Henry John Daniecki, 88, of Covington, passed away at his home, October 15, 2013, following a long illness with dementia. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having proudly served his country as a gunner on the USS McClanahan #615, for three years, during World War II. Mr. Daniecki was born in East Chicago, Indiana, and grew up on a farm in Knowlton, Wisconsin. He worked on the farm in his early years, and joined the Navy when he was just 17. He met his wife, Alice, in Holly, Michigan, and the two married in 1963. That same year, Mr. Daniecki opened Uncle John's Used Furniture Store, in Holly, MI. In 1972, he moved to Covington to escape the cold winters; and in 1973, he started Reliable Plumbing and Heating Co., where he worked for 26 years before retiring. He loved this small town, and wanted to serve the people therein. Mr. Daniecki had a passion for people, animals, dancing and listening to polka music. He was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church for 38 years. He loved telling jokes and making people smile. Mr. Daniecki never met a stranger, and was always willing to help the less fortunate. He always introduced himself as "Happy Henry"; and to his wife, he was her "Sailor Man". He loved the simple things in life, and his family will forever cherish the values he taught and the love he shared. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Daniecki; grandson, Dustin Daniecki; mother, Pauline (Marko) Vercimak; father, Edward Daniecki; sister, Lou Ogle; and his brothers, Ed Daniecki and Tom Daniecki.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Alice (Winde) Daniecki; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Joe Beeco of Monroe; son and daughter-in-law, John and Raygina Daniecki of Covington; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald Vercimak of Green Bay, WI; several nieces and nephews, and many close friends.
Funeral Services for Mr. Daniecki will be held Thursday, October 17, 2013, 1:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Craig Storlie and Pastor Wayne Rutherford officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, October 16, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
