Ray Cofer, age 95, of Newborn, passed away December 13, 2017. Mr. Cofer, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, proudly served his country during World War II. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of dedicated employment. Mr. Cofer was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, in Tucker, and most recently attended Shiloh Baptist, in Newborn, while his health permitted. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter, always had a vegetable garden and devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Preceding him in death were his first wife, Helen Cofer; second wife, Jackie Cofer; and his parents, W. Lawson and Kate (Dickens) Cofer.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Elaine and John Deaton of Eatonton, Joan Smith of Matthews, NC, John and Brenda Cofer of Flowood, MS, Sharon Cooper of Florida, Mike and Stephanie Cooper of Newborn; grandchildren, John Deaton, Donna Haney, Dana Seale, Amy Brown, Elisabeth Lee, Jennifer Cofer, Paul Cofer, Stephen Cofer, Wade Smith, Amanda Smith, James Cooper, DeeAnn Kendrick, Elizabeth Cooper; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Cofer of Norcross; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Cofer will be held Sunday, December 17, 2017, 1:30 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. John Cofer and Pastor Danny Sorrells officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery, in Tucker. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, December 16, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM.
