Obit: James Alonzo Alexander, Sr.

Mr. James Alonzo Alexander, Sr., 77, of Conyers, Georgia, departed this life unexpectedly Friday, June 14, 2013 at Piedmont Hospital.  Jim was a great leader, businessman, husband, father, and friend.  For 42 years he was in the insurance business and founded Alexander Underwriters General Agency in 1974.  He later formed two insurance companies.  Jim made many friends in the insurance business over the years.  He retired in 1997 to enjoy traveling with friends and family.  He enjoyed fishing, boating and playing tennis.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Dallas and Lanelle Alexander; and his brother, Milton B. Alexander.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Farris A. Alexander of Conyers; daughter and son-in law, Melissa D. and Matthew Goglia of Conyers; sons and daughters-in-law, James, Jr. and Sandie Alexander of Conyers, William A. and April Alexander of Lilburn, Gary P. and Martha Alexander of Big Canoe, GA; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, C. Glenn and Belle Alexander of Norcross; sister-in-law, Nancy Alexander of Birmingham, AL.

 

Funeral Services for Jim will be held Monday, June 17, 2013, 11:00 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Jack Westlund officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, June 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
