John E. Garner, of Covington, passed away May 19, 2015, at the age of 80. He retired from the United States Army as a Chief Warrant Officer after 20+ years of honorable service to his country. Mr. Garner was a member of Eastridge Community Church and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Kathy and working outside. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Garner; parents, B.F., Sr. and Daisy Garner; sisters, Mildred Adams and Frances Henry.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Garner; daughter, Karen Parham; grandson, Branden Wayne Hudson; sister, Francine Smallwood; brothers and sisters-in-law, B.F. and Mary Garner, Doug and Carol Garner; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Garner will be held Friday, May 22, 2015, 11:00 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, May 21, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army of Newton County, P.O. Box 1044, Covington, GA 30015.
