Roger Dale Gossage of Covington, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the age of 71. Through the years he amazed his friends with his intelligence, knowledge of the law, and insurance. When Roger worked at Lockheed-Martin, he was known by his fellow union members as "the insurance guru". Some even referred to him as their "Lockheed attorney". He was on the negotiating board at Lockheed and helped negotiate the contract every 3 years, especially the insurance section. Roger was always there for whoever needed his help. He fought for the rights of those he felt were not being treated fairly by employers. Later, Roger became a Certified Senior Advisor, so he could fight battles for the elderly. He saw to it that their rights were protected as they entered their golden years. He was a born negotiator. He was also a member of the Newton Rockdale Regional Senior Providers Network.
Roger was very active in his community. He was a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, serving on the small business committee, ambassador, and he was a founding member of the buy local committee. Roger was very passionate about buying local to keep tax dollars in the community. He was also a member of the NAIFA, serving as president of the Walton/Newton Chapter. He has volunteered with Main Street and provided assistance to many organizations. He helped bring the crosswalks back to the square downtown and at the shopping center from Pace Street.
Most of all Roger was a people person. Whether joking around, making people laugh or loving his family. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Debbie Gossage of Covington; daughters and sons-in-law; Brandy Belinda Gossage of Norcross, Carroll and David Moss of Social Circle, Holly Kaas and Brian Deal of Covington; grandchildren Emily Moss Stoddard and husband, Nick, Sarah Grace Moss, Henry Kaas, Harrison Kaas; sisters-in-law, Emma Bowen, Sharon Wallace; brother-in-law, Leon Long; several nieces and nephews; as well as his beloved cat, Coco.
