James T. "Jimmy" Williams, of Oxford, passed away Friday, April 10, 2020, at the age of 84. Mr. Williams was a resident of Oxford for over fifty years before health concerns required him, and his wife, Martha, to relocate with family. He was a graduate of Berry College, in Rome, GA, and a vital and integral member of the Covington Lions Club where he served in all elected offices during his membership, in excess of fifty years. Mr. Williams was recognized by the State Lions of Georgia as an Outstanding Club Secretary and served several terms as Secretary of Lions of Georgia Multiple Districts. He was honorably elected to the Georgia State Lions Hall of Fame, as well as being named a Melvin Jones Fellow, and was nominated as the local Club Lion of the Year. Additionally, he received numerous Lion local and international awards. He was a Strong Lion in the Covington Lions Club and the State of Georgia. Mr. Williams epitomized the motto of the Lions Club, "We Serve". Outside of his club duties, Mr. Williams was well-versed in the interesting world of beekeeping. His endeavors as a beekeeper yielded delicious honey that he would share, and oftentimes, his skills were called upon to conduct beehive removals. In keeping with his outdoor interests, Mr. Williams was an avid gardener who graciously gave his homegrown vegetables to neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Mary Lou (Hayes) Williams.
