Patricia Garrett Haymore was born August 18, 1937 to George Coleman Garrett, Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Garrett at her family's home in Warrenton, Georgia. Pat enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in a small town where everyone knew you and your family. She was a cheerleader, played basketball and tennis, and sang solo and in the trio at literary events. She graduated from Warrenton High School in 1955. Pat attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and completed her matriculation at Georgia Teacher's College in 1959, the same year that it became Georgia Southern College. She graduated with a BA degree in music education. Upon her return to Warrenton, Pat worked with the Warren County Music Club and in Thomson, Georgia for the attorney, Randall Evans until she secured a teaching position in Columbia County where she taught for three years and where she met and married Perry Britten Haymore. Pat and Perry and their two sons, George David and Christopher Britten, returned to Covington, Georgia, Perry's hometown, in 1967. She lived in Covington until her death. Pat taught in the Newton county school system as a chorus director at Newton County High School and Sharp Middle School. She created and built the first chorus at Newton County High School. Her groups consistently received superior ratings at chorus festivals, and many students were selected to All State Chorus. Pat enjoyed teaching and seeing her students excel in their musical endeavors. Her greatest gift was her ability to extract the best from her students. She was highly respected throughout the state for her contributions to her profession serving as the 10th District Director of the Georgia Music Educators Association. Pat was very active in her church, First United Methodist of Covington, where she served many years as the choir director. She was also extremely active in the Sergeant Newton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served two terms as the Regent of the Chapter.
