Steve Jeffries of Covington passed away October 23, 2016, at 62 years of age. A Newton County native, and a 1971 graduate of Newton County High School, Steve was a member of Cornish Mountain Baptist Church. He worked at Kroger in Covington for more than 25 years. Steve was a musician, playing with several bands, mainly Steele Road Band. He loved to play string instruments, but primarily lead guitar. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Lois (Lynch) Jeffries.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Pam Jeffries of Covington; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Tara Jeffries of Social Circle; grandchildren, Bradley Caron, Morgan Jeffries; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Jonas Smith of Leesburg, FL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Steve will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2016, 3:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, with Pastor Gerald Stowe, Pastor Phil Payton, Pastor Chad Caldwell officiating. Serving as pallbearers are members of Steele Road Band, Mike Rogers, Andrew Senn, Danny Ewing, Pastor Phil Payton, Wayne Aldridge, Joey Cordell, and Tex Evans. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home two hours prior to the service, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Newton County Humane Society, P.O. Box 2536, Covington, GA 30015.
