W.J. Lane

W.J. of Covington, passed away February 28, 2016 at the age of 85.  A member of High Point Baptist Church for 65 years, Mr. Lane served as a Deacon and became a Deacon Emeritus several years ago.  He owned and operated Lane Body Shop and Marine Services for almost 60 year, which is now operated by Mandy and R.J. Morgan, his granddaughter and her husband.  Mr. Lane was a man who loved his family and his church.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  Mr. Lane is preceded in death by his first wife, Jean McCart Lane, his second wife, Janet Smith Lane; grandson, Larry Stephen Vaughn; and his parents, Aaron Bryant and Mary (Nail) Lane. 

 

Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Lane Vaughn of Loganville; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Jennie Lane of Covington; step-children, Danny Ewing of Covington, Monica Lemoine of Oxford; grandchildren, Bill and Tracy Vaughn, Scott and Jennifer Lane, Tiffany Lane Allen and fiancé, Grant Loveless, Mandy and R.J. Morgan; step-grandchildren, Andrea Atwater, Robbie Ewing, Jodi Lattimore, Mandy Parks, Dara Penland, Britton Lemoine; brother, David Lane of Mansfield; nieces and nephew, Gayla Ellis, Tela Stewart, Kristy Farmer, and Brad Lane.

 

A Funeral Service for Mr. Lane will be held at High Point Baptist Church, 12025 Highway 36, Covington, GA, Wednesday, March 2, 2016, 11:00 AM, with Dr. David Marshall officiating.  Interment will follow in High Point Baptist Cemetery.  Friends are invited to join the family for visitation, Tuesday, March 1, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to High Point Baptist Church.

Richard Kelly

Richard Lewis Kelly of Covington passed away February 23, 2016, at the age of 88. Mr. Kelly was born October 26, 1927 in Marion, Indiana to the late Samuel and Vella Kelly. He worked in a local grocery store while attending Marion High School, where he graduated in 1946. Mr. Kelly joined the Navy and served most of his time on the USS Providence during the Korean War. He worked at RCA Tube Plant until he graduated from Purdue University in 1957, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He then started his teaching career in Flint Michigan where he taught for 5 years. Mr. Kelly moved to Aurora, Ohio after obtaining his Master of Arts Degree at the University of Michigan. In Aurora he was active in the Boy Scouts as his sons were growing up, served on the city council, and church council at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.  In addition he worked as an Industrial Arts Teacher at the Aurora Middle School until he retired. He and his wife, Kathryn, then moved to Covington, where he enjoyed woodworking and writing poetry. Mr. Kelly was a member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church in McDonough.

 

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Kathryn Mulligan Kelly; children and their spouses, Rosmarie Kelly, Ronald and Sandy Kelly, Karyn and Jeremy Pearson, Richard Samuel Kelly, Kevin and Robyn Kelly; sister, Roberta McDaniel; family friend, Helene Bourque Pallay.

 

A Graveside Service with military honors for Mr. Kelly will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016, 2:00 PM, at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road in Covington, with Father Rivero officiating. Friends are welcome to join the family immediately after the service for a wake. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Memorial Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

 

 

Charles Boss

Charles W. Boss of Covington, passed away February 25, 2016, at the age of 80. Mr. Boss was a veteran of the United States Army and also served in the National Guard. He was employed with Walton Clothes, and Kuppenheimer & Company, before retiring after 30 years of service. Mr. Boss was a member of Good Hope Christian Church, in Good Hope, Georgia. He loved his grandchildren dearly and always had building projects going on for them. He also enjoyed restoring classic cars. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernest and Lucille Hood Boss; siblings, Bobby Boss and Gereline Leachman.

 

Survivors include his devoted wife of 55 years, Virginia Knight Boss; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Mike French of Snellville, Lisa and Greg Floyd of Buford; grandchildren, Drew Floyd, Brent Floyd, Rachel French; sister, Jo Ann Hodges of Covington; brother-in-law, Johnny Leachman of Oxford; sister-in-law, Juliette Boss of Oxford; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Service for Mr. Boss will be held Monday, February 29, 2016, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road in Covington, with Pastor Lynn Head officiating and interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park.

Betty Clinton obit

Betty Knight Clinton of Conyers, passed away February 25, 2016, at the age of 89. Mrs. Clinton was born November 12, 1926, to proud parents, Aubie and Elizabeth Jane Huff Knight, in Mansfield. They moved to Rutledge when she was just a toddler. She graduated from Rutledge School, in 1944, as Valedictorian of her class. Upon graduation, she moved to Atlanta, where she furthered her education at Southern Business University and graduated in 1945. She was employed with Gifford Realty Company and Al Ewing Realty Company, in Atlanta, before retiring in 1993. Mrs. Clinton met and married the love of her life, Daniel (Dan) W. Clinton, in 1948. They enjoyed 57 years together before Dan passed away in October 2005. She was a member of North Rockdale Baptist Church, and she loved attending until her health forced her to stay home. Mrs. Clinton loved flowers and enjoyed watching birds from her kitchen window. She cherished her redbird sanctuary that her son, Charles, built for her. Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; siblings, Joe Knight, Otha Knight, Louise Barrett, Pres Knight, Jewell Hawkins, Elvin Knight, her twin, Billy Knight and Ray Knight.

 

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Tom Crawford, Beth and Jeff Pruett; son, Charles Daniel Clinton; grandchildren, Cliff Partin, Amy Bodeep, Stacy Bailey, Joshua Lyons, Shelley Clinton; great-grandchildren, Bryson Partin, Cayla Partin, Makyla Partin; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Clinton will be held Sunday, February 28, 2016, 2:30 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road in Covington, with Chaplain Jim Ross officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may join the family for visitation at the funeral home Saturday, February 27, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

Charles Ray Thacker

Charles Ray Thacker of Covington passed away February 24, 2016, at the age of 71. Mr. Thacker owned and operated Thacker Electric Company for 45 years. He was a man of very strong faith and a member of Stewart Community Church. He never missed seeing his son Chuck perform in his high school marching band, or the UGA Red Coat Marching Band. He also enjoyed attending his son, David's football and baseball games. In addition, he attended and supported his granddaughters in their sports activities. He loved to fish and hang out with his fishing buddies. Preceding him in death were his beloved son, Charles Ray (Chuck) Thacker, Jr.; parents, Edgar and Ollie Smith Thacker; brother, Wayne Thacker; sister, Eunice Thacker,

Dorothy H. Dial

Dorothy H. Dial of Covington, passed away February 23, 2016, at the age of 88.  A member of The Baptist Tabernacle for 42 years, Mrs. Dial always put others before herself.  She enjoyed fishing but one of her greatest joys was going to the ballfield to watch her grandchildren play ball.  Mrs. Dial was a wonderful cook and loved preparing meals for her family.  She will be greatly missed by family and friends who loved her.  Preceding her in death were her husband, Astor Dial; parents, Alexander Steven and Rosa Hall; sisters, Alice Hall, Daisy Garner; brothers, Andrew Hall, Billy Hall, Tommy Hall, Omer Hall, J.W. Hall, J.T. Hall, and Marvin Hall. 

 

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles (Ron) and Judy Dial, Greg and Lori Dial, all of Covington; grandchildren, Stacy Shrader, Amanda Dial, Jeremy Dial, Chuck Dial, Tyler Long, Travis Long, Allen Murray, Dalton Smith; 15 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Sadie Strange

Sadie Strange of Covington, passed away February 22, 2016 at the age of 87.  Mrs. Strange loved everyone she met, saw the best in them, and never gave up on them.  She was a Christian woman that people came to for advice.  Mrs. Strange was a fabulous cook and enjoyed working in her garden.  She loved her family and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.  Mrs. Strange was preceded in death by her sons, Tony Strange, Dana Strange, parents, John Albert and Rosa Mae Funderburk; sister, Hazel Nix; and brothers, R.L. Bruna V. Dobbs of Covington passed away February 20, 2016, at the age of 91. Mrs. Dobbs was always elegantly and colorfully dressed. She cherished her family, and she was an animal lover. A loving, kind and sensitive lady, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Leopoldo and Mila Ugheti.

Sara Harris Obit

Sara Louise Cochran Harris of Covington passed away February 19, 2016, at the age of 79. Mrs. Harris dearly loved her family and cherished the time spent with them, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She liked hummingbirds, and she enjoyed flower gardening. Preceding her in death was her husband, Vinson Crosby; parents, Marion and Marie Cochran; grandchildren, Missy, Mika, Jathem; and son-in-law, JP Parker.

Doris Beachel Obit

 

Doris Roberts Beachel of Acworth passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the age of 76. Mrs. Beachel dearly loved her family and cherished the time spent with them, including her beloved granddogs. A lady of strong faith, with a wealth of wisdom for giving advice. Mrs. Beachel enjoyed watercolor painting and watching game shows. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, David Carey Beachel; parents, Thomas Benjamin and Ina Kate Roberts; and brother, Sonny Roberts.

 

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Ronda and Don Edwards of Covington, Thomas Lee Overstreet of Holly Springs, Chrissy Overstreet Miller of Acworth, David Carey Beachel, II of Rock Hill, SC; granddaughters, Tara Zoellick, Tori Zoellick, Ivy Miller, Holly Miller; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Ed Ward of Mableton; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Janice Roberts of Ball Ground; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Private Service will held for Mrs. Beachel at a later date. 

Rufus Roberts

Rufus Roberts of Oxford passed away February 17, 2016, at the age of 83. Mr. Roberts was of the Baptist faith. He loved going fishing, vegetable gardening and camping in the mountains. In addition, he enjoyed football and stock car racing. Mr. Roberts never had biological children of his own, but was a father and grandfather to many. He was preceded in death by two wives, Edna Dalton Roberts, and Pat Moody; parents, Jessie McCord and Lucy Gary Roberts; sister, Inez Johnson; brother, Grady Roberts.

 

Survivors include brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Paula Roberts, Jerry and Janie Roberts all of Covington; sister-in-law, Roberta Roberts of Glenshaw, PA; as well as several nieces and nephews; special friend, Jane McCart.  

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Roberts will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road in Covington, with Rev. Jerry Roberts and Rev. J.B. Leachman officiating and interment following in Sardis Cemetery. Friends are welcome to join the family at the funeral home for visitation Friday, February 19, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. Jane Hubbard of Covington, passed away February 15, 2016, at the age of 78. Mrs. Hubbard worked for Winn-Dixie for 15 years. She enjoyed reading and cherished the visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hubbard was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Hubbard; parents, Benjamin and Ethel (Ragsdale) Ward; and her sister, Irene Roden.

 

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Cindy and Daniel Chavez of McDonough, Bonnie Fambrough of Covington; sons, John Veal of Covington, Richard Hubbard of Macon, Kevin Hubbard of Daytona Beach, FL; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Rosemary Ward of Smyrna; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Lemuel T. Anderson

Lemuel T. Anderson of Covington, passed away February 15, 2016, at the age of 84.  After retiring from AT&T, Mr. Anderson started building houses and then became a Charismatic Episcopal Priest at St. Andrews.  He will be remembered as a man who loved his family dearly.  Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by Carolyn Evans Anderson, his wife of 64 years; and his parents, Willett Davis and Louise (Little) Anderson.

 

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Greg Lancaster of Covington; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Anita Anderson of Social Circle; grandchildren, Josh Anderson, Kaitie and Rob Clark, all of Decatur, Nick Anderson of Social Circle; and sister, Betty Jane Lee of Knoxville, TN.

Obit - Naomi Estelle Brock

Naomi Estelle Brock of Covington, passed away February 15, 2016, at the age of 75. Mrs. Brock was employed by Belk and Sears for ten years. She enjoyed sewing and was a wonderful seamstress. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Mrs. Brock was preceded in death by her son, Jason Brock; and her parents, James Lewis and Winifred (Merritt) Smith.

 

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, L.D. Brock; sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Bill Drake; brother and sister-in-law, James D. (Buck) and Patsy Smith, all of Covington; two nieces and one nephew.

Michael Smith Obit

Michael Smith of Covington, passed away February 14, 2016, at the age of 49.  Michael enjoyed playing golf and traveling, especially to Vegas.  He kept people upbeat with the smile he always had on his face.  A hard-working and dedicated man, Michael attended Crosspoint Christian Church.  He loved the Lord and desired to please Him.  Michael loved his family deeply and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Eula Harmon

Eula Harmon of Covington passed away February 13, 2016, at the age of 89. Mrs. Harmon retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Covington and the Gleaners Sunday School Class. Mrs. Harmon was a Newton Medical Center Auxiliary volunteer for 20 years, and she enjoyed volunteering at the Cinderella Shop. She loved being around people, playing bridge, and she cherished the time spent with family. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Harmon; as well as her parents, two sisters and four brothers.

 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Mike Forester of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Matthew and Kelly Forester, Michael Forester, Daniel Forester, Elizabeth and Jon Mark Campbell, Rebekah Forester, Anna Forester; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Hudson Campbell, Katherine and Caroline Forester all of Birmingham, AL; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and John Hughes; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Alida Reid; several nieces and nephews.

Bonnie Gunnells

Bonnie Gunnells of Covington passed away February 14, 2016, at the age of 82. Mrs. Gunnells was a member of Stewart Baptist Church, and she retired from Mobil Chemical Company after 25 years of service. She enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, walking and traveling to the mountains. Mrs. Gunnells cherished the time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Gunnells; parents, Willie Paul and Bertha Roberts; sister, Margaret Shannon; brother, W.L. Roberts.

 

Survivors include her children, Bobby Gunnells, Elizabeth Boggs, Bertha Ann Godfrey; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Ethelene Roberts; several nieces and nephews.

John Tarbush

John "Johnny" Tarbush of Loganville passed away February 10, 2016, at the age of 72. Mr. Tarbush was a proud Veteran of the Air Force. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. Mr. Tarbush enjoyed cooking and surfing the web. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Ruby Mae Tarbush; two sisters and his brother.

Mrs. Jack "Lee" Walden of Covington passed away February 12, 2016, at the age of 85. Mrs. Walden loved to sing and play the organ. Additionally, she enjoyed reading, her flowers, gardening and her pets. A talented seamstress, she often made her own clothing. Mrs. Walden was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. She was a reserved person with a very sharp wit. Mrs. Walden was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a wonderful homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew "Jack" Walden; parents, Warren and Pearl Harden; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Luther Pitts Duncan, W.H. and Mildred Walden, Roy Walden, Gene Walden, Silas and Mary Lou Dimsdale.

Larry Rowe

Larry Curtis Rowe of Mansfield, passed away February 9, 2016, at the age of 59. Larry was a dedicated employee of Standridge Color Corporation for 32 years. He was a member of the North Georgia Mopar Club, was a show car enthusiast and enjoyed drag racing. Additionally, he was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, camping and going on various road trips. Larry was a loving husband and father, and he devoted much of his time to his grandchildren whom he adored. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alisha Rowe Bellemy; and his parents, Curtis and Beatrice (Ellenton) Rowe.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Theresa Rowe; sons, Robbie Rowe, Jimbo Rowe, all of Mansfield; grandchildren, Lexi Rowe, Austin Wilson, Morgan Rowe, Peighton Rowe, Carly Rowe, Brodie Rowe, Maleyah Rowe; sister, Cookie Deloris Vincent; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as several special friends.

Ann Bolton

Ann M. Bolton of Loganville passed away February 9, 2016, at the age of 80. In previous years, she transported those elderly and disabled to their appointments all over the state of Georgia. Mrs. Bolton moved in 2005 from her home town of Sylvania to Loganville to be with her son and family. She enjoyed playing cards, loved flowers and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. She and her late husband, Raymond, loved to travel. Mrs. Bolton was preceded in death by her husband; as well as her daughter-in-law, Charlotte Stanton.

 

Survivors include her son, Jerry Stanton of Loganville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

William "Buddy" Roden

William "Buddy" Roden of Loganville, passed away February 9, 2016, at the age of 87.  Mr. Roden worked as a painter alongside his brothers and son for more than 40 years.  He loved sports, especially football and NASCAR.  Mr. Roden enjoyed gardening and carpentry.  He was preceded in death by his sons, Larry Roden, Steve Roden; parents, Forrest Edgar and Sadie May (White) Roden; sisters, Goldie Evans, Marie Travis; brothers, Bill Roden, Robert Roden and Forrest Roden.

 

Survivors include grandchildren, Julie and Michael Ramey of Loganville, Jeremy Roden of Oxford; great-grandchildren, Patrick Ramey, Joshua Ramey, Jacob Roden, Allie Roden; daughter-in-law, Cherie Mitchell of Loganville; special friend, Jean Roden; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dessie McGilton of Oxford, passed away February 8, 2016, at the age of 80. Dessie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family dearly and was the "glue" that held the family together. Dessie was a selfless, caring woman who was always willing to help anyone in need. Melanie Page Lowe, age 52, of Oxford, passed away February 7, 2016.  Melanie, also affectionately known as "Nana", cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Obit - Carolyn Harper

Carolyn Harper of Covington, passed away February 7, 2016, at the age of 83.  Mrs. Harper was born in Thomasville, GA, to the late William Allen and Mamie Belle (Banks) McDaniel. She enjoyed working with her roses and will be remembered for her tasty cornbread and fried chicken.  She liked to read and keep up with current events.  Mrs. Harper loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Harper; and their son, Ricky Harper.

 

Mrs. Harper is survived by her daughter, Jill Harper of Covington; sons and daughter-in-law, Scott and Marianne Harper of Hiram, Tracy Harper of Atlanta; grandchildren, Megan Harper, Sarah George, Christopher Harper, Andrew Harper; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Tommie Jean Cooper of Cairo.

Donnetta "Donna" Karp

Donnetta "Donna" Karp of Covington, passed away February 7, 2016, at the age of 77.  Mrs. Karp retired from Fontana Unified School District in Fontana, CA, where she had worked as a teacher's aide for many years prior to moving to Covington, GA in 2001.  She enjoyed reading and playing Keno, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.  Mrs. Karp was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Joseph Karp, Jr; son, Jeffery Karp; grandson, Clayton Karp.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Silverthorn of Fontana, CA; sons and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Jackie Karp, Steve Karp, Michael Karp, all of Covington; grandchildren, Courtney, Ralaina, Ryan, Christian, Zachary, Savannah, Katie, Steven; three great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Regis and  Eileen Schreffler of Mangrove Bay, FL; two nephews; and life-long friends, Bob and Dolores Colbrunn of Mt. Shirley S. Cody

Shirley S. Cody of Conyers passed away February 3, 2016, at the age of 84. She was born in Newton County, August 2, 1931, to the late Ed and Clara Belle Stokes. Mrs. Cody was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. In addition, she was a member of LAVFW 5290 of Conyers, GA, and she volunteered for 7 years at Rockdale Medical Center. Mrs. Cody retired from C.R. Bard after 23 years of service.  She delighted in visiting the elderly members of her church and doing yard work. Preceding her in death were her husbands, Harold Cody, and David (Bill) Lunsford; sons, Andrew Barry Cody and Michael Harold Cody; grandson, Michael Thomas Ballard.

 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Viki and Scot Brisendine of Conyers, GA, Darlene and Dave Henderson of Mansfield, GA; granddaughter, Kristi Stoddard of Conyers, GA; grandson, Dwayne Henderson of Stockbridge, GA ; sister, Joyce Bourne of Conyers, GA; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Barbara M. Mason

Brenda M. Mason, age 74, of Covington, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents, Harry "Mac" and Lillie Belle McDaniel. Survivors include her husband, Neil M. Mason; daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Tommy Thomas of Covington; son and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Rhonda Mason of Roswell; four grandchildren, Hannah and Hunter Thomas, Taylor and Tanner Mason; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bobby Ward of Bogart; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Brenda was a dedicated employee of Snapping Shoals EMC for 37 years and served on the board of directors for 15 years. She enjoyed reading and traveling, which included her love for visiting casinos. Additionally, she cherished the closeness and time she shared with family. She was an active participant with several civic organizations in Newton County.

Kathleen Ann Holmes Collins of Loganville, passed away February 1, 2016, at the age of 66.  Daughter of Rosemary Hargrove of Oxford, GA, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Collins of Colorado; her father, Victor Allen Holmes; and step-father, Art Hargrove, Jr. of Covington.  A native of Colorado Springs, CO, Mrs. Collins is survived by her brothers and their wives, Victor and Glynda Holmes of Loganville, GA, Tom and Lynda Holmes of Oxford; step-brothers and their wives, Art and Myra Hargrove, Doug and Judy Hargrove; step-sister and her husband, Dr. Arlene and Charles Woods, of Covington; nephews and their wives, Shawn and Vickie Holmes, Allen and Brenda Holmes, David and Danielle Holmes, Victor Aaron and Sara Holmes; niece and her husband, Amy and Joshua Chamberlain; step-nephews, Craig, Matthew, Chad, Jared, Arthur Hargrove; aunt, Lorena Bymaster of Colorado Springs, CO; uncles and their wives, Joe and Bette Vaeth, David and Anna Mae Vaeth, all of Colorado; as well as great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.  Mrs. Collins worked as an executive secretary at Georgia Pacific and Coca Cola during her lifetime.  She will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, and friend.

Helen King of Porterdale passed away February 1, 2016, at the age of 94.  Mrs. King was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing southern food for her family.   She loved the Lord and gospel music.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther (Boots) King; son, Billy King, and parents, Cleveland and Nora Barnes.

Kathleen Ann Holmes Collins of Loganville, passed away February 1, 2016, at the age of 66.  Daughter of Rosemary Hargrove of Oxford, GA, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Collins of Colorado; her father, Victor Allen Holmes; and step-father, Art Hargrove, Jr. of Covington.  A native of Colorado Springs, CO, Mrs. Collins is survived by her brothers and their wives, Victor and Glynda Holmes of Loganville, GA, Tom and Lynda Holmes of Oxford; step-brothers and their wives, Art and Myra Hargrove, Doug and Judy Hargrove; step-sister and her husband, Dr. Arlene and Charles Woods, of Covington; nephews and their wives, Shawn and Vickie Holmes, Allen and Brenda Holmes, David and Danielle Holmes, Victor Aaron and Sara Holmes; niece and her husband, Amy and Joshua Chamberlain; step-nephews, Craig, Matthew, Chad, Jared, Arthur Hargrove; aunt, Lorena Bymaster of Colorado Springs, CO; uncles and their wives, Joe and Bette Vaeth, David and Anna Mae Vaeth, all of Colorado; as well as great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.  Mrs. Collins worked as an executive secretary at Georgia Pacific and Coca Cola during her lifetime.  She will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, and friend.

 

A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Collins will be held Thursday, February 4, 2016, 11:00 AM, at St. Anna's Catholic Church, 1401 Alcovy Street, Monroe, GA, with Father Dan Toof officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington.  Friends may join the family for visitation Wednesday, February 3, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Anna's Catholic Church.

Shirley Groover

Shirley Groover of Rex, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at the age of 81.  Mrs. Groover loved playing computer games, reading romance novels, and shopping at the Wal-Mart in Stockbridge.  She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.  Most of all, Mrs. Groover cherished the time she spent with her four grandchildren who brought her much joy.  She was preceded in death by her husband, W. A. Groover, Jr; parents, Thomas and Lula Mae "Missy" McMillan; half-sister, Lorene Pelae; and half-brother, Robert McMillan.

 

Survivors include her children, Mike Groover and his wife, Andrea Jo of Rex, Susan Hudspeth and her fiancé, Bryan Hegwood of Covington; grandchildren, Michelle Groover, Andrew Groover, Sarah Mathis, Steven Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Carson Mathis, Adleigh Mathis; and niece, Pat Brannon.

 

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Groover will held Wednesday, February 3, 2016, 3:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington with Rev. Dr. William B. Wade, Jr. officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park.  Friends may join the family for visitation Tuesday, February 2, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
