obit for Augustine Sute

 

Augustine Pacquette "Sute" of Conyers, passed away June 26, 2017, at 86 years of age. Mrs. Pacquette was born in Dominica and migrated to St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands, and later to the United States where her children reside.  She was a resident of Westbury Healthcare and Rehab for two years.  Mrs. Pacquette loved the Lord and was a faithful Catholic for all her life.  She will be greatly missed by all, as she was a strong pillar in her hometown of Grand Bay and Estate Thomas in the Virgin Islands.  Mrs. Pacquette was preceded in death by her parents Anthony and Bernadine (Francis) Pacquette, and her sister, Clementia St. Louis.

 

She has left to mourn children, grandchildren, and many children of friends that she helped to raise.  Also mourning her departure will be a host of close friends and relatives, to include Ms. Bay, Ms. Shirley, and Janet.

 

Catholic Funeral Rites Ceremonies for Mrs. Pacquette will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017, 11:00 AM, at Caldwell and Cowan Funeral Home with Rev. Mr. Brian Kilkelly officiating.  Friends may visit with the family at funeral home, one hour prior to the service from 10 AM -11 AM.  A Repass will be held following the service at Courtyard by Marriott, 1337 Old Covington Highway, in Conyers. Her family wishes to thank everyone for their kindness and gifts of sympathy during this time of grief.

obit for Mrs. Lott

 

Julia (Judy) Lott of Covington, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 90 years of age. Mrs. Lott attended Union Chapel, a one-room schoolhouse in Eatonton, Georgia. As a young girl, she and her family moved to Covington, where they oversaw the daily operations of a local dairy farm. Before retiring from Bibb Manufacturing, Mrs. Lott was employed at Consolidated Five and Dime, Oxford Manufacturing Company, and Covington Mills. Her passion to serve was evident throughout her life. In addition to serving as a troop leader for both the Brownies and Girl Scouts, Mrs. Lott was a youth leader, Sunday School teacher, and steward during her membership at Trinity United Methodist Church. Most recently a member of Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church, she will always be remembered for her loving and generous nature. Mrs. Lott was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Otis Thomas Lott; son-in-law, Phillip Peppers; parents, James Walker and Lillie Mae (Strange) Presley; sister, Emma Jean Petty.

 

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Vickie Peppers of Social Circle, Brenda and William (Bill) Rosser of Covington; grandchildren, Pam Greer, Phil Peppers, Randy Rosser; great-grandchildren, Bryson Rosser, Bailey Rosser, Seth Rosser, Christopher Greer, Victoria Greer, Trey Peppers, Zack Peppers; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Hilda Presley of Conyers, Olin and Judy Presley of Fairburn; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

 

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Lott will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017, 2 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Ron Compton and Ms. Shirley Strange Smith officiating. Friends may visit with her family at the funeral home, one hour prior to her service, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. Delia Sweat Fleming

Delia Sweat Fleming of Covington, passed away June 26, 2017, at 67 years of age.  Born to Forrest and Kathryn (Hilderbrand) Sweat, who have preceded her in death, Mrs. Fleming had a special interest in politics.  She was extremely active in the local and state Republican party.  Mrs. Fleming served as president of Covington Woman's Club, as well as being a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, and while teaching students with special needs, she was involved in several educational associations.  She was a member of Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL, but attended Zion Baptist Church, Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church and First Baptist Church.  Her family was her hobby until the children were grown, at which time she became very actively involved in politics.  Mrs. Fleming will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

 

Survivors include her devoted husband of 45 years, Ester Fleming of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law, Ashley Fleming of Covington, Jason and Andrea Fleming of Rapid City, SD, Tim and Lacey Fleming of Covington; grandchildren, Isiah Fleming, Ian Fleming, Jax Fleming, Lena Fleming, Colby Fleming, Hannah Fleming; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathryn and Bobby Henson of Jacksonville, FL, Julie and Don Price of Clayton; brother and sister-in-law, Forrest and Susan Sweat of Blackshear, GA; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

 

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Fleming will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017, 3:00 PM, at First United Methodist Church, 1113 Conyers Street, in Covington, with Rev. Jan McCoy, Rev. Sela Harper of Covington, passed away June 24, 2017, at 83 years of age. Mrs. Harper was armed with a strong sense of family and a love for gospel music. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Leon Harper; daughter, Patricia (Harper) Long; and her parents.

 

Survivors include her grandchildren, Anna Hunt, Kelly Carter, Angela Hunt; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

obit for Mr. Morris Allen

Morris W. Allen, formerly of the Covington/Salem community, passed away in Americus, Georgia, June 22, 2017, at 96 years of age. Mr. Allen was a veteran of the United States Navy who honorably served his country during WWII. He was a long-time member of Salem United Methodist Church in Covington and, for 30 years, worked at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Doraville. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. Preceding Mr. Allen in death was his wife of 60 years, Juanita (Lewis) Allen; son and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Sharon Allen; parents, Walter W. and Lucille (Lofton) Allen; and sisters, Inez Shwent, Jewell Dennis.

 

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Susan Allen of Americus, GA; grandchildren, William Kim Allen, Jr.; Laura Solum and husband, Curtis; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Robert Nail of McDonough; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A Graveside Service for Mr. Allen will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2017, 11:00 AM, at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Carol Standard officiating. Phillip Tapes of Covington, passed away June 20, 2017, at 82 years of age. Having served in Vietnam, Mr. Tapes was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired as an E-7 Master Chief, after 23 years of dedicated service to his country. A lifelong patriot, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the VFW, and the American Legion, as well as being a Mason. Mr. Tapes was also a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Phyllis Tapes; and parents, Syvester and Mariah (Williams) Tapes.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 24 years, Pat "Dear" Tapes; daughters and son-in-law, Fannie Mae Tapes, Melissa Tapes, Rita Tapes, Monique George, Roslind and Desi Veals; sons and daughter-in-law, Phillip Tapes, Michael Tapes, Louis and Johnetta George, III; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Russell, Mary Broadway, Rosa Sutton; brothers, Dr. S.S. Rita Frances Sears of Covington, passed away June 20, 2017, at the age of 86.  Mrs. Sears loved her Lord and Savior and could often be found telling people about Jesus.  The youngest of fourteen children and proud of her Italian heritage, she enjoyed relating stories about her childhood.  Mrs.  Sears cherished the time she spent with her family, especially around the dinner table, enjoying the delicious meals she prepared. She was very fashion conscious and never left home until she was perfectly dressed.  Also known as Nana and Great-Nana, she was recognized as the rock of her family. Her home was her Badroca. 

 

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Harry Sears of Covington; daughter, Lori Colson of Milledgeville; grandchildren, Nathaniel Gabaree, Justin Colson, Jeremy Colson, Coral Whitney, Kristen Whitney, Mark Whitney, Jr., Keith Whitney, Jessica Whitney; great-grandchildren, Sean Mer, Keishaun Drake, Kaila Abree Gabaree, Kharissa Gabaree, Kira Gabaree; sisters, Nina Braiwa, Jean Pedrolini, brother, George Pedrolini; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Obit - L.C. Farrow

L.C. Farrow of Mansfield, passed away June 20, 2017, at the age of 87. From 1948 – 1952, Mr. Farrow proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was employed by Lockheed Martin, for 10 years, before continuing his career with Delta Airlines where he was a dedicated employee for 32 years. Mr. Farrow was a faithful member of Mansfield Baptist Church, for 25 years, where he served as deacon and sang in the choir. He enjoyed spending time outside, working in his yard, playing golf and painting landscape scenes on sand dollars. Mr. Farrow was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Farrow; parents, Wilson and Pearl (Pilgrim) Farrow; two sisters and two brothers.

 

Survivors include his beloved wife, Betty J. Farrow; daughter, Karen Booth of Covington; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Marlene Farrow of Kingsport, TN; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Service for Mr. Farrow will be held Friday, June 23, 2017, 3:00 PM, at Mansfield Baptist Church, 101 Woodlawn Road, in Mansfield, with Dr. Jeff Perkins officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church Friday, one hour prior to his service, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Sarah Adams of Covington, went to be with her Savior on June 18, 2017, at 81 years of age.  Born May 29, 1936, to Stewart and Lucy Marcum Duty, who have preceded her in death, she was originally from Chapmanville, WV.  Mrs. Adams was a member of the New Life Praise Center and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley F. Adams; her parents; two brothers; and six sisters.

Martha Parr Arnold

Martha Parr Arnold of Covington, passed away June 16, 2017, at 68 years of age.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Covington, and was involved in the Mission Seekers Sunday School Class.  She was also an active member of the Covington Pilot Club. Mrs. Arnold was employed as a school nurse in the Newton County School System for several years.  In addition, she worked for several doctors in the Newton and Rockdale area, including Dr. Robert Faulkner.    She was a gentle soul who loved babies and never met a stranger.  If you were her friend, you were considered a part of her family.  She was well-known and well-loved, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by her parents, Charles E. and Dorothy Parr; and brother, Guy Parr.

 

Survivors include her devoted husband of 50 years, Lyle Arnold; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. Jr., and Marrianne Arnold of Covington, Stephen Matthew Arnold and Dana Beth Miller of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Emily Grace Arnold, R. Logan Arnold; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Scott Lynn of Covington, passed away June 17, 2017, at 74 years of age. After dedicating 20 years of service to Hercules, Mr. Lynn retired and went to work for Walmart in Monroe, where he performed various duties. He enjoyed being outdoors - either tooling around in the yard, or sitting on the front porch watching the cars pass by. Mr. Lynn will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Will and Inez (Lee) Lynn.

UPDATED obit for Lynn Lewis

 

Lynn Lewis of Covington, passed away June 16, 2017 at 62 years of age. Before retiring from the Rockdale County School System, Lynn worked at Sims Elementary for 10 years. Growing up, she was a member of Covington Presbyterian Church and since 1993, was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Lynn took pleasure in reading, traveling, and crocheting. She also volunteered her time to the Relay for Life of Newton County, and was nominated to serve as Honorary Chair in 2015.  A devoted military wife for many years, Lynn will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jaymie Lynn Lewis; and parents, James Clinton and Barbara Ann (Blasingame) Corry.

 

Survivors include her loving husband, Paul Lewis; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Kelly Lewis; grandchildren, Brylie Lewis, Jaxson Lewis; and sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Al McCoy.

 

A Memorial Service for Lynn will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017, 1:00 PM, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 1002 Bethany Road, in Covington, with Rev. Al Myers officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 105 Westpark Drive, Suite C, Athens, GA 30346, or to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 1002 Bethany Road, Covington, GA 30016.

Michael "Mike" Sizemore of Oxford, passed away June 15, 2017, at 60 years of age. Mr. Sizemore proudly served his country in the United States Army for 20 years, serving in both Vietnam and Desert Storm before his retirement. He then embarked on a career in law enforcement, where he worked as a corrections officer with the Newton County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Department of Corrections. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace L. Sr., and Wilma (Maxwell) Sizemore.

 

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Donna K. Sizemore; daughters, Melissa Neil, Emily Sizemore, Lorraine Aleres, Kristine Nichols; sons, Christopher Sizemore, Nathan Sizemore, Edward Walsh, Payton Peale, Zane Springer, Devin Springer; 24 grandchildren; sister, Ann Hill; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Graveside Service for Mr. Sizemore will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2017, 9:00 AM, at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, in Canton.

Paul Deerman of Covington, passed away June 13, 2017, at 84 years of age. A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Deerman owned and operated Paul's Body Shop for 52 years. He was a devoted family man who liked to travel and fish whenever possible. Mr. Deerman was also an avid sports fan – especially NASCAR racing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Ross and Eva (Croft) Deerman.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Ann Deerman; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Larry Bennett of Lawrenceville, Diane and Dean Petty of Lithia Springs; grandchildren, Gary Hammond, Marcus Bennett; great-grandchildren, Cameron Hammond, Colten Hammond, Chloe Hammond, Olivia Bennett, Amelia Bennett; sister, Frances Fells of Gadsden, AL; sisters-in-law, Mary Rogers of Covington, Mary Deerman of Eatonton; brother-in-law, Fred Lord of Covington; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Thomas "Tommy" C. Kelly

Thomas "Tommy" C. Kelly of Covington, passed away June 12, 2017, at the age of 66.  In addition to serving 2 ½ years in the Army, for 21 years, Mr. Kelly flew as a Mission Pilot for Civil Air Patrol.  He gave his time freely making wedding videos and lending a helping hand whenever and wherever needed.  Mr. Kelly also enjoyed entertaining as an amateur magician.  Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his father, Augustus Thomas Kelly; and sister, Ada Kelly.

 

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Deborah Kelly of Covington; daughter, Kerri Anne Womack of Jackson; grandchildren, Abby Womack, Aiden Womack; mother and step-father, Winnie and Olin Smith of Columbia, SC; sister, Karen Brown Lite; half-brother, Michael Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Service for Mr. Kelly will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017, 3:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, with Art Stansbury officiating.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service on Saturday, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Kelly may be made to Mt. Virginia Johnston - UPDATED

Virginia H. Johnston of Social Circle passed away June 12, 2017, at 83 years of age.  A 1954 graduate of the University of Georgia Nursing Program, Mrs. Johnston worked as a registered nurse in the Atlanta area for many years.  In addition to being an active member of Social Circle First Baptist Church, she was an avid Bulldogs fan. Mrs. Johnston was also a member of the Social Circle Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Stephen Johnston; parents, James Arthur and Minnie Mae (Colquitt) Hegwood; sister, Juanita Sharman; and brothers, James Hegwood, Benny Hegwood.

 

 

Survivors include her devoted husband of 63 years, Joe Johnston; daughter, Jan McElroy of Conyers; 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Joanie Hegwood of Conyers; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Johnston will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017, 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 195 N. Cherokee Road, in Social Circle, GA.

Cheryl Eubanks of Covington, passed away June 9, 2017, at 53 years of age. Cheryl attended Prospect United Methodist Church in Covington. She had a fondness for dogs, loved arts and crafts, and had an insatiable sweet tooth – especially for candy. Cheryl will be remembered for her tenacious spirit and fiery personality. She was preceded in death by her mother, Esther Lee (Ward) Gibson.

Joan "Maw Maw" Stone of Oxford, passed away June 3, 2017, at 90 years of age.  An active member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, Mrs. Stone served as Communion Steward, Membership Chair, and was a member of the Under Fifty-Five class for many years. A strong family woman, she adored spending time with her loved ones – the lake being a favorite spot to fellowship together. Those who knew Mrs. Stone will remember her as sincere, loving and classy. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, of 45 years, Buddy Stone; and parents, Luther and Jessie Williams Gower.

 

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, James H. A graduate of Tucker High School, Michael was a professional driver for nine years - most recently employed with Brand Vaughn Lumber Company. He enjoyed grilling, fishing, and was an avid Alabama football fan. Being with family was most important to Michael, especially time spent vacationing together. Gifted with a witty sense of humor, he was known for making people laugh. Michael will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gail Folkerts.

Geraldine Capes Moss passed away June 3, 2017 at 86 years of age. A loving mother to her five children, Mrs. Moss was also a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She took pleasure in cheering on her favorite team, the Georgia Bulldogs, and watching NASCAR racing on T.V. Shopping, especially on QVC, was another favorite pastime. Hoke Waddy Batson of Covington, passed away June 2, 2017 at 80 years of age. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Batson earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University. He was owner/operator of Peachtree Lighting in Covington since 1982. In addition to being a successful business owner, Mr. Batson was a faithful member of Covington First United Methodist Church for over 30 years. He was also active in Lay-Witness Missions with the church. RV camping and playing golf were among Mr. Batson's favorite ways to relax and enjoy life. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nelle Batson; and parents, Smith and Edna (McAlister) Batson.

 

Survivors include his wife, Joan Batson; son, Kevin Batson (Julie) of Marietta; step-children, Beth Hughes (Robin) of Greensville, SC, Ann Blankenship (Ernie) of Pawleys Island, SC, Greg Garrison of Greenville, SC, Mark Garrison (Michelle) of Travelers Rest, SC; grandchildren, Morgan, Meredith, and Lauren Batson; step-grandchildren, David, Drew, Max, and Samantha Garrison; brother and sister-in-law, Phil Batson (Beth) of Anderson, SC.

Connie Evans of Covington, passed away May 31, 2017, at 63 years of age. Connie attended Covington Mill United Methodist Church and was known to those who loved her as selfless, independent, and funny. She had a gift for being able to provide strength for others in times of need. Watching movies on the Hallmark Channel, shopping, going to the beach, and reading mystery novels were a few of her favorite pastimes. Additionally, Connie loved dogs and cats - especially cats.  She adored being with her family and will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Preceding her in death were her parents, Johnny and Betty (Johnson) Bennett; and son-in-law, Tim Luke.

 

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Charlie "Tex" Evans; daughter, Jennifer Luke of Eatonton; grandchildren, Jessica O'Bryon and husband, Jamie Harrison, and Jacob Lucero.
