Mrs. Dodson was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved unconditionally, and she was loved and admired by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She enjoyed children and was always happiest when she was with her family especially her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dodson was also a woman of faith. She loved God and was a member of Jersey Holiness Church for over 40 years. Mrs. Dodson's greatest desire was for her family to love God and to love each other. A seamstress by trade, she worked for Arrow Shirts for many years and retired from Belk Department Store after over 20 years of service doing alterations. After retirement, she continued doing alterations from her home. She was an excellent seamstress and charged a reasonable price, so she had a large clientele. She considered each and every person who walked through her door, her friend. An amazing cook, she would prepare Thanksgiving Dinner every year for her entire family, and that was no easy task. According to her family, "Nothing tastes as good as Grandma's." She was known for her fabulous Red Velvet and German Chocolate cakes. In the last years of her life, she suffered from Alzheimer's disease and was a resident of Riverside Healthcare Center. Even with this devastating disease, she continued to bless everyone who crossed her path. Staff and residents of Riverside loved her. Mrs. Dodson was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Dodson; sons, LCP David Paul Dodson, James "Jimmy" Monroe Dodson; son-in-law, SSG (Ret) Jerry G. Barfield; great-granddaughter, Abigail "Abbi" Lynn Dooley; parents, Samuel and Etha Ann Wadsworth.
