Obit - Kathryn House

Kathryn Reeves House, RN, of Covington, passed away July 11, 2012, at the age of 79. Miss House was a 1950 graduate of Newton County High School, and a 1953 graduate of Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing.  She was one of the first registered nurses for Newton County Hospital when it opened.  She later went to work for Dr. E.J. Callaway, and was his nurse for 37 years, until retirement.  Miss House was an active member of North Covington United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 39 years and also held several offices within the church.  For many years, she was the southeastern Fan Club Representative for her dear friend, Bill Anderson. In years past, she was a member of many civic organizations and Nurse's Associations. In addition to caring for people professionally, she often provided hope and encouragement through her card ministry.  Many people have been blessed by receiving a card from her.  Although she never married, and had no children of her own, she was like a mother to many.  She will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Miss House was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Luther and Margaret Almeda (Johnson) House; brothers and sister-in-law, Ben Harold House, Daniel William and Myrtle B. House; great-niece, Emily Susanne Gregory; great-nephews, Danny Black, Will Gregory.

 

Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Martha Jane and Bruce Durand of Porterdale; brother and sister- in-law, Donald and Nickie House of Jasper, GA; nieces and nephew, Jo Carol Black, Lynn and her husband, Bob Gregory, Susan Hess, Terri and her husband, Russell Barksdale, Lee and his wife, Jamie House, Beth House, Julie and her husband, Barry Chupp, Leslie and her husband, Chris Moss; several great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Miss House will be held Saturday, July 14, 2012, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Mike Bell and Rev. Dan Dixon officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, July 13, from 6:00-9:00 PM. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to North Covington United Methodist Church – Stained Glass Window Restoration Fund, 5138 Emory Street NW, Covington, GA 30014.
