Robert Alan Shepherd

Robert Alan Shepherd of Newborn, passed away July 20, 2018, at the age of 59. Alan lost his courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones, at his beloved family farm. He was a loving family man, and devoted husband, whose kind and compassionate spirit was evident to all who knew him. Although Alan was dedicated to his work and providing for his family, he carved out time for his favorite hobbies. A water sports enthusiast and competitive slalom skier, Alan was in his element whenever boating, skiing or swimming. He was also an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Falcons. Alan enjoyed traveling - especially to Amelia Island, Daytona Beach and the mountains. He loved animals and spending time on the farm. Whether watching the Braves with his mom or taking car rides with his dad, Alan relished the time spent with family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Mattie Shepherd; grandparents, Jim and Estelle Shepherd, Walker and Mattie Malone; mother-in-law, Corine Walker.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Sandra Shepherd; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vickie and Grady Bryans, Kathy and Wesley Johnson; nieces and spouses, Ashley Hammonds, Chrissy and Kyle Hall, Merideth Bryans, Melody and Justin Morgan; nephews and spouses, Brian and Amie Bryans, Michael and Sandi Johnson; numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; brothers-in-law, Joe Walker and his wife, Brenda, Roy Walker and his wife, Kittie, Bill Walker, Nathan Walker and his wife, Sandra; sister-in-law, Karen Baughtman and her husband, Scott.

 

A Funeral Service for Alan will be held Monday, July 23, 2018, 11:00 A.M., at Pennington United Methodist Church, 1160 Broughton Road, in Newborn, with Pastor Gary Whatley officiating. Interment will follow in Pennington United Methodist Church Cemetery in Newborn. Friends may visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, Sunday, July 22, 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University – Development Office, 1762 Clifton Road, Suite 1400, Atlanta, Ga 30322; or the Morgan County Humane Society, 1170 Fairground Road, Madison, Ga 30650. Additionally, donations may be made to Taylor Rose Layne, at any BB&T location, in her fight against Biliary Atresia (liver disease).
