Rita Labowicz
Rita Labowicz passed away July 29, 2012, at her home in Covington. She was 56 years of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Labowicz was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Betty Hinman, and a brother, Joseph Hunt. She loved to spend time with her grandson, Christopher. She also enjoyed spending time with her dogs, Nina and Daphne, and shopping.
Mrs. Labowicz is survived by her husband, Vincent Labowicz of Covington; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Paige Labowicz of Monroe; grandson, Christopher Paul Labowicz, Jr; sister-in-law, Tina Hinman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; step-sister, Linda Lluis of Hollywood, FL; as well as Labowicz family members in Trenton, NJ.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Labowicz will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, August 5, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, two hours prior to the service, from 12 Noon until 2:00 P.M. Flowers are accepted or donations can be made to the Labowicz Family.

Linda Hammonds Baker of Monticello passed away July 16, 2012 at Sylvan Grove Hospital in Jackson. She was 61 years of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents, Horace Franklin and Sara Frances (Wilson) Hammonds. She loved gardening, animals, camping, and fishing. Mrs. Baker will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to many.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Fay and John Austin, granddaughter, Holly Candace Ellington and Andrew Patrick, great-grandchildren, Evan Alexander Patrick and Madison Grace Patrick, all of Monticello; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Roy Bond of Conyers, Amelia and Eddie Dutton of Milner, Robin and William Owensby of Barnesville; aunts, Sertia Skelton and Ruth Richardson, both of Conyers; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Doris Mayo of Covington, passed away July 22, 2012, at the age of 87. She enjoyed playing Bingo and the Lotto; and enjoyed fishing, watching the Braves, and going to the casino. Mrs. Mayo was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Mayo; and her parents, Jessie Grace and Pearl Lena (Biffle) Harris.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Sue Kendall, Jerry and Lisa Kendall, all of Covington; 7 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Homer Biffle of Lithonia; brother, James Harris of California.

Hazel Simons of Oxford, passed away July 22, 2012, at the age of 92. She retired after 35 years of service at Oxford Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Simons enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling, and cooking. She was a member of Gum Creek Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in many church activities including the Gum Creek Golden Group. Mrs. Simons is preceded in death by her husband, George Day Simons; and parents Golden and Alice (Cochran) Coker.
Mrs. Simons is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Bobby Reagan; grandchildren, Steve and Wanda Reagan, Mark and Lynda Reagan, all of Oxford; great grandchildren, Jacob Reagan, Stephanie Reagan, Courtney Reagan and Hannah Reagan; several nieces and nephews.

Obit - Winston Rachels
Winston Rachels of Covington, passed away July 20, 2012, at the age of 84. As a veteran of the United States Air Force, he proudly served his country during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church, in Covington, where he was also active with the senior adult group, the "3 R's". In addition, he was member of the American Legion Post #32, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1806, and the Covington Lion's Club. He was a residential building contractor for many years, and an over the road truck driver for Madison Industries. He enjoyed fresh water fishing, deer hunting, and scuba diving. He loved children, and especially enjoyed watching little league baseball. Mr. Rachels was preceded in death by his son, Wiley Rachels; parents, Wiley and Gertie (Ivey) Rachels; and his sisters, Bonnie Andrews and Annette Davis.

Obit - Ruben O'Kelley
Ruben O'Kelley of Covington died July 18, 2012. He was 82 years of age at the time of his death. Mr. O'Kelley was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Odie (Bowen) O'Kelley. A lifelong resident of Newton County, Mr. O'Kelley was a member and former Elder of Christ Cornerstone Church. He was an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldog fan. He was employed at Gordon Foods for 20 years. After Gordon Foods closed he became the owner of O'Kelley's Gulf Oil Station from 1972-1986, and was later employed at Newton County Board of Education Transportation Department for 10 years. Mr. O'Kelley will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.
Mr. O'Kelley is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bobbye C. O'Kelley; daughters, Theresa O'Kelley of Covington, Karen O'Kelley of Conyers, and Jill Knight of Covington; sisters, Louise Duke of Gainesville, Lois Watts of Covington; brother, Raymond O'Kelley of California; grandchildren, Jacob Knight and Kelli Knight of Covington, several nieces and nephews.

Obit - Raymond Mitchell
Raymond Mitchell of Covington, passed away July 16, 2012, at the age of 88. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served his country during World War II. Mr. Mitchell participated in action against the enemy at Peleliu, Palau Group, was among the first to land at Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands, and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received at Okinawa. He was a member of Sewell United Methodist Church. Mr. Mitchell was employed by C&D Batteries for 20 years, before retiring from Golden State Foods. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; and was a surrogate father to many children. To know him was to love him. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his son, Gary Mitchell; parents, Roy and Annie (Polson) Mitchell; brother, Charlie Mitchell; and sister, Flossie Dick.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 66 years, Dorothy (Lunsford) Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Sherryl Mitchell; sister, Aileen Collins, all of Covington; grandchildren, Christie Mitchell Phillips, Donald Raymond Mitchell and his wife, Robin; 2 great-granddaughters, Kennedy Phillips, Morgan Phillips; several nieces and nephews.

Obit - Kathryn House
Kathryn Reeves House, RN, of Covington, passed away July 11, 2012, at the age of 79. Miss House was a 1950 graduate of Newton County High School, and a 1953 graduate of Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing. She was one of the first registered nurses for Newton County Hospital when it opened. She later went to work for Dr. E.J. Callaway, and was his nurse for 37 years, until retirement. Miss House was an active member of North Covington United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 39 years and also held several offices within the church. For many years, she was the southeastern Fan Club Representative for her dear friend, Bill Anderson. In years past, she was a member of many civic organizations and Nurse's Associations. In addition to caring for people professionally, she often provided hope and encouragement through her card ministry. Many people have been blessed by receiving a card from her. Although she never married, and had no children of her own, she was like a mother to many. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Miss House was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Luther and Margaret Almeda (Johnson) House; brothers and sister-in-law, Ben Harold House, Daniel William and Myrtle B. House; great-niece, Emily Susanne Gregory; great-nephews, Danny Black, Will Gregory.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many.

OBITUARY:
Charles B. (Cotton) Moss of Covington, passed away July 6, 2012, at the age of 78. Cotton was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country in Korea. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, and the Ma & Pa's Opry Band. Cotton loved country and bluegrass music, and played many string instruments himself. He was an avid Braves fan, and enjoyed NASCAR and spending time outdoors. Cotton was a devoted family man; and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Stella (Barker) Moss; and his brother, Doug Moss.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Cookie Moss; children and their spouses, Terry Moss of Rutledge, Tim and Lynda Moss, Todd and Susan Moss, all of Covington; Tonya and Randy Hallford of Oxford; grandchildren, Kati (Moss) and Casey Rider, Christopher Moss, Abigail Moss, Rebecca Moss, Andrew Hallford, Caroline Hallford, Tristan Moss.
Funeral Services for Cotton will be held Sunday, July 8, 2012, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Mike Wadley, Rev. Jeff Hegwood, and Allen Lemonds officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, July 7, from 5:00-8:00 PM. Runell Pinion of Stockbridge, passed away July 3, 2012, at the age of 81. She enjoyed sewing, camping, and traveling with her friends. Mrs. Pinion loved going to church and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Edward Pinion; daughter, Patricia Pinion; granddaughter, Chandra McNally; great-granddaughter, Melissa McNally; parents, Robert and Ola Wilson.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Nancy Pinion of Stockbridge, Kenneth and Terrie Pinion of Oxford; daughters and son-in-law, Sherry and Jerry Reeves of Conyers, Pamela Pinion, Paula Pinion, both of Stockbridge; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Kathleen Johnson of Covington; several nieces and nephews.
