Samuel Franz-Joseph Rocker, 65, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 10th, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 28th, 1954 in Atlanta to Samuel Andrew Rocker and Genevieve (Falanga) Rocker and was a resident of Covington at the time of his passing.
He was preceded in passing by his parents and his uncle James Rocker. He is survived by his wife, the love-of-his life, Sukum Rocker with whom he spent 39 blissful years. They were married on October 23, 1980 and enjoyed life together in Korea, California, Arkansas, Colorado, Atlanta, and for the past 28 years have been active members of the community in Covington.
He is also survived by his children Samuel (Rachel) Rocker and Joshua Rocker. He was the proud grandfather of one grandchild, Genevieve, and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of another grandchild in the spring.
He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in chemical engineering in 1978. He commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 1978. He served in the United States Army for 8 years. After serving his country, he returned to the Georgia Institute of Technology to obtain his master's degree in environmental engineering in 1989. He served his nation until his retirement working as an environmental engineer at Warner Robbins Air Force Base for 20 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending church, studying history, and was an avid numismatist.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 14th at 11 am at Belmont Baptist Church, 3275 Iris Drive, in Conyers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Belmont Baptist Church in honor of Samuel F. Rocker.
