Fred M. Mahan, of Social Circle, passed away November 15, 2015, at the age of 92. Born in Harlon County, KY in 1923, Mr. Mahan moved to Frankfort, KY in 1932. In 1941 he enrolled in the University of Kentucky, then joined the U.S. Army in 1943 where he proudly served with the 759th Field Artillery in the United States and Europe until 1946. Mr. Mahan graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1947. In 1948 he went to work for Ross Heat Exchange, transferred to Detroit in 1951, and then to Atlanta in 1956. He started Mahan's Thermal Products in 1963, which is now located in Covington. Mr. Mahan married Martha Haydon, his second wife, in 1985. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Covington. Mr. Mahan was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Haydon Mahan; and an older brother, Tom Mahan.
Survivors include his son, James R. Mahan; daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Lee Letsinger, Mary Lynn Sylvester; step-sons, Alex Haydon, Jesse Haydon, Keith Haydon, and Leland Haydon.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Mahan will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015, 1:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Jan McCoy officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday, two hours prior to the service, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
