Annie Lou Purkey of Covington, passed away April 3, 2016 at the age of 97. Mrs. Purkey, a resident of Covington since 1953, enjoyed gardening and will be remembered as a great cook. She was a loving mother and mother-in-law, and will be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Purkey was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, David Arley Purkey; parents, Emory and Gussie (Baker) McCart; sisters, Ruth Ewing, Catherine McClain; and brother, Edgar McCart. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Purkey of Covington; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service for Mrs. Purkey will be held Friday, April 8, 2016, 11:00 AM, at New Covington Cemetery, Davis Street, in Covington. Friends are invited to join the family for visitation at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, Thursday, April 7, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army of Newton County, P.O. Box 1044, Covington, GA 30014, or American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605.
