Mildred Louise (Rogers) Woodall, of Alpharetta, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020, at the age of 93. A devoted member of Prospect United Methodist Church, Mrs. Woodall was, by all accounts, the epitome of a loving woman. She viewed the world through an optimistic and cheerful lens – giving of herself without any expectations. She had a way of putting people at ease and sensing who needed support and nurturing – this made her like a "second mother" to many. As a successful salesperson at Haverty's Furniture, her work ethic garnered praise from her supervisor. He often said he would like to have everyone be a "Mildred"! Another claim to fame was her sense of style, impeccably dressed from head to toe, with every hair in place, and her trademark red lipstick. Mrs. Woodall was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Woodall; parents, John Wesley and Sarah Jane (Tweedell) Rogers; and sister, Mary Jane (Rogers) Woodruff.

The beauty and wonder of Mrs. Woodall has left a lasting impression in the lives of her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Johnny Simms; grandchildren, Richard and Laura Simms, Wesley and Ashley Simms; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Sean, Erin, Kyle, Brianna, Caitlyn, Abigail, Audrey; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Guy Drake; grandchildren, Angela and John Davis; great-grandchildren, Jason and Crystal Seboe, Chandler and Sydney Mulcahy, Zachery Mulcahy, Gunnar Davis; great-great-grandchildren, Todd, Mason, Breanna, Ace; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Craig Bettilyon; grandchildren, Joseph Ryan Simms, Melinda and Roberto Ortiz, Melissa and Brian Pfiel; great-grandchildren, Chelsey, Angel, Isaac, Joseph, Jacob; great-great-grandchild, Gohan.

Betty Ellis

Betty S. Ellis went to Heaven on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the age of 93.  She had a wonderful life for 68 years with her dear husband, Charles.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 2004, and her son, Paul in 2017.

For the last 60 years Betty had lived in Covington, but was born in Tucker, Georgia, to Paul and Carrie Singleton.  She grew up there with two brothers, Harold and Sonny, and two sisters, Dot and Marie.  All have gone to be with the Lord except Marie.

Betty was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Stone Mountain.  For several years she was unable to attend services, so she went to church with Dr. Charles Stanley on TV.  Betty worked for Gates Rubber Company and Bell South in her early years of marriage, but for the rest of her life, she was a home maker, keeping a spotless house, cooking delicious dinners, with chicken and dumplings being a family favorite – and always homemade biscuits. Betty loved her family well and was well loved!  Spending time with her grands and great-grandchildren was the best of times.  Fifteen months ago, she was blessed to become a great-great-grandmother!

Left behind to carry on her legacy and cherish sweet memories are her daughter-in-law, Nancy Ellis (Paul's wife); son, David Ellis and his wife Elaine; grandchildren, Dawn and Joseph Pettit, Jason Ellis, Tiffany and Bobby Ray, Nick and Ashley Ellis; great-grandchildren, Ilyssa and Nick Green, Drayton Ellis, Kaiden Ellis, Jaxon Ray, Camden Ray, Sadie Ray, Maison Ellis; great-great-grandson, Pace Green; sister, Marie Updike; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Ellis will be held Sunday, December 20, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Cody McNutt officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with her family at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM.

obit - Freddie Pfeiffer

Freddie Pfeiffer, of Newborn, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the age of 68. In a seamless connection between work and passions, Freddie earned a living in the automotive industry and he was a classic car enthusiast. As he pursued a side venture in the restaurant business, he once owned and operated the Pony Express Diner in Mansfield. All things paled in comparison, though, to his true calling in life – a family man. As a foster parent for 21 years, Freddie provided a home for 197 children, adopting 3 of the children as his own. In the hearts of his friends and family, he was considered as jolly in nature and quick to smile. Freddie was preceded in death by his mother, Lounette "Sug" Bishop; father, Fredrick Coleman Pfeiffer; brothers, Glenn Bishop, Dickie Pfeiffer, in addition to infant twin brothers, Jerry and Jim Pfeiffer.

Left to remember Freddie with affection is his wife of 48 years, Betty Pfeiffer; daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Rodney Jeffares, Kimberly Holcombe, Tiffany and Michael Anderson, Summer and Eric Blackwell; sons, Scott Pfeiffer, Chris Pfeiffer, David Pfeiffer; grandchildren and spouses, David, Cheyanne and Alan, Ryan, Bill, Chase and LeeAnn, Tom, Pasy, Fred "Storm", Conner, Makalia, McKenzie; great-grandchildren, Mason, Memphis (soon-to-be); sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Harold Huff, Emma Price, Leisa and Keith Howell; brother and sister-in-law, Adrian and Michelle Bishop; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Freddie are pending and will be announced as soon as that information is available.

Elizabeth "Betsy" Boden McGehee

Elizabeth "Betsy" Boden McGehee, 81, a woman of quick wit, sharp tongue and generous spirit, died peacefully of complications from covid-19 and COPD at her home at The Oaks at Ashton Hills in Covington, Ga., on Dec. 6, 2020.

Betsy was born to Elizabeth Hathhorn Boden and William Tenent Boden Jr. on Sept. 22, 1939, in Louisville, Ky. She attended National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C. and Atherton High School in Louisville. She attended Northwestern University and graduated from Transylvania University in 1961 with concentrations in English and history.

It was at Transylvania that she met her future husband, Larry Thomas McGehee. Throughout their marriage, they were equal partners, and she was a "right hand" to him in his work as a college administrator and professor at the University of Alabama, the University of Tennessee-Martin, the University of Tennessee system and Wofford College.

They spent the first years of married life in New Haven, Conn., where Larry completed graduate studies at Yale University and she taught high school. Later in life, Betsy worked part time in the mayor's office in Knoxville, Tenn., and at the Music Foundation of Spartanburg, S.C. She volunteered in numerous capacities everywhere she lived, including as a Girl Scout troop leader and candy striper.

She had a deep appreciation for learning and was a voracious reader, which led to a 3-day run on "Jeopardy!" in 1965, when she was pregnant with her first daughter, Elizabeth. The money she won helped pay the hospital bill when Elizabeth was born. One of her favorite activities was working the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper. She was famous for her beautifully written, engaging correspondence.

As expansive as her mind was her talent. She was crafty long before crafts were cool--an impressive needlepointer, calligrapher, decorator--and she made every Christmas magical. Mamoo, as she was also known, loved sending books to her favorite (and only) grandson.

Betsy was also a study in contrasts. She had a perfect sense of style, taste, manners and decorum, but also was fiery, independent, strong, and sometimes downright crass — and she reared her two daughters in that mold. She was also their fiercest advocate, supporter, and PR manager.

If you needed advice, Betsy was a straight shooter. In fact, so many people came to her for an ear or support over the years that she used to joke that she had a sign on her forehead saying "Talk to Me."

A lifelong Democrat, she was finally able to make her vote count, in Georgia, in the 2020 election.

Betsy is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Washington, D.C.), daughter Molly, son-in-law Daniel Parson, and grandson Benjamin Hathhorn Parson (Oxford, Ga.), sister-in-law Neda Triplett and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, and two sisters-in-law.

Betsy's family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to her many friends, the caregivers at The Oaks and the staff at Southern Grace Hospice who made her final year and days peaceful and happy.

A memorial service is not scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elizabeth B. and Larry T. McGehee Endowed Scholarship Fund at Wofford College or to the Transylvania University Development Office.

This obituary was prepared with love and affection by Mrs. McGehee's family.
