obit for Gail Waller

Gail Waller, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at 77 years of age. Though Mrs. Waller was a vital and supportive member of First Baptist Church of Covington, she had a strong belief in people choosing for themselves where they attended worship. Working with her hands and being creatively minded, her many hobbies expanded on her artistic talents. Mrs. Waller enjoyed crafting, painting, and gardening, and she had an eye for detailed and meticulous work. She liked to put together scale models of churches and colonial architecture, as well as sewing costumes for her grandchildren – princess, cowboys, and superhero outfits, just to name a few. A genuine soul who had an endless capacity to care for others, she excelled in her chosen field of nursing, and was even awarded the Outstanding Senior Student Nursing Award from Macon Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Waller showed her love in many ways, and one of her most memorable displays of affection was always cooking something special for each of her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Waller; and parents, James and Joan (Read) Atwater.

Mrs. Waller's memory will remain with all who loved and cherished her, especially her husband of 55 years, Mike Waller; daughters and son-in-law, Dana and Paul Green, Kelley Green; grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Green, Hannah and Quin Pitts, Andrew and Kayla Green, Taylor and Russell Sloss, Parker Green, Emily Green, Noah Green, Shelley Green, Kailey Green, Ethan Green, Deacon Green, Levi Green; great-grandchildren, Aliyah Green, Anna Grace Green, Harper Pitts, Alivia Green; as well as her beloved dog, Kate.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Waller will be held Saturday, December 7, 2019, 11:00 A.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Cody McNutt officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home, one hour prior to her service, from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Flowers are accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
