EDITED obit for Mr. Davidson
James Curtis Davidson (J C), age 90, of Covington, passed away peacefully at his home, on March 29, 2018, after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. Born in Keener, AR, on May 1, 1927, he was the only child of the late James Lloyd Davidson and Faye Hester Davidson. After graduating from Bergman High School in Arkansas, J C joined the Navy in 1945 and proudly served his country during WWII. He then went on to pursue his college education at Arkansas Polytechnic College where he earned a B.S. degree in Science and Mathematics. J C started his long career, 32 years, with Exxon Co., USA, via Carter Oil and Humble Oil, that took him around the globe as a professional Geophysicist. He rose through the ranks to be promoted to the top of the company as Geophysical Supervisor in Exxon's Southwestern Exploration in Midland, Tx. There he met his wife of 43 years, Gail Wynn Davidson. J C was a lifelong and faithful servant of his God. He loved, treasured, and honored God, family, and friends. His faith centered in the Church of Christ. With great passion, J C delved into genealogy, and historic preservation and research, for the restoration of his home. His intelligent, critical mind brought into his home computers, smart phones, WIFI, and anything he found to keep up with the world. J C's compassion and love for people, along with his unrelenting love of clever fun, brought a constant flow of loving friends who treasured his Christian and fun-loving personality. He was loved by all. J C was a true Southern gentleman and a loving husband and friend.
Survivors include his loving wife, Gail Wynn Davidson; an uncle and aunt, Hoyt and Laura Davidson of Harrison, AR; as well as many special cousins who adored and loved him, and that he loved and adored.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Davidson will be held Sunday, April 1, 2018, 3:00 PM, at Conyers Church of Christ, 1410 Flat Shoals Road, SE, in Conyers, with Bobby Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, West Main Street, Lakeland, GA, on Monday, April 2nd, 1:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, in Covington, Saturday, March 31st, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Obit - Johnny Ray Lester
Johnny Ray Lester, of Covington, passed away March 28, 2018, at the age of 68. "Big Daddy", as he was affectionately known by many, was an adoring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a devoted family man, his grandkids' biggest supporter and loved his four-legged babies as much as anyone else. He enjoyed coaching baseball and was a endless source of encouragement to all. Mr. Lester, Retired Command Sergeant Major, loved his country and proudly dedicated 30 years of service to the United States Army. Additionally, he served as Grand Knight, in 1985, with Knights of Columbus Council # 6352 – a Catholic fraternal organization devoted to helping others in need. Mr. Lester, a selfless man who would give his all for anyone, will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Ray Lester; granddaughter, Presley Griffis; brother, Morris Lester; and both his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Linda "Mourie" Lester; daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Joshua Waites, Tiffany Leigh Landry, Lindsay and David Gardner; grandchildren, Trent and Lexi Hornsby, Rayven Hess, Dawson Minshew, Savannah Gardner, Karli Waites, Elijah Griffis, Addisyn Gardner, Gracie Griffis, Kenleigh Griffis, Ketren Waites; and great-granddaughter, Denver Hornsby.
Funeral Services for Mr. Lester will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018, 3:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Philip Lehman officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with Mr. Lester's family, at the funeral home, Monday, April 2, from 5:00 – 8: 00 PM. Archie Eugene "Gene" Turner of Conyers, passed away March 28, 2018, at 76 years of age. A genuine family man, Gene enjoyed get-togethers with loved ones. Whether fishing or working in the yard, he relaxed by spending time outdoors. Gene's favorite pastime though was unearthing hidden treasures while "junking" with his wife, Brenda, whom he affectionately referred to as "Precious". Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Lee and Juanita (Davis) Turner; sister, Joyce Woodall; brother, Wayne Turner; step-daughter, Rhonda Sue Davis; as well as his Fur-Baby, Cotton.

Edward A.G. Snider, Jr.
Edward A.G. Snider, Jr., of Covington, passed away March 25, 2018, at 63 years of age. A native of Atlanta, Mr. Snider moved to Newton County in 1984. He worked for Universal Steel in Lithonia for more than 30 years. Mr. Snider enjoyed spending his spare time fishing, hunting, and following all Atlanta sport teams. He was a member of Pentecostals of McDonough, and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Snider was preceded in death by his parents, Edward A.G., Sr., and Virginia Louise (Pridmore) Snider; and Sister Merita Chapman.
Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara Snider; daughter, Ruby Tollisen; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward A.G., III, and Christie Snider, Bo Willie and Amanda Snider; grandchildren, Jonathon, Kattie, Kaila, Kailey, Kalyn, Gracie; sister and brother-in-law, Shiela and Lester Hickman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Vera Kucheryavvy of Conyers, passed away March 25, 2018, at 93 years of age. Born in Chernovtzy, Ukraine, Mrs. Kucheryavvy immigrated to the United States in 1991. She was a member of Living Water Christian Church in Snellville, and will be remembered as a devout Christian, who spread her wisdom with others through her advice and acts of kindness. Mrs. Kucheryavvy will be missed by family, friends, and neighbors, who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Kucheryavvy; son, Vasilly Kucheryavvy; granddaughter, Larisa Dzyuba; parents, Ivan and Polidia (Rabba) Pigivskya; and sister, Maria Bazelyak.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Nadezhda and George Gazhenko, Tamara and George Rusu, Nina Kucheryavvy, Peter and Maria Kucheryavvy, Helen and Michael Lasiy; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchidren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; nephew, Michael Pigisvskya.

Charlene Haralson of Commerce, passed away March 24, 2018, at the age of 77. Mrs. Haralson's willingness to do for others was a testimony to her kind and compassionate nature. Arthur "Donnie" Hopkins of Covington, passed away March 22, 2018, at 79 years of age. Mr. Hopkins was a good Christian man and dedicated member of Sims Chapel Baptist Church. He retired from IBM as Operations Manager after 30 plus years of service. Mr. Hopkins had a fun-loving spirit which came to life every time he listened to "Doo-Wop" music or engaged with friends and family playing board games. Most notably, he loved to play Pictionary with his great-granddaughter, Destiny. Mr. Hopkins, who was gifted with an abundance of charisma, will also be remembered for being articulate, intuitive, and methodical. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Hopkins; son, Arthur Elliot Hopkins; as well as parents, Arthur H. and Gladys (Jones) Hopkins.

Hazel Wills of Conyers, passed away March 23, 2018, at the age of 91. Mrs. Wills was an active and supportive member of Center Hill Baptist Church in Loganville. Not one to shy away from a challenge, she even volunteered as a helper during Vacation Bible School. Youthful and vivacious, she took pleasure in the little things and greeted everyone with a smile. Mrs. Wills was loving and generous - always putting the needs of others first - and was known to her loved ones as an exceptional mother and grandmother. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Wills was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Clinton "Clint" Wills; as well as her parents, Tom Jeff and Bonnie Bell (Vining) Kelly.

Sharon Young Womack of Newborn, passed away March 22, 2018, at the age of 79. Mrs. Womack was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Covington. After 15 years with Sweetheart Plastics, she went to work for Ronther Plastics and eventually retired after 25 years of service. Friendly and personable, Mrs. Womack was a natural at selling Avon Cosmetics, which she did for 20 years. In addition to being outdoors, working in her garden, she took pride in cooking delicious meals for her family. To those who knew her, Mrs. Womack will be remembered as a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Womack; sons, Robert Womack, Michael Womack; as well as her parents, Abram Owen and Lois (Haight) Young.

Justin Scott Forester of Covington, passed away March 18, 2018, at 31 years of age. Known as free-spirited and social, Justin enjoyed hanging out with family and friends. Gatherings would include cooking, watching movies, or listening to music. Justin followed many different sports, but he especially liked football. His favorite teams were the Atlanta Falcons and the Georgia Bulldogs. Justin will be remembered as a loving soul and a genuine friend. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Rebecca "Becky" Wilkins of Covington, passed away March 20, 2018, at the age of 50. Becky's life centered around family. She adored her children and grandchildren and shared a special bond with her sisters - to whom she was deeply connected. Full of love and compassion, Becky was known for her capacity to care for others. Whether fishing or cruising on the pontoon boat, she loved the lake life. Becky also liked going to the casino, listening to old-style country music, and hanging out with her fur babies, Nacho, Taco, Lizzie, and Precious. She was preceded in death by her parents, Odis and Joyce Wilkins; and sister, Rhonda Walden.
Survivors include her boyfriend, Ruben Tant; daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Steven Fuller, Catherine Byrd; son, Chris Byrd, all of Covington; grandchildren, Justin Byrd, Ashlyn Byrd; sister and brother-in-law, Renee and Greg Gray of Covington; brother, Ronnie Wilkins of South Carolina; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Donna Kitchens Knight, of Covington, passed away March 19, 2018, at the age of 62. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Donna cherished her family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with her adoring grandsons. She was a social butterfly, having never met a stranger, and will be remembered, always, for her sweet disposition and selfless temperament. Donna constantly put others ahead of herself and would give everything she could for those she loved. She was preceded in death by her father, Don Kitchens.

Ralph A. Murphy
Ralph A. Murphy, age 94, passed away March 17, 2018. Ralph was a native Atlantan. He was President of Murphy Jr. High School and Vice-President of Boys High School. He was a Violin Concert Master with "In and About" for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra during his high school years. After graduating, Ralph furthered his education at Emory University in Atlanta, where he obtained both an Associate's and a Master's degree in Business Education. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. During WWII, he served as a First-Class Pharmacist Mate in San Diego, CA, at the U.S. Naval Hospital. Ralph was Administrator of the X-Ray Department and was sent as Engineer to the Pacific on Okinawa (from San Diego) to install x-ray machines in preparation for the Japanese Invasion. He was called back by the Navy X-Ray Department, in Memphis, for the Korean War. After dutifully serving his country, Ralph started his civilian career as a teacher for the Atlanta Public School Department, where he met "Miss Cade", in 1953, at Fulton High School during a faculty meeting. He also taught at Murphy High School and Hoke Smith High School. Ralph was married in June 1954 to "Miss Cade" in Jackson, MS. He was a member of the Oxford Board of Councilors, President and State Lt. Governor of Georgia for the Atlanta Optimist Club, and also served as President of the Covington Kiwanis Club and Kiwanis State Lt. Governor. Ralph was Vice-President of Preferred Risk Mutual Insurance Company and was employed with them for 34 years. He loved his church and served as a Sunday School teacher for teenage boys, a couple's class, and was also Chairman of Board of Deacons Finance Committee at Briarcliff Baptist Church, in Atlanta. The Murphys moved to Covington 31 years ago, and joined First Baptist Church, where Ralph taught a couple's class known as "Murphy's Gang" – aptly named after Mr. Murphy. He served as a deacon and was also Chairman of the Board of Deacons, as well as different committees. Additionally, Ralph was a member and Master Mason of the Oglethorpe Masonic Lodge, receiving a 50-year pin.
He was the son of Carl A. Murphy and Miranda Griffin Murphy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Geraldine (Gerri) Cade Murphy; two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Donald (Randi) Schmitt of Milton, and Charlotte Murphy of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Christopher Schmitt of Beaumont, TX, Mr. and Mrs. Adam (Stacey) Little of Inverness, FL; nephews, Judge Stanley Birch and Saye Sutton of Atlanta, Sutton Birch of New York, Harvey Murphy of Springfield, VA; and niece, Jan Murphy of Atlanta.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Murphy will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2018, 11 AM, at First Baptist Church, 1139 Usher Street, NE, Covington, with Dr. Cody McNutt and Rev. David Poe officiating. Following graduation, he attended Georgia Perimeter College and Kennesaw State University. Kyle was a dedicated employee of Publix Distribution Center, in Jacksonville. He enjoyed playing and watching soccer, loved traveling to the beach, was an avid Clemson Tigers fan and talented musician – having taught himself how to play the guitar. Kyle was a selfless, fun-loving friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and adored him.
Survivors include his parents, Scott and Barbara Robinson; brother, Andrew Robinson; maternal grandparents, Gordon and Ann McCullough; paternal grandparents, Mike and JoAnne Robinson; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends whom he loved dearly.
A Memorial Service for Kyle will be held Thursday, March 15, 2018, 3:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Phil Tucker
Phil Tucker of Oxford, passed away March 12, 2018, at 72 years of age. Phil was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War, in Korea and Munich, Germany as a Medic/Corpsman. His army training led to his calling to be a nurse. He was always known to be an excellent, compassionate nurse. Phil will be remembered as a non-traditional person who possessed a great sense of humor. He was a member of the American Legion in Loganville. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Iza (Smith) Tucker; sisters, Betty Fuller, Myrna Jewell; brothers, Joe Tucker, Jack Tucker, Bill Tucker.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Ginger Tucker of Oxford; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Nicholas Peters; son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Krista Tucker; grandchildren, Brandon, David, and Katelyn; sisters and brother-in-law, Barbara and Albin Clayton, Alice Johnson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cloyd Tucker, Keith and Jeannie Tucker, Gary and Kathy Tucker; mother-in-law, Retha Bone; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry L. Dale
Larry L. Dale of Conyers, passed away March 11, 2018, at 70 years of age. In addition to being an avid UGA football fan, Mr. Dale enjoyed gardening, golf, baseball, watching sports programs on TV, and listening to his "Moldie Oldies" music. He loved his family, but especially treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. Mr. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Lillie Mae (Sullens) Dale; and sister, Sue Lane.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Sheri and Chad Bell, Desiree and Rafael Lopez, Ashley and Alex Black; sons and daughter-in-law, Steve Dale, Terry and Selina Hall; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Cecil Dale, Johnny Dale.

Sara Head Cooper
Sara Head Cooper of Covington, passed away March 11, 2018, at 79 years of age. A native of Madison, where she graduated from Morgan County High School, she furthered her education at Marsh Business College, in Atlanta. She moved to Covington in 1965, and was a very active member of First Baptist Church. In addition to working as a Bus Monitor for Newton County Schools for 10 years, Ms. Cooper worked in bookkeeping for several businesses in Covington. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling – having visited all 50 states. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Pierce and Roberta (Jones) Head.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Andy Benz of Peachtree City; sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Angela Cooper of Covington, Allen Cooper of Decatur; grandchildren, Daniel Cooper, Alex and Madison Cooper, Lexi Benz, Zac Benz.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Cooper will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2018, 10:00 AM, at First Baptist Church, 1139 Usher Street, NE, Covington, with Dr. Cody McNutt officiating. Interment will follow in Madison City Cemetery, 420 West Central Ave., Madison, GA. obit for Stella Morse
Stella Margaret Morse, age 90, of Covington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 10, 2018, in Monroe, Georgia.
She was born in Hainesport, New Jersey, to Stanley and Amelia Symczyk and was the youngest of seven children. In 1946, she married Aubrey Eldridge (deceased in 1993) and moved to Wrightstown, New Jersey. She later married Thomas Zalewski (deceased in 1985) and Walter Morse (deceased in 2008). She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She enjoyed shopping, decorating, planting flowers, and being with her family. She also enjoyed spending time at the New Jersey shore. She moved to Georgia in 2012 to be near her daughter.
Preceding her in death are her four sisters, Sophie Scepansky, Tillie Lovenduski, Josephine Henrich, and Mary Jones; two brothers, Tony Symczyk and Joe Symczyk; and two grandsons, David Eldridge and James Williams. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen (Eldridge) and Jim Williams of Oxford, Georgia; her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Joan Eldridge of Wrightstown, New Jersey; her three granddaughters, Jennifer Williams Herrig, Tricia Williams Martin, and Aimee Eldridge; her three great-grandchildren, Reese Martin, Grant Martin, and Carter Herrig; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are being provided by Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home of Covington, Georgia, and Perinchief Chapels of Mount Holly, New Jersey. There will be a graveside service at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hainesport, New Jersey, on Friday, March 16, 2018. Time will be announced.

A true outdoorsman, Don was happiest being out in nature, whether hunting with his father and son, camping, or just observing wildlife. He was down-to-earth and relished simplicity. Mary Ann Sears of Covington, passed away March 8, 2018, at 62 years of age. Mary Ann was a dedicated member of Porterdale Presbyterian Church. She had a caring and loving disposition that was evident to all who knew her. Although she was an excellent cook, eating out was her way of spending time with and staying connected to her grandchildren. Mary Ann's idea of relaxing was to either indulge her artistic side by coloring, or to watch her favorite cooking shows. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lanier and Alice (Daniel) Woodruff.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 43 years, Garry Sears; daughter and son-in-law, Staci and Bryan Satterfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Kirk Sears, Brad and Tonya Sears, Lee and Brenda Sears; grandchildren, Jake, Kaleb, Khristian, Win, Jada, Hollie, Hannah, Simon Luke; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gail and Lanier Simmons, Dora and Butch Blackwell; brothers and sister-in-law, Harrison and Diane Woodruff, Brian Woodruff; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Obit - Rebecca "Becky" Blankenship
Rebecca "Becky" Blankenship of Social Circle, passed away March 6, 2018, at the age of 79. Mrs. Blankenship, born in Chattanooga, lived in Illinois before moving to Georgia in 1985. She retired from Denon Digital Industries in Madison. Mrs. Blankenship was a faithful and supportive member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, and former member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed gardening, loved her family and took care of people she cherished until the end of their life. Her selfless spirit was adored by many, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Blankenship was preceded in death by her husband, William "Big Bill" Blankenship; grandson, Edwin Valenti; parents, Carl Stanfield and Margaret Foote; and her step-daughter, Talana Blankenship.
Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Ann Valenti of Social Circle; step-sons, David and Sara Blankenship, Randy and Monica Blankenship; step-daughters, Penny and Jim Bendorf, Kim Seargo; grandchildren, Lee Anne Marie Tant, Amy Lynn Citroni; 5 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Lee.

Chris' other hobbies included trips to Six Flags, camping with family, playing Xbox, being on his phone, and spending time with his brothers and sister.
