James P. Edwards of Covington passed away May 26, 2016, at the age of 88. Mr. Edwards was a member of High Point Baptist Church, for 67 years, where he served as a Deacon and the Sunday School Director. He proudly served his country with the U.S Army, and he retired from Lithonia Lighting after 50 years of service. In addition, he was a member of the Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge #6, in Covington and the Newton County Masonic Square Compass Club. He was a big Atlanta Braves fan. Preceding him in death were his parents, Edgar Pierce and Edna Geneva Edwards; sister, Patricia Alice Edwards.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Scottie Edwards; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and John Tomlin, Tamie and Greg Zechman all of Covington; grandchildren and their spouses, Misty and Tom Richards, Ashley and Daniel Malcom, Brooke Tomlin; great-grandchildren, Cole Richards, Lane Malcom, Bo Malcom; sister, Betty Tuggle; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Edwards will be held Sunday, May 29, 2016, 4:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road in Covington, with Pastor Tom McElhaney officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may join the family for visitation at the funeral home Saturday, May 28, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Georgia, Atlanta Suite #550, 225 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30303.
