Linda Uhlig obit

Linda Diane (Olsen) Uhlig of Covington passed away November 8, 2015, at the age of 56. Linda's valiant fight with Lymphoma Cancer started in 2013 and resumed in September of 2015. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters carried her through months of grueling chemotherapy.

Linda was born June 30, 1959, in Brooklyn, NY, the second oldest child of Richard and Sylvia Olsen. Known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, some may be surprised to learn of the extreme shyness of her youth. Yet even as a child, she possessed a contagious smile, laugh and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life, she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many.

She attended Morris Knolls High School in Denville, NJ, where she participated in the Marching Band and graduated in 1977. Linda went to college and worked at Sandoz for six years. Linda married Terry Zmuda which blessed her with her daughter, Alissa. She then married her lifetime sweetheart, Walter Uhlig, in 1987. They had two boys and moved from New Jersey to Covington, GA.

Married for 28 years, Linda and Walt raised three dear children, Alissa, Matthew and Kevin. With a real zest for life and dedication to her children, Linda volunteered over eight years at Newton High School JROTC, coordinating Toys for Tots and the Marine Corps Balls.

Linda worked at General Mills in Covington for 14 years, as a Human Resources Assistant ensuring employees were paid correctly and received their proper benefits. She also was the main organizer of the semi-annual Red Cross Blood drives during her entire employment.

She loved to pray, write, read, bowl, play games and cards, especially with her grandchildren, chat with family and friends… just to name a few.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Walter Uhlig; children and their partners, Alissa and Doug Anglin, Matthew and Mel Uhlig and Kevin Uhlig; grandchildren, Liana Anglin and Sarah Anglin; father, Richard Olsen; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Joanne Olsen, Douglas and Lydia Olsen; too many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and God-children to list.

A Memorial Service for Linda will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2015, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road in Covington, with Dr. Adam Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, prior to the service, from 11:30 AM – 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Leukemia Society of Georgia, 3715 Northside Parkway, Building 400, Suite 300, Atlanta, GA 30327, or American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually.
