JoAnn Preston, of Covington, passed away Friday, November 27, 2020, at the age of 79. JoAnn was born and raised in Porterdale and graduated from Newton County High School, Class of 1959. JoAnn retired from Newton County School System where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper, first at Sharp Middle School and then at Clements Middle School. She was a faithful member of Porterdale Baptist Church.
JoAnn married the love of her life, Jim (Jimmy) Preston and they were married for more 57 years. JoAnn had many roles in life but none more precious than being Mom and Meme. She loved her children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She taught them many life lessons: to love God, to love and care for family, to work hard for what you want, to be a good friend, and to love others unselfishly. JoAnn taught by example to care for those in need. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Daniel Preston, Sr.; parents, Joseph Avery Favero and Dorothy Mae Savage; and sister, Louise Mathis.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy and Derek Whitsitt, Tracy and Jim Shields, Jackie and Rusty Hart; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Denise Preston; grandchildren and their spouses, Morgan Whitsitt, Madison Whitsitt, Joanna and Edwin Stanislawski, Andrew Shields, Christy and Brent Bellman, Daniel Preston, III, Greg Preston, Holly and Charlie Beaubien, Johnny Heintschel, Matthew and Brooke Hart; great-grandchildren, Harrison Stanislawski, Natalie Stanislawski, Rileigh Cargile, Addison Bellman, William Bellman, Lucas Hart, Henry Beaubien, Hattie Beaubien; sisters, Judy Freeman, Lynn Favero, Mary Jo Weber; brothers, Ronald Savage, Mel Savage, Jeff Savage; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mrs. Preston will be held at a later date.
