Morris W. Allen, formerly of the Covington/Salem community, passed away in Americus, Georgia, June 22, 2017, at 96 years of age. Mr. Allen was a veteran of the United States Navy who honorably served his country during WWII. He was a long-time member of Salem United Methodist Church in Covington and, for 30 years, worked at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Doraville. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. Preceding Mr. Allen in death was his wife of 60 years, Juanita (Lewis) Allen; son and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Sharon Allen; parents, Walter W. and Lucille (Lofton) Allen; and sisters, Inez Shwent, Jewell Dennis.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Susan Allen of Americus, GA; grandchildren, William Kim Allen, Jr.; Laura Solum and husband, Curtis; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Robert Nail of McDonough; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service for Mr. Allen will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2017, 11:00 AM, at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Carol Standard officiating. Friends may visit with his family, one hour prior to his service, from 10:00 AM – 11 AM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 3962 Salem Road, Covington, GA 30016.
