Barbara Curtis DuPlessis was born April 13, 1931 in Wrentham Massachusetts, to the late Perry E. and Maryann Jassamine (Smith) Curtis. After a long illness, she passed away July 26, 2014 in Social Circle, GA, where the staff of the Mews of Social Circle and the Homestead Hospice team provided wonderful care. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Edouard Richard DuPlessis; daughter, Kim DuPlessis; granddaughter, Errin Vuley; and sister, Geraldine Curtis.
Barbara graduated in 1948 from Foxboro High School in Massachusetts, then attended Ricker College in Houlton, ME, where she met Edouard Richard DuPlessis of Bucksport, ME. In 1952 she and her family moved to West Suffield, CT where they lived for 10 years. They returned to Maine in 1962 and lived in Island Falls, and later East Millinocket, until 1968, when they moved to Essex Junction, VT. In 1977 they moved to Denver, NC on Lake Norman. Barbara returned to Essex Junction to be close to her family after the death of her husband "Eddie" in 1980. She enjoyed many wonderful years in Port St. Lucie, FL, where she reconnected with old friends and made many new ones before moving to Covington, GA in 2011.
Barbara had a long history of service to others. She worked for the Vermont Nursing Association, Vermont Transit Tours, and at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington. She was a volunteer at Port St. Lucie Medical Center in Florida. Barbara was an outgoing people-oriented person, and this was reflected in her work in Welcome Wagon, sales, volunteerism, and as a caregiver for the elderly. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved traveling; but, most importantly, she loved spending time with her family.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Lynne duPlessis Masi and her husband Gary Masi, of Loris, SC, Merry DuPlessis Vuley and her husband Arthur L. Vuley of Covington, GA, Joy duPlessis of Washington, DC; son, Arthur Perry DuPlessis and his wife Janine Fuller DuPlessis of Key West, FL; grandchildren, Elizabeth Leone of San Francisco, CA, Alyson Vuley of Stone Mountain, GA and her husband Walter Contrearas of Costa Rica, Emily Natalia Vuley of Atlanta, GA, Ethan Vuley and his wife Monica Lewis Vuley of Atlanta, GA, Jaxon Edward DuPlessis of Key West, FL; great-grandchildren, Julien Lundh and Maya Leone of San Francisco, CA, Oliver Vuley-Conlon and Sebastian Vuley-Conlon of Stone Mountain, GA, and Leo Logan Vuley of Atlanta, GA.
