Betty S. Ellis went to Heaven on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the age of 93. She had a wonderful life for 68 years with her dear husband, Charles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 2004, and her son, Paul in 2017.
For the last 60 years Betty had lived in Covington, but was born in Tucker, Georgia, to Paul and Carrie Singleton. She grew up there with two brothers, Harold and Sonny, and two sisters, Dot and Marie. All have gone to be with the Lord except Marie.
Betty was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Stone Mountain. For several years she was unable to attend services, so she went to church with Dr. Charles Stanley on TV. Betty worked for Gates Rubber Company and Bell South in her early years of marriage, but for the rest of her life, she was a home maker, keeping a spotless house, cooking delicious dinners, with chicken and dumplings being a family favorite – and always homemade biscuits. Betty loved her family well and was well loved! Spending time with her grands and great-grandchildren was the best of times. Fifteen months ago, she was blessed to become a great-great-grandmother!
Left behind to carry on her legacy and cherish sweet memories are her daughter-in-law, Nancy Ellis (Paul's wife); son, David Ellis and his wife Elaine; grandchildren, Dawn and Joseph Pettit, Jason Ellis, Tiffany and Bobby Ray, Nick and Ashley Ellis; great-grandchildren, Ilyssa and Nick Green, Drayton Ellis, Kaiden Ellis, Jaxon Ray, Camden Ray, Sadie Ray, Maison Ellis; great-great-grandson, Pace Green; sister, Marie Updike; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Ellis will be held Sunday, December 20, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Cody McNutt officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with her family at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM.
