obit for Steven Hodges

Steven Wayne Hodges (64), Covington, Georgia passed away, Sunday, September 11, 2016 in Bangor, Maine. Steve was born, June 6, 1952 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Donald and Shirley Hodges.  He was one of three brothers and two sisters. After graduation Steve moved to McAllen, Texas to study Spanish at Kingsway, emersion-style.  Following several months of Spanish he then worked as a missionary in Mexico with Front Line Missions.  He spent ten years teaching, preaching, building churches and loving the Mexican people.  He was then called as an Associate Minister to one of Atlanta's largest churches.  He received a Bachelor of Science in the College of Health Sciences from Georgia State University, August 1984.  In April of 1998, Steve became a Licensed Professional Counselor.  For 14 years Steve (Mad Dog) worked as Director of Audits for APS Healthcare; for the past year he worked for Beacon Health Options.

During his life, riding motorcycles was one of his biggest joys.  He laughed and said "that is how I am going to go out -- on my motorcycle."  He was an excellent driver and loved going on very long trips with his friends.  As a servant of the Lord, Steve loved working and helping other cultures.  He was a member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association, who minister to the motorcycle community and raised money annually to provide motorcycles and transportation to pastors in third world countries.  He was preceded in death by his mother Shirley Hodges, brother Charles Hodges and nephew Charlie Hodges.

Survivors include his friend and wife, Kathy; daughter, MJ; father, Donald Hodges (Wilma); sisters Sheila and Marilyn (Jess); brother John (Barb); two step children, Kevin (Alex) and Maggie (Remington) and grandchildren (Peyton, Rylee, Connor, Charley); several nieces and nephews, and a myriad of special friends.

Friends may visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, Saturday, September 17, 2016, from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM.  A "Celebration of Life" will follow at  Gateway Community Church, 11677 Brown Bridge Road, in Covington, Saturday at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers it was Steve's request to have donations made to: "Run for the Son", Christian Motorcyclists Association.  CMA-RFS, P.O. Box 9, Hatfield, AR 71945. We will always remember Steve's kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion, commitment to his Lord, and his wonderful laugh and sense of humor.
