was very strong-willed, yet kind to everyone he met. Mr. Smith was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who loved nothing more than spending time with his family. He was loved and will be greatly missed. Preceding him in death were his parents, Walker and Annie Lou (Wyatt) Smith.

 

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Charles Massey of Covington, Brenda and William Lawson of Beaver, UT, Fay and David Armstrong of Social Circle, Gay Vassak of Monroe; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Wanda Bruce obit -

Wanda Reagin Bruce of Covington, passed away May 19, 2015, at the age of 57. Wanda was a hardworking, dedicated and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She was employed by Bellsouth for 18 years and the Rockdale County Tax Office for 7 years. Wanda was always happiest when she was taking care of someone or decorating her home and yard. She was loved dearly by her family and pets and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Q.E. Reagin, Jr.

 

Survivors include her husband, Johnny Bruce; children, Ben, Clint and Benjamin; grandchildren, Jayden and Alyssa; mother, Fay Reagin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kelly and Marian Reagin, Tracy Reagin, Scott and Marci Reagin; step children, Shane and Jeremy Bruce; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

John E. Garner

John E. Garner, of Covington, passed away May 19, 2015, at the age of 80.  He retired from the United States Army as a Chief Warrant Officer after 20+ years of honorable service to his country.  Mr. Garner was a member of Eastridge Community Church and Disabled American Veterans.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife Kathy and working outside. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Garner; parents, B.F., Sr. and Daisy Garner; sisters, Mildred Adams and Frances Henry.

Sara Bone

Sara Bone, of Covington, passed away May 17, 2015, at the age of 75.  A member of Prospect United Methodist Church, Mrs. Bone enjoyed flower gardening, reading, and completing crossword puzzles. In addition, she enjoyed caring for animals, especially dogs and cats.  She loved babies, whether they were her family members or not.  Mrs. Bone was preceded in death by her husband, Howell Bone; daughter, Kayron Bone; parents, Aquilla and Ella Ruth Hailey; as well as her sister and three brothers.

Marion C. Cashwell

Marion C. Cashwell, of Buckhead, passed away May 18, 2015, at the age of 92.  Mr. Cashwell proudly served his country during WW II.  He traveled around the world with Jackie, his beloved wife of 72 years.  Mr. Cashwell was a hard-working man who loved the Lord.  He cherished his family and enjoyed farm life, especially working with his cows.  Mr. Cashwell was preceded in death by his son, Rondy Cashwell; and parents, Clyde and Mary (Tippet) Cashwell.

 

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Cashwell of Buckhead; daughters and son-in-law, Dawn and Terry Toles, Sondra Garner; sons and daughter-in-law, Marion B. and Mary Cashwell, Wayne Cashwell; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Obit - Betty Jenkins Lamb

Betty Jenkins Lamb, age 82, of Mirimar Beach, Florida, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Abbey Hospice, in Social Circle, GA. Daughter of the late Ed and Marie Dire, she was raised in Conyers, GA, and had a successful 30-year career in real estate while earning multiple sales awards throughout her career. Betty was known as the "fiery red-head agent" with a passion for real estate and service excellence. She was a longtime resident of the Gulf Pines community, in Miramar Beach, FL, and was an active member of The Gathering Church, in Miramar Beach. She loved spending time with her family, playing cards, socializing with her friends in Gulf Pines at the Taj Mahal, watching TV and taking golf cart rides with her companion dog, Lamb Chop. Betty was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gene Criswell and her beloved, Walt Lamb; granddaughter, Nicole Herring; her parents; and her brother, Melvin Collins.

Eugene T. Stephens of Jackson, passed away May 15, 2015, at the age of 78. Mr. Stephens retired after 30 years of service from Southern Bell in 1991. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Stephens Auto Service for 8 years, then drove a truck for Harland Stone for 2 years. He loved his family, friends and puppies dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lottie Kate Yarbrough Stephens; sisters, Maebell Britt, Janet Rylee, Barbara Bagwell and nephew, Tony Britt.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Vivian J. Survivors include her beloved husband of 50 years, Paul Mitchell of Monticello; daughters and sons-in-law, Renae and Russell Watts, also of Monticello, Sharon and Dondi Bonner of McDonough; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Leslie Mitchell of Cumming; grandchildren, Elizabeth Camacho, Clayton Watts, Jordan Wheeler, Rebecca Bonner, Hunter Mitchell, Hayden Mitchell; great-granddaughter, Sophie Rae Wheeler; and sister, Joice Weddington of Ashland City, TN.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Mitchell will be held Friday, May 15, 2016, 1:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Darrell Payne and Pastor David Payne officiating.  Interment will follow in Green Meadow Memorial Gardens in Conyers.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, May 15, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.

Dina Farr Sanders

Dina Farr Sanders of Monroe, passed away May 7, 2015, at the age of 50. Dina was a strong, hardworking mother, who raised her three boys by herself. She had a positive attitude and tried to always set a good example for her family. Dina enjoyed being in the kitchen and was an excellent cook. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her brother, Baron Epps, and step-dad, Russell Woodall.

 

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger Dean, Jr. and Jennifer Joy Archuleta., Brandon Michael Farr and Jennifer Clark, Britten Aaron Farr; grandchildren, Sean, Jason, Erin, Billy; mother, Pat Woodall; father, James Farr brothers, Scott Epps, Jimmy Farr; sister, Candy Rodriguez; several nieces and nephews; as well as her significant other, John Dee.

 

The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Tuesday, May 12, from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M.

Obit - SFC Thomas H. Maloy

SFC Thomas H. Maloy of Walnut Grove, passed away May 5, 2015, at the age of 68. He was a 1965 graduate of Loganville High School. Shortly after graduation, SFC Maloy was drafted into the U.S. Army, and continued his service to his country until his retirement, in 1994, after 27 years of service. During his military career, he served in the 82nd Airborne, and was a drill sergeant and ANOC and BNOC instructor at the Noncommissioned Officer Academy, one of the largest training departments at Fort Gordon. Thomas loved his boys and granddaughters immensely, and he was very proud of each of them. He loved camping and family time - especially in Pigeon Forge. Thomas was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.J. and Myrtle Maloy.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Linda Maloy; sons and daughter-in-law, Tony Maloy, Tommy and Brande Maloy; granddaughters, Kat Maloy, Torie Maloy, Jill Maloy; sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Huey Long; brother and sister-in-law, Louie and Susan Maloy; mother-in-law, Mamie Durand McElreath; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

 

Funeral Services for SFC Maloy will be held Friday, May 8, 2015, 5:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington.
