Obit - Irvin Custer Dean

Irvin Dean, 78, of Conyers, GA, passed away peacefully in his sleep, January 5, 2014. He was born September 2, 1935, at home in Meador, WV. Irvin was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was a lifelong coal miner. He worked for U.S. Steel where he earned a reputation as a great belt foreman. Whether known as 'Irvin' to his co-workers, or 'Cus' or 'Uncle Cus' to his family and friends, he was a hard worker and loved to work his land. He was known for his ingenuity and work ethic, as both were a big part of him. He was as much a part of the mountains as the mountains were a part of him. He will be missed by all who knew him. Irvin was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie J. Dean; parents, Dock and Pauline (Mitchell) Dean; brothers, Sherlock and Lowell Dean; and his grandparents, Alonzo and Nancy E. (Varney) Dean.

Survivors include his children, Melanie Clouse of Conyers, GA, Irvin Kim Dean of Knoxville, TN, Tim and Sheila Dean of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Arika, Ethan, Olivia and Caleb Dean, Lucas Dean, William Griffith and Christina Clouse.

Services for Custer and his wife, Bonnie, will be held at a later date. They will be interred in Blackberry City, WV, beside his parents. Forever together, in life and death, Irvin C. and Bonnie Dean.
