Jo Henry

Joe Henry of Covington, passed away February 22, 2017, at the age of 61. Restoring old cars and watching classic westerns was proof of his love for things of the past. He also enjoyed riding           motorcycles. Mr. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Alton, Sr., and Susie (Dollar) Henry; brother, Jimmy Henry.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Terri Henry; sons and daughters-in-law; Joseph, III, and Marcia Henry, Jesse and Misty Henry, Jason Henry, Sr.; grandchildren, Destiny, Kirsten, Shelby, Madison, Jason, McKinlee, Ayden, Jacob, Ryleigh, and Cody; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Johnny Banks, Wendy Henry, Cricket and Jim Cagle; several nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Service for Mr. Henry will be held, Wednesday, March 1, 2017, 2:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Deacon John Held officiating. Friends may visit with his family at the funeral home Tuesday, February 28, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.

obit for Mr. Frank L. Harris

Frank L. Harrison, of the Eudora Community, passed away February 23, 2017, at the age of 86. Mr. Harrison was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving 7 years' active duty, and 16 years in the United States Naval Reserve. On Mr. Harrison's 68th birthday, he began his walk across the United States, starting on Tybee Island, GA, and ending in Santa Monica, CA - covering 2,431 miles and taking 7 months to complete. Mr. Harrison performed in community theater and loved music. He will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by son, Mark Harrison; parents, Alfred Frank and Elizabeth (Kitchens) Harrison.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Harrison; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Elaine Harrison of Danville, GA, Rex and Becky Harrison of Covington, GA; grandchildren, Roger Harrison, Robin Hunter, Will Hunter; great-granddaughter, Sophia Hunter; adopted great-grandchildren, Vallie, Georgia, Dixie, Haley; sister, Betty Hopkins of Lawrenceville, GA; several nieces and nephews.

 

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Harrison's memory to Prospect United Methodist Church Building Fund, 84 Barnes Mountain Road, Mansfield, GA, 30055.

James E. Hunter, Jr.

James E. Hunter, Jr., of Covington passed away February 19, 2017, at 58 years of age.  Mr. Hunter enjoyed riding his Harley and collecting old cars, but he especially enjoyed traveling to the mountains.  Mr. Hunter loved camping and will be remembered for delicious campfire breakfasts he prepared.  Mr. Hunter cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, James Earl Hunter, Sr.; and step-father, Robert Lee Pittman.

 

Survivors include his wife, Tina Hunter of Covington; daughter, Nikki Johnson and husband Daniel of Grand Bay, AL; sons, Jason Hunter and wife Lyndsey of Butler, GA, Tabb Hunter and wife Miranda of Reynolds, GA, Brandon Hunter and wife Heather, also of Reynolds; 13 grandchildren; mother, Daphne Mae Pittman of Macon, GA; sisters, Lynn Wright and husband Jimmy of Macon, Chris Kirksey and husband David of Butler; brother and sister-in-law, Randy Hunter and wife Sandra of Cochran; half-sister, Samantha McCullough and husband Ronnie of Luthersville, GA, Rebecca Young of Wetumpka, AL; half-brothers, Jeffrey Hunter and wife Rebecca of Greenville, GA, James Ray Hunter of Luthersville, GA; as well as several nieces and nephews.

obit for Mr. Walker

A.D. Walker of Covington, passed away February 15, 2017, at the age of 83. Mr. Walker went on active duty for the Army in January 1952; but was honorably discharged, due to injury, later that year. Mr. Walker attended Embry-Riddle School of Aviation, in Miami, FL, briefly, before going to work for Western Electric where he retired after 25 years of dedicated employment. During layoff periods with Western Electric, he worked as a firefighter, at Station 12 in Atlanta, and for Atlanta Gas Light. While employed with Western Electric, he served the Communications Workers of America - Local 3290 as Local President, Secretary-Treasurer, and State Representative. Additionally, Mr. Walker was elected and served one term as Newton County Commissioner in the late '70s. He went full-time with the International CWA, in 1983, for ten years. During these years, his work required him to move to North Carolina, New Jersey, Washington, DC, and Louisiana, before retiring in l993. After retiring, he was re-elected as Local 3290 President, in 1994, for two terms. In 2000, he began a ten-year career delivering cars for Enterprise Leasing. At the age of 77, Mr. Walker decided it was time to start enjoying retirement. One of the things he enjoyed most was cooking barbeque for The Baptist Tabernacle and school fundraisers. Not to be forgotten was his love for talking politics and telling stories. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Brooks; parents, Reginald and Nora (Rowland) Walker.

 

Survivors include his wife, Resa Walker; sons and daughter-in-law, Lee and Anne Walker, Scott Walker; son-in-law, Bobby Brooks, all of Covington; granddaughter, Michelle Chapman of West Virginia; great-grandchildren, Kayle Brooks, Caleb Brooks, Davey Chapman, Lillian Chapman.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Walker will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017, 12:00 Noon, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. David R. Moody officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with his family at the funeral home, Friday, February 17, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Walker's memory to The Baptist Tabernacle Building Fund, 10119 Access Road, Covington, GA 30014.

Andrew Jackson Griffith, Sr.

Andrew Jackson Griffith, Sr., of Eatonton, passed away February 14, 2017, at 79 years of age. Mr. Griffith worked for Newton County Public Works Department for more than 25 years.  His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, and cutting grass.  Mr. Griffith was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Leon and Grace (Starnes) Griffith; sister, Sue Ann Griffith.

 

Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 years, Carol Griffith; daughters and son-in-law, Tracy Harn of Covington, Cynthia and Gary McDuffie of Irwinton; sons, Andrew Griffith, Jr., of Covington, Michael Lee Griffith, also of Covington; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Charlotte Estes, Elaine and Gary Day, Ruby Smith; brother, Jimmy Griffith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Berry Franklin Ricks, Jr.

Berry Franklin Ricks, Jr., of Conyers passed away February 14, 2017, at 84 years of age.  Mr. Ricks enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, and spending family time around the dinner table.  In addition, he loved country music and family trips, especially to the Smokey Mountains.    Mr. Ricks never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest.  He will be greatly missed by family and friends who loved him dearly.  Mr. Ricks was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Irene Ricks; parents, Berry Franklin, Sr., and Tinnie Ruth Ricks; sister Bessie Austin.

James S. Robinson, Sr.

James Sharon Robinson, Sr., of Covington, passed away February 12, 2017, at the age of 70. Mr. Robinson was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. "Doc", as he was affectionately known by his fellow employees, was a dedicated truck driver for Old Dominion Freight Line, for more than 25 years, before then becoming a trainer. Additionally, Mr. Robinson was a devoted herbalist and practitioner in healing medicine and reflexology. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in his yard. Mr. Robinson will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Pearline (Thomas) Robinson; sister, Denise Robinson and his brother, Ronald Robinson.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Rachel Robinson; sons and daughter-in-law, Jamie Robinson, Ben and Lori Beth Robinson; grandchildren, Nathan, Lydia, Brody; and his nephew, Ron Robinson.

Hazel Moore Beckworth

Hazel Moore Beckworth of Conyers, passed away February 13, 2017, at 91 years of age.

Mrs. Beckworth was a 50-year resident of Conyers, and a founding member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She served the public for over 15 years in the Rockdale Hospital cafeteria. Mrs. Beckworth was very involved in Bible Study Fellowship at First Baptist Church of Conyers. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Beckworkth was preceded in death by her parents, Carroll Augustus and Odessa Loma (Wiggins) Moore; four brothers; three sisters.

 

Survivors include her daughters, Gladys Hillis of Sikeston, MO, Shirley Beasley of Sautee, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Ronny and Kim Beckworth of Social Circle, GA; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandsons; brother and sister-in-law, Edd and Glenda Moore of Warner Robbins, GA; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Ed Flanagan.

Angie Giambra of Conyers, passed away February 11, 2017, at 59 years of age.  Although Angie was mentally challenged, she will be remembered as a kind, sweet, and loving person.  She was preceded in death by her father, Libario Giambra.

Barbara Elizabeth Hood of Lawrenceville, passed away February 7, 2017, at the age of 74. Mrs. Hood was a 1960 graduate of Model High School in Rome, Georgia. She worked for Bibb Manufacturing in Porterdale before later retiring from Beaver Manufacturing. In addition to being a devoted mother, she loved to play bingo, listen to traditional country music, and enjoyed reading. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Willingham; father, James T. Conner; brother, Eugene Conner.

Mary Holmes of Newborn, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the age of 87. Mrs. Holmes, a member of the Baptist faith, was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a big fan of watching her great-grandchildren play baseball and football. When not working in her yard, Mrs. Holmes could be found baking cakes - most notably, peanut butter and red velvet.

 

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Walter Sikes; second husband, James Melvin Holmes; parents, William Franklin and Annie (Barron) Walker; sister, Mildred Holmes; brothers, J.W. Walker, Henry Walker, Bobby Walker.

Obit - Anthony (Tony) Grizzard

Anthony Keith (Tony) Grizzard, age 34, of Conyers, passed away February 1, 2017. Tony was a 2009 graduate of American Intercontinental University where he obtained his degree in General Information Technology. He was a dedicated and admired employee of Acuity Brands, in Conyers, since 2011. He loved music and especially enjoyed attending heavy metal concerts. Jovial by nature, Tony never met a stranger. Once a friend of his - you were friends for life. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

 

Survivors include his mother, Brenda Grizzard of Eatonton; father and step-mother, Richard and Kathy Grizzard of Conyers; maternal grandmother, Pauline Cox of Eatonton; brother, Jesse Ryan Grizzard of Conyers; girlfriend, Sabrina Danehey of Conyers; and his step-sisters, Sara Giglio of New Jersey, Leigha Giglio of Conyers, Samantha Giglio of New Jersey.

 

Funeral Services for Tony will be held Monday, February 6, 2017, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor   Danny Harrell officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, February 5, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM. obit for Mrs. Sears

Mary Ann Sears of Covington, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at the age of 76. A loving mother and grandmother, spending time with family was her greatest joy. Mrs. Sears enjoyed being outdoors, whether fishing on the lake or going to the mountains. Additionally, she liked traveling and shopping. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Mason Sears, Jr.; parents, James Otto and Jeanette Helen (Dalton) Jones.

 

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Becky Rodewig of Covington, Teresa  McCullough and Tim Stephens of Madison, Karen and Greg Sellers of Social Circle; sons, Cliffton Sears, Randy Sears, both of Covington; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Mary Jones of Warren NC; grandchildren, Brittany and John Bennett, Tyler Sears, James and Cheryl  Rodewig, Brett and Amanda Rodewig, Joey and Chastity Sellers, Mandy and Bryant Hubert, Blake Sears; great-grandchildren, Fletcher and Addie Rodewig, Waylon and Lacy Sellers, Quinn Bennett; several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Sears will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017, 1:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor J.B. Leachman officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with her family at the funeral home Saturday, two hours prior to her service, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
